Transcript
00:00Good evening and welcome to the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live.
00:05Welcome to WatchMojo, and in this installment of Must Watch, we're looking at movies, shows,
00:10podcasts, and more that defined pop culture in February 2025.
00:16You look incredible.
00:18You look incredible.
00:21Number 10, Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3.
00:24We were admittedly frustrated when Netflix decided to release the final season of Cobra Kai
00:29in three parts, spreading 15 episodes out over several months.
00:33My kids are really struggling with this tournament being ripped away.
00:36It's so close to the end.
00:37I know, but we need to move on. There's no other choice.
00:40This worked out surprisingly well, though, as each batch of episodes felt distinct.
00:44Act 1 was the calm before the storm. Act 2 was the storm.
00:48These final five episodes are a comeback story.
00:51I loved you, Matt.
00:55I idolized you.
00:59Every good thing about myself, strength, confidence, karate, you taught me.
01:05Which seems appropriate for this franchise.
01:08The showrunners felt the pressure of not only having to resolve six seasons
01:11of character development, but living up to a legacy stretching back 40 years.
01:16You wanted me to be your sensei, right?
01:18Well, a sensei knows when his student is off.
01:22So does a friend.
01:23With emotionally driven fight scenes and satisfying arcs for every major character,
01:27the ending delivered everything a fan could want other than a Jackie Chan cameo.
01:32Your time will come, Karate Kid Legends.
01:34You knew Mr. Miyagi?
01:36I did not come looking for Sensei Miyagi.
01:39I came looking for you.
01:45You might recognize Carmen Christopher from shows like The Bear and English Teacher.
01:48This comic may be on the verge of a significant breakthrough with his stand-up special,
01:53which is available on YouTube.
01:55What's up, Chicago?
02:05Do you guys think there's anything more cringe than trying to have a successful career?
02:09Christopher isn't afraid to make edgy comments, but don't worry,
02:13he comes prepared with multiple handwritten apologies, insisting he's a good guy.
02:17I'm continuing to learn, listen, and read book.
02:22But please don't cancel me because I need a career to feed my ego.
02:26In addition to taking inspiration from his personal life,
02:28Christopher provides sharp commentary on shows like Euphoria and movies like Megan.
02:33Whether he's bringing volunteers on stage to read a script or showcasing his surprising
02:37tongue-clicking talent, you never know where the special will take the audience,
02:40capturing the impulsive nature of the Windy City.
02:47We think Christopher is ready to host SNL.
02:50I should at least be allowed to host once.
02:53Alec Baldwin hosted 18 times and he killed the person.
02:59The release of this Pixar streaming series has sadly been overshadowed by Disney's
03:03controversial choice to erase a transgender storyline.
03:06It's a step backward for Disney, but Pixar has otherwise hit a home run
03:09with the first few episodes.
03:11Calling turning red and inside out to mind,
03:14the baseball-centric series gets inside the characters' heads,
03:17exploring their anxieties with clever visuals.
03:20Can I just copy your answers on the homework?
03:22I cannot fail this class.
03:23While that sounds familiar, Win or Lose distinguishes itself by not just focusing
03:28on the kids, but the adults as well.
03:30Rochelle, your daughter cheated on a test.
03:33She's a good kid.
03:34She's a good kid.
03:35She's a good kid.
03:36She's a good kid.
03:37She's a good kid.
03:38She's a good kid.
03:39She's a good kid.
03:40I'll call you back.
03:47The Rashomon approach also presents the big game from a unique perspective,
03:51although the final score isn't what matters.
03:54As the title suggests, whether you win or lose, it's about how you play.
03:58And this show is definitely a good sport.
04:01Just relax and let the game come to you.
04:03You got it, Dad.
04:04You're trying to go at me now to get the ratings because you know that people will be interested in Maitland.
04:13With the Boy Meets World podcast entering the nostalgic sitcom's sixth season,
04:17Danielle Fischel, Brider Strong and Will Friedle recorded an episode with former co-star Maitland Ward.
04:22It doesn't make any sense, does it?
04:24I think you did a wonderful job and I support you.
04:26Since Ward joined the cast that season as Rachel McGuire, this seemed like a fitting time to bring her on.
04:32Ward had a bone to pick though,
04:33claiming that Fischel refused to speak with her when she dropped by the Girl Meets World set.
04:37Okay, I wouldn't speak to you?
04:39No.
04:39I did talk to you.
04:40No, not really.
04:42Not really.
04:43This wasn't the first time Ward felt snubbed, believing Fischel hated her.
04:46She also brought up the rift between the hosts and star Ben Savage as well as creator Michael Jacobs.
04:52The hosts assured Ward there was no hate,
04:55but this was the most heated we'd seen the cast since that season seven two-parter.
05:00Why haven't you and I spoken in seven years?
05:04Number six, Apple Cider Vinegar.
05:06Did you binge watch The Dropout?
05:08Well, here's another streaming miniseries based on a true story about an ambitious female entrepreneur
05:13who seemed like she might change the health world when in reality,
05:16she was a fraud who fooled everyone before her empire inevitably came crashing down under the weight of deceit.
05:22I mean, I could do like 50 personality quizzes right now and I am an empath.
05:29Every time.
05:30Funny slash unsettling how that's become a subgenre.
05:33The rise and fall of Belle Gibson is at times infuriating yet always fascinating.
05:38It's been a rocky few years being a person in the world.
05:42Netflix's dramatization strikes the ideal tone
05:45with something devious lurking under the rose-colored aesthetic.
05:48Caitlin Deaver also deserves to be in the Emmy conversation for her performance
05:52as a young woman whose lies become second nature to her.
05:55No, I've been really transparent.
05:57Of course, when it's a lie everyone wants to believe, it's easier to swallow.
06:02It's love that powers me.
06:06Transforms me.
06:08Sustains me.
06:09All of us.
06:12If we're brave enough to let it.
06:18Number five, Bridget Jones, mad about the boy.
06:21It's been more than two decades since cinema goers were introduced to Bridget Jones,
06:25marking a turning point in Renee Zellweger's career.
06:28Oi! Oi!
06:32Sorry, the, uh, mic's not working.
06:37We honestly weren't expecting a fourth film after all this time,
06:40although the real surprise is just how good mad about the boy turned out.
06:44Having fun?
06:44Yes, yes, really fun.
06:47Bridget is still Bridget,
06:48but that doesn't mean she's the same 32-year-old we met in 2001.
06:52Now, she's a mother, a widow, and a middle-aged woman ready for her next chapter.
06:57This opens the series to more mature themes,
07:00allowing the protagonist to grow with her audience.
07:02Dearest darling Mark, it's your birthday on Sunday,
07:07and I'm just no good at doing this on my own.
07:13It's not only one of the most well-received entries in this film franchise,
07:16mad about the boy may be an improvement over the 2013 novel that inspired it.
07:21People talk about moving on like it means, you know, leaving something behind,
07:26you know, leaving someone you love behind,
07:28but perhaps it's more that suddenly you see you can live at the same time
07:33as all the things you've lost, and that you can be happy even without them.
07:39Number four, Invincible season three.
07:41Fans definitely felt the passage of time between seasons one and two of the superhero series.
07:46Thankfully, the wait for season three was much shorter,
07:49and Amazon did not break it up into multiple parts.
08:01Best of all, season three has been among the show's best
08:04thanks to Mark's shifting dynamics with those closest to him.
08:07Adam Eve has gone from friend to girlfriend,
08:09while Cecil has progressed from an ally nobody can trust
08:12to an enemy who's always one step ahead.
08:15Mark, I don't want to hurt you.
08:20I'm not the one who's gonna get hurt.
08:22Even more unpredictable than Cecil is Mark's younger brother Oliver,
08:25who will put nature versus nurture to the test.
08:28The physical stakes match the psychological ones,
08:30as Mark continues to confront the hard-hitting reality of being a hero,
08:34which isn't black and white.
08:36Where would I be without you?
08:39Probably still looking for Mount Rushmore.
08:42Sounds about right.
08:44Number three, Heart Eyes.
08:45We're only about two months in,
08:47but we already have a few contenders for 2025's most memorable horror movies.
08:53The Monkey had one of the strongest openings ever for Neon.
08:57Since February was the month of love,
08:58we're carving out a special place for Heart Eyes.
09:01For the past two years, a masked maniac known as the Heart Eyes Killer has stalked,
09:06hunted,
09:07and brutally slain couples on Valentine's Day.
09:10While films have mixed horror and romance before,
09:12Heart Eyes comes the closest to achieving a 50-50 split.
09:16Director Josh Rubin embraces the classic rom-com tropes
09:19with stars Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding making for a lovable pair.
09:27When Heart Eyes wants to be a slasher though,
09:29it puts the bloody in bloody Valentine.
09:31For couples who adore a good horror flick with a satirical edge,
09:34Heart Eyes is a date movie that may become an annual tradition.
09:43The White Lotus Season 3
09:47The scenery has changed again,
09:49this time taking us to the ravishing backdrop of Thailand.
09:57The cast is also different,
09:59save a couple of familiar faces like Natasha Rothwell's Belinda.
10:05No matter the locale or guest list,
10:07there's no such thing as a peaceful stay at the White Lotus.
10:10There's bound to be baggage involving struggling marriages,
10:13gossip behind everybody's back,
10:14and at least one person dying.
10:17Yet we'd still totally visit a White Lotus resort if the brand was real
10:20and we had a ridiculous amount of money.
10:27For the sake of our wallets and general well-being,
10:30we're probably better off just watching the exploits of the all-star ensemble,
10:33which welcomes Carrie Coon,
10:35Walton Goggins,
10:36Jason Isaacs,
10:37and too many others to list here.

11:03Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special
11:06Whether you were there for the OG not ready for primetime players
11:09or you're growing up with the current cast,
11:11it's hard to think of a show more generational than SNL.
11:19From the highs to the lows,
11:20we've looked to the sketch comedy series for five decades
11:23to shine the spotlight on emerging talent,
11:25comment on current events,
11:27and allow us to digest the past week with a good laugh.
11:39SNL 50 epitomized why the show still matters,
11:42highlighting the careers it launched
11:44and the sketches that immortalized them in the comedy scene.
11:46While YouTube has changed how many absorb the show,
11:49SNL 50 was an event fans needed to experience live,
11:53keeping the tradition going.
12:06Also, was this seriously Meryl Streep's first time on SNL?
12:09Yeah, but my pants got snagged on a piece of metal, so they're gone.
12:14And then, uh, as for underwear, underwear-wise,
12:17you know, this devil wears nada.
12:20What did you watch this past month?
12:22Did we forget anything?
12:23Let us know in the comments.
