Greenland votes amid Trump controversy over US ambitions

Polls opened on Tuesday for Greenlanders to elect their 31 lawmakers who will shape policy on the strategic island in the North Atlantic.

00:00Greenland opened its polls for parliamentary elections on Tuesday.
00:05Around 41,000 people are eligible to vote and 31 lawmakers will be elected.
00:11Several parties are participating in the election, including the left-wing party Inuit Atakatigit,
00:18led by incumbent Prime Minister Mute Burup, and the Simut, which has led the parliament
00:25in the past.
00:26Unofficial election results are expected soon after 10 o'clock this evening.
00:31Greenland occupies a strategic location in the North Atlantic, halfway between the US
00:37and Russia, and contains rare earth mineral primal in driving the global economy.
