00:00Despite relatively recent endeavors to fix the situation, air quality around the world is in decline.
00:05But what city has the absolute worst?
00:07Well, this one.
00:08According to a recent report conducted by air purifying company IQ Air,
00:13this is Lahore, Pakistan, now the winner of the world's worst air quality.
00:17The report makes its determination based on how much particulate matter,
00:20specifically lung-damaging PM2.5, is in the air.
00:24Reuters reports that Lahore jumped 10 spots on the list since just last year alone,
00:28moving up from 86.5 micrograms of PM2.5 in 2021 to 97.4 micrograms in 2022.
00:37The number two spot went to the Chinese city of Hotan,
00:39with 94.3 micrograms, down from 101.5 in 2021.
00:44According to the World Health Organization,
00:465 micrograms of PM2.5 per cubic meter is the maximum recommended for good air quality,
00:52meaning these cities have close to 25 times the recommended particulate matter floating around in the air.
00:57India and Pakistan were rated as having the worst air quality for the most people,
01:01with 60% of their entire population living in areas with 7 times the recommended concentration of PM2.5,
01:08with the report also finding that 1 in 10 people all around the world
01:12live in areas with particulate matter over what's deemed healthy.
