An American woman whose dad had to be taken to hospital while on holiday in Spain was shocked when the medical bill came to £157 ($200).

Anna Ochoa, 39, has been living in Spain for five months and her parents paid her visit last month.

During their trip, Anna's father fell while leaving a restaurant and injured his shoulder and face.

The 83-year-old was taken to a hospital, where doctors conducted X-rays, treated his injuries and provided medication.

When the bill arrived, Ana and her family braced for a hefty charge but were stunned to see the final bill came to £157 ($200), a fraction of what they expected.

00:00My dad fell down the stairs in Madrid and broke his humerus. They had to call
00:05an ambulance, he had to go to the hospital, x-rays, everything, and it was a
00:11pretty big hospital visit, you know, all the things. They gave him medicine, all
00:16that. There he is with his sling. So we get the bill. Guess how much it is. Guess
00:25how much an ambulance and hospital and x-ray bill. He has no insurance, he's not
00:30from Spain, he's just visiting, he doesn't live here.
00:35Can you see it?
00:41185 euro for the ambulance, for everything, with no insurance, nothing. He
00:49doesn't live here. This is like full-blown what a person would pay
00:55without insurance.
