00:00It's a tight fit.
00:09Start with the planer.
00:10See if we fit.
00:11It's cold.
00:12It's cold.
00:13It works.
00:14Yeah.
00:15It's got to sit on the floor.
00:16Yeah.
00:17It's got to sit up a lot higher though.
00:31Actually this works out better because I can, instead of it just resting on those little
00:37lips, I can put a one inch board.
00:40This way?
00:41Yep.
00:42So it's almost like you're going to put like a little one by four or something.
00:51Yeah, I'll put some one by's and put it in here.
00:52Yeah.
00:53So it can set in there.
00:54Yeah.
00:55That'll work great.
00:56Okay.
00:57How about the table saw?
00:58You have to get the legs off of it, don't you?
00:59Oh, I'm not doing that right now.
01:00Okay.
01:01We'll test that later.
01:02The table saw hopefully will sit right in here and fit perfectly.
01:03The planer fits, so I'm going to screw these in place.
04:56When I put these side pieces on here and I notched these out, I didn't like how the
05:05end showed on this face and this is the front face of the bench.
05:11So I changed how I did it up here and instead of notching it all the way through, I kept
05:17the back half and still set it in the notch so I won't have any end grain sticking out
05:26here and I won't have any screws.
05:28I'm just putting in one single screw a little bit angled into there.
05:46I'm test fitting the saw.
06:13It doesn't quite fit.
06:15I am trying to put it in here and I am maybe about an eighth too narrow.
06:25So I think what I'm going to do is I'll just take the skill saw and I'm going to run a
06:29strip off this side.
06:30If it's not enough, I'll run another strip off this side and then hopefully we'll be
06:34sitting right.
06:35But if I angle it and just put the one side in, it does look like I'm also a little bit
06:43tall.
06:46So this one is probably correct and this one's a little tall so I'm probably going to have
06:49to cut it down a little also.
06:53So we're going to get this to fit.
08:13I'd say that's pretty good.
08:23Can't quite slide it all the way forward because my handle here is hitting so I think I'm going
08:30to have to, I don't know, make an arc or something out of this.
09:44So I'm realizing I cut this wrong.
09:50I don't have enough room to put this board back in because I did it on half expecting
09:54to do a notch but there's no lip.
09:58There's no lip on the back of this.
10:00It's flush.
10:01So there's no reason to notch this board.
10:06Maybe I'll just run a notch anyway on it and wedge it back in there so I have a back.
10:13Or maybe I'll just cut it in half and slip it in here.
10:17But then I'll have to get some sort of wedge just in this little piece though to keep the
10:23strength on this board so I have a compression force on top.
10:43There we go.
11:13There we go.
11:43There we go.
12:13There we go.
12:25I just realized I didn't count the thickness of the decking on top.
12:30So this is going to sit below the deck.
12:43There we go.
13:13There we go.
13:43There we go.
14:13There we go.
14:25Sounds like I'm out of gas.
14:28This edge is looking really nice now though.
14:33I don't see really any just little waves.
14:36Just right at the ends of each side there's a little bit.
14:41Otherwise we're looking really good throughout so I think this is going to work for me.
14:46Good enough at least to be able to do this and then I'll be able to make a better jig
14:50for it.
14:51Better fill that up with gas though.
15:10There we go.
15:40There we go.
16:10There we go.
16:40There we go.
17:11I finished planing the planking last night and I just cut these four pieces with 45 degree
17:18angles on all the corners so I'm going to get them screwed down and I'm going to pull
17:23out these 2x4s on the edge because they kind of warp a little bit and I'm going to pull
17:27them straight with these and then from there we'll take the rest of the planking I have
17:32and start cutting them to length to go in between this way.
17:40There we go.
18:10There we go.
18:40There we go.
19:10There we go.
19:41There we go.
19:44There we go.
20:14There we go.
20:44There we go.
21:14There we go.
21:44There we go.
22:14There we go.
22:44There we go.
23:14There we go.
23:44There we go.
24:14There we go.
24:44There we go.
25:14There we go.
25:44There we go.
26:14There we go.
26:44There we go.
27:14There we go.
27:45Well I'm definitely not a craftsman but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
27:50It's the first time I've ever used a router so that was interesting.
27:54It turned out alright I think.
27:56I had a little bit of a hard time with this piece.
27:59So it's not the most smooth but I sanded it so it is a lot better now.
28:05The table saw fits in here really nice.
28:09It sits flush with the table so it shouldn't catch as it's going.
28:13If anything I'll have to sand down this corner just a smidge right here it looks like maybe.
28:21But it fits in there really nice.
28:24It doesn't come out very easy and that is because of the handle up front.
28:30I have this piece and I made a little handle to be able to pull it out so that I can adjust my saw blade.
28:38And then also the on and off switch is down here.
28:41And the reason why the saw doesn't come out is because of this front lip.
28:45The handle for raising the saw blade gets caught on here.
28:48Being this is supported on both edges I probably don't need that so I might end up taking that piece out.
28:55So that I can remove the table saw if need be.
28:58But in the meantime I think I'm just going to leave it.
29:06I was using the planer a little bit on the table here.
29:10And there's a little bit of leeway with it but when I'm pushing things through this is plenty where it doesn't move on me.
29:19I don't have to try and hold it while pushing pieces through.
29:22This holds it perfect for me.
29:24And then when I'm not using the planer and I want to use the table saw I can take this out and put my insert in.
29:36Which gives me just a flush tabletop.
29:41I'm pretty happy with how that turned out.
29:46As for anything I might do in the future with this.
29:51I may make another one of these inserts.
29:54And drill a hole in the middle and then mount the router to the bottom side of it.
30:01So that it has a router table.
30:04I'll just add a fence to it and then I can run boards across it.
30:07And then being the on off switch for the saw is underneath here.
30:14It's not very easy to access so in case I have to shut this off quickly.
30:18I might add a switch on the front side.
30:22Like a light switch and then run the light switch to an outlet so I can turn it on and off off the front.
30:32And then as for a fence on here.
30:37I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do for that currently.
30:41Because the fence that came with the saw doesn't work very well.
30:45Every time I put any pressure on it the back side slips.
30:48So it doesn't work very well.
30:50So what I've been doing is I just clamp a piece of wood down or the level or something.
30:57So I can use that as a fence.
30:58But now that I have this table done I don't have anywhere to clamp to if I need to cut closer.
31:03So in the meantime I might just make a little square frame.
31:14With a flat board up here and then just little pieces that go back.
31:19So that I can move it in and out and then clamp it to the side of the table.
31:22That will be a quick solution to it.
31:25Not a very nice solution but a quick solution where I can use it in the meantime.
31:32I don't think I need to change anything for the planer.
31:36It just works as is.
31:41Yeah, I think that's about it.
31:44I'm really happy with how this turned out.
31:46I think it looks really nice.
31:48There's a few boards with cracks in them.
31:50This one, this one and a little bit on this one.
31:54I think that's perfectly fine.
31:55It looks like there's some on this one too.
31:57I think that looks fine.
31:59I really like the coloring in here.
32:01There's a lot of the blue streaks throughout this spruce.
32:08I think it turned out really pretty.
32:10The only other thing I'm going to probably do to this is I'll put a clear coat on here.
32:16Just like a UV protective and water protective.
32:22But that will have to wait until the spring when it's warmer.
32:25It's just too cold to be able to do that right now.
32:28I'll cover the whole thing and get it all nice and protected.
32:33In the meantime, I'm probably just going to throw a piece of the insulation that we haven't installed just on top of here.
32:39That will keep it dry.
32:41Keep the snow off. I can just dump it off.
32:44The legs, I'm going to probably have to prop up on something.
32:47In the spring when everything starts melting, I'm not soaking up into my legs.
32:51It's super sturdy. Doesn't budge whatsoever.
32:57Yeah, I'm pretty happy with it.
33:01Still learning.
33:03Always learning.
