00:00All right, we're here at South by Southwest with Tabitha Brown, the Chief Empowerment Officer
00:04at Clover. Thanks a lot for being here. Congratulations on the recent gig.
00:07Thank you. Thank you for having me.
00:08Of course. What has most excited you so far about partnering with an amazing brand like
00:12Clover and the work you've been able to do?
00:14You know what? Being in alignment with a company who also has a passion for small businesses,
00:20building community, right? And that's what I'm all about. So it's like,
00:23this is perfect. It's almost like family.
00:26What are those biggest pain points you hear from small and medium-sized businesses as
00:29they're trying to scale and looking for the resources to be successful? What's the feedback
00:33that you're hearing?
00:34Oh, there's always pain points, right? As a small business owner myself, but also working
00:38with many of them, like lack of funding, right? Lack of inventory management, scheduling,
00:45employee management, the list goes on and on. But if you have a perfect system, right? Come on,
00:50Clover. All right. That's smart and it can help you organize your life and your scheduling
00:55and your business. Things can get better every day, just a little bit at a time.
01:00What would you most want the average, smaller, medium-sized business owner to know about
01:04Clover brand, which undoubtedly they recognize, but they might not be too familiar with?
01:08That it really can help your business, right? It's almost like having a friend that you
01:13can call that can really help you. Because a lot of times people don't have a lifeline
01:18and they feel like they're alone in business and they don't have anybody that they can
01:21reach out and help. But you actually have someone that will be willing to help you walk
01:25you through things. And you have a system in place that is actually, I'm not a tech
01:29person, but it's easy to use. Okay? Like you can literally look at it and say, okay,
01:33I know what to hit here and I know what to do here. So it's very accessible and easy.
01:38And it makes you not feel overwhelmed because business already makes us feel overwhelmed
01:41sometimes.
01:42Oh, you're not kidding. Tabitha, what is one money lesson you wish you had learned
01:45earlier in your television career?
01:48One money lesson. Invest early. Invest early, right? Because sometimes when you go without
01:54money for so long, when you get it, okay, you want to like do something with it. But
02:00when you do something with it, invest it. Don't just spend it. Because I got a whole
02:04lot of money that I ain't got nothing to show for from a long time ago. Okay? But now I'm
02:09very smart with it.
02:10How about some lessons you learned from Donna's recipe that you're able to share with other
02:13small business owners as they're kicking things off in their own journey?
02:17You know, with Donna's recipe, we started off like direct-to-consumer online. And a
02:22lot of times people are in a rush to go to retail, but it was the best experience because
02:26we were able to build an email list, right? We have our data. We know how our shoppers
02:31are. We know the analytics. We know our demographics. We know the regions. Everything we learned,
02:37we learned from doing direct-to-consumer first. So I say, do that. It's all right to start
02:42online.
02:43Well, thanks a lot for taking the time to join us and congratulations again on your
02:46very exciting role with Clover. We're looking forward to continuing the conversation.
02:49Thank you. I appreciate y'all.
