Joshua Morrow Opens Up About Terrible Loss
Transcript
00:00The L.A. fire may be over, but the chaos it left behind is far from settled.
00:06Recently, the Young and the Restless star Joshua Morrow has finally shared about his
00:10own experience with the disaster.
00:12So without any further ado, let's get right into it.
00:16Hey everyone, welcome to Trend Street.
00:20The wildfires that tore through Southern California in January turned countless lives upside down,
00:26including some Young and the Restless stars.
00:29Eric Braden and Melissa Claire Egan lost their homes entirely.
00:33But while Joshua Morrow, who's been playing Newman for three decades, didn't lose his
00:38house, his community was completely devastated by the Palisades fire.
00:43For him, witnessing the destruction firsthand was an emotional rollercoaster.
00:48In a recent interview with Woman's World, Morrow opened up about his family's experience
00:53and the strength it took to get through it all.
00:56L.A. is still picking up the pieces, but Morrow knows his family got lucky.
01:01Their home may have suffered smoke damage, but it's still standing.
01:05In fact, they even managed to grab their precious photos and valuables, and he still has a job
01:09he loves at YNR.
01:11But let's be real, it was no walk in the park.
01:14Morrow, his wife Toby, and their four kids—Cooper, Crew, who plays as Will Spencer on Bold and
01:20the Beautiful Cash, and Charlie Jo—were left couch surfing for over a month.
01:25With thousands of families displaced, finding a place was nearly impossible.
01:29Mind you, we're also six people, two dogs and a turtle.
01:34We're not an easy family to help out and have in your space because we take up a lot of
01:38bandwidth.
01:39It was a very stressful situation, and not knowing what we were going to do was pretty
01:43emotionally taxing, he said.
01:46A few days after the evacuation, Morrow and one of his sons went back to see what was
01:51left, and it wasn't pretty.
01:54Smoldering mini-fires were still burning on the hills, and entire homes were reduced
01:58to nothing but ash.
02:00It was even more heartbreaking for him to see his two very best friends in the world
02:05lost their homes completely.
02:07He described it as a horrible thing to see.
02:10And one of the hardest moments?
02:12Telling Eric Braden that his house hadn't made it.
02:16Morrow recalled how many legendary parties had been thrown in that backyard, how much
02:20Braden loved it there.
02:22For it just to be gone is so difficult to wrap my head around, he said.
02:27And just when they thought things couldn't get worse, mudslides hit, wiping out the road
02:32to their home.
02:33That left the Morrows with a tough call.
02:35Try to clean up and stay, or start fresh somewhere new.
02:40He admitted that while their house was still fixable, the neighborhood looked like something
02:43out of a disaster movie.
02:46It looks like a bomb went off, he says.
02:48Sure, it'll be rebuilt someday, but it'll never be the same.
02:52But what hurts the most for Morrow is to see his community suffering.
02:56He even got emotional talking about how his entire family's life was rooted there.
03:01His kids grew up in those parks, went to those schools, and made memories in every little
03:06shop.
03:07The best years of my life, without question, were formed there, and it's just been wiped
03:12off the face of the earth.
03:14The memories I have, that's all that's left now, Morrow added.
03:18For now, the Morrows are settling into their new home for at least a couple of years.
03:23But the future is still up in the air.
03:26Morrow admitted they have no idea if they'll ever go back, and that uncertainty is tough
03:31to live with.
03:32He also admitted feeling guilty about leaving behind the place they loved so much, but his
03:37priority is making sure his family is safe and starting fresh.
03:42Through it all, Morrow also had nothing but love for his wife, calling her the absolute
03:47backbone in this whole situation.
03:50My wife shouldered most of this, picking up the pieces, finding this new place, and keeping
03:55us all together.
03:56Because that's who she is, he said.
04:00She runs her own company, and she's a problem solver.
04:02She gets things done.
04:04The nightmare may be over for the Morrow, but if they'll ever go back is still up in
04:08question.
04:09But it's amazing to see how much he loves and cares about the people and community around
04:14him.
