A church service with the great and the good of Walsall was held to remember the Covid pandemic, marking five years since it happened. Candles were lit and placed on a Walsall map and despite nearly setting fire to the table, the service went well and some poignant readings and performances took place.

00:00So we have remembered, we have reflected, and now we continue to give thanks and be loved to the future with that light and hope.
00:11Morning is Broken is the most suitable hymn to finish with because it speaks about morning is broken, like that first morning, that freshness, that vigor of life.
00:22So if you're able, please stand and sing for me.
00:24Oh, if you ever were to be afraid,
00:32There's sailing right, right for right,
00:39Life on the bridge over shallow waters.
00:50I'll believe you're mine.
00:54We're standing on both sides of the response, within the NHS and within our communities, leading our incredible voluntary community and social enterprise sector here in Walsall.
01:12Together, we delivered food parcels, we collected prescriptions, and most crucially, reached out to those who are lonely and afraid.
01:24Our fabulous community rose to the challenge, offering support to neighbours, friends and strangers.
01:33We've become a true community.
01:55If every little bit of love's a lie,
02:05Surrender all the freedom.
02:15Signs are blue,
02:21They're blue,
02:24Dreams that you dream to,
02:27Dream really do come.
02:32Shifting to online learning almost overnight,
02:36And our teachers adapting to new ways of educating, while still providing in-person lessons for the children of key workers.
02:48When schools reopened, teachers and staff faced the immense challenge of managing the natural anxieties of pupils, while maintaining isolated teaching sets and new safety measures.
03:03Their resilience and dedication ensure that our young people continue to learn, to grow and feel supported, through the disruption and something that must have been very strange to them, especially to our young ones.
03:21And let's hope we get rolling water to put that egg very quickly, because I am panicking whilst I'm standing here, thinking, shall I go on or not?
03:39Here we go.
03:42Well done, Ed.
03:54When he asks for help, they come.
04:58The Lord is the strength of my days, before whom should I tremble with fear?
05:16May the voice of angels come to reach you,
05:23May they lead you to paradise,
05:29May the Lord enfold you in his mercy,
05:37May you find eternal life.
