00:00Eurostar and local trains were disrupted at Paris-Gare du Nord station after the discovery
00:16of an unexploded World War II bomb.
00:22Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for an air and sea truce after Ukraine came
00:27under fire by a massive Russian drone and missile attack.
00:31Russia fired 67 missiles from air, land and sea and launched 194 strike and decoy drones
00:39that is according to Ukraine's air force.
00:42At least 10 people, including a child, were wounded.
00:46Zelensky wrote that the Odessa, Potava, Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Ternopil regions were struck.
00:52Russia mainly targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure, including the Black Sea port of Odessa, which
00:58was struck in the early hours of Friday.
01:02The attack came hours after Zelensky confirmed talks with the U.S. on ending Russia's full-scale
01:08will take place next week in Saudi Arabia.
01:16Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that talks with U.S. officials aimed at bringing
01:20the war in his country to an end will resume in Saudi Arabia next week.
01:25In a statement on his official Telegram channel, the Ukrainian leader announced that he'll
01:29be flying to Saudi Arabia on Monday to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
01:35After the meeting, a Ukrainian delegation will stay behind to participate in the talks.
01:40The dramatic turn in tide comes just one week after a highly tense meeting between Zelensky
01:45and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump soured U.S.-Ukrainian relations.
01:51The meeting ended in a shouting match in the Oval Office, and in the days that followed,
01:55Washington suspended military and financial aid to Kiev, as well as intelligence sharing.
02:01However, U.S. officials have reason to believe that Ukraine is now ready to meaningfully engage.
02:32Whitkoff added that Zelensky apologized for the events that transpired, hinting that this
02:37may be the reason behind Washington's shift in approach.
02:41But in a separate press briefing, Trump claimed that Ukraine wants to make a deal out of need,
02:46not choice, and without elaborating much, said the same about Russia.
02:50I think what's going to happen is Ukraine wants to make a deal because I don't think
02:56they have a choice.
02:57I also think that Russia wants to make a deal because in a certain different way, a different
03:02way that only I know, only I know, they have no choice either.
03:07The talks in Saudi come after a special European Council session was held in Brussels on Thursday,
03:12which Zelensky attended.
03:14European leaders explored ways to bolster Ukraine's defenses and guarantee Kiev and
03:19continental security, as the threat of an increasingly Europe-critical Washington looms.
03:28EU leaders have agreed on a momentous plan to vastly increase European defense and security
03:34investment and spending of up to 800 billion euros.
03:37Heads of state and governments joined by Ukrainian President Zelensky travelled to Brussels as
03:42part of an emergency meeting, triggered in response to waning transatlantic relations
03:47and an announcement by the US that it was suspending military supplies to Kiev.
03:51Meanwhile it's not clear whether the US will provide a backstop to European peacekeeping
03:56troops in the event of a peace deal in Ukraine.
03:59But President of the European Council Antonio Costa says guarantees were necessary to preserve
04:04global order.
04:06First of all, the best security guarantee are the Ukrainians themselves.
04:13Since 24th of February 2022, the Ukrainian army is resisting.
04:21A lot of people believed at that time that they cannot resist more than three days, then
04:29more than three weeks, now they are resisting more than three years.
04:36Because this war is not only about Ukraine, it's about the respect of international law.
04:42It's the respect of international rules-based order.
04:46Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban blocked conclusions at the summit reaffirming
04:51the EU's unrelenting military support of Ukraine, saying the EU was isolating itself
04:56from Russia, the US and China.
04:58But President of the European Council Antonio Costa said Hungary was isolated from the rest
05:03of the Union.
05:05Angry is a different strategic approach on Ukraine.
05:10But that means that angry is isolated among the 27.
05:16And we respect angry position, but it's one out of 27, and 26 are more than one.
05:30President Zelensky thanked EU leaders for their unwavering support at a time described
05:34by President Macron of France as a new era of uncertainty.
05:37Sources also told Euronews that President Zelensky floated the idea of a one-million-man
05:43strong Ukrainian army supplied and supported by the West as any potential peace plan for
05:49his country.

05:57Traffic at the Gare du Nord train station in Paris came to a halt on Friday after an
06:02unexploded bomb dating back from World War II was discovered in the middle of the train
06:08tracks.
06:09The Gare du Nord is the busiest railway station in all of Europe with around 220 million passengers
06:17transiting through each year.
06:19Trains such as the TALIS as well as the Eurostar going to major cities in France but as well
06:24as major European capitals were all cancelled.
06:29I had an obligation to meet up there, so it's a bit annoying.
06:34How are you feeling at the moment?
06:38For now, I'm trying to find solutions, and at the end of the day I'll see if I'm happy
06:44or not.
06:45In the end, we're lucky to have someone to pick us up to finish the journey by car.
06:51No, no, I'm not at all, I mean, I'm happy, there's no problem, I'm not alarmed
06:56to have missed my train.
06:58The last time a World War II shell was discovered on train tracks was back in 2019 in the western
07:05suburbs of Paris.
07:07Back then, the local traffic was heavily disrupted, but a disruption of this magnitude on a Friday
07:14and especially at Europe's busiest train station is quite unprecedented.
07:21U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a postponement in tariffs on various imports
07:28from Canada and Mexico.
07:30Trump signed an executive order exempting some products compliant with the U.S.-Mexico-Canada
07:35agreement from the 25% tariffs for one month.
07:39Trump says his decision to postpone was a short-term maneuver to avoid hurting American
07:44car companies.
07:46The 47th U.S. President, however, insists that the backtrack has nothing to do with
07:50the reactions of the stock markets.
07:53No, nothing to do with the market, I'm not even looking at the market, because long term
07:57the United States will be very strong with what's happening here.
08:01Now these are countries and companies, foreign companies, that have been ripping us off,
08:06and no president did anything about it until I came along, and then I did a lot about it.
08:12Canada has decided to maintain its first wave of retaliatory tariffs on 30 billion dollars
08:17of U.S. products in place.
08:19They have, however, suspended the implementation of a further tariff on another 125 billion
08:25dollars after Trump signed the executive orders.
08:29China, currently facing a 20% duty, issued a fiery response.
08:50Trump
09:04insists that he's committed to his tariff plans to usher in what he calls America's
09:08golden age.
09:09The U.S. president says his reciprocal tariff policy is also set to go into effect on the
09:142nd of April, implementing equal tariffs on all countries that tax U.S. products.
09:24China hit back at higher U.S. tariffs on Thursday, with leaders saying they will not yield to
09:29what they say are coercion and threats.
09:32The Chinese foreign minister made clear that there are no winners in a trade war.
09:45As China's economic growth could see a hit if exports reduce, the country is hoping to
09:56boost internal production and consumption to combat a potential slowdown.
10:00The Chinese minister of commerce acknowledged that Chinese exporters face serious challenges
10:05and that the country is also dealing with slower consumer spending.
10:14China
10:28has also hit the U.S. with duties and other restrictions on American goods.
10:33The commerce minister, however, stressed that China is open to resolving differences over
10:38trade.
10:39He added that his country expects mutual respect in its dealings with other countries.
10:45Syria
10:49This is the moment Syria's security forces were ambushed by fighters linked to top-up
10:54leader Bashar al-Assad.
10:59So far, more than 70 people have been killed and dozens injured.
11:05Syria's new government sent major reinforcements overnight to the cities of Latakia and Tartus
11:11in the country's northwest, in a bid to get the situation under control, state media reported.
11:20The coastal region is the heart of al-Assad's minority Alawite sect, and it remains a base
11:26of support for the country's former president.
11:31The violence on Thursday was the worst since al-Assad was removed from power in early December
11:36by insurgent groups led by the Islamist HTS.
