00:00Looking at a specific Liverpool player in Javier Elliott, we mentioned his breakthrough season last campaign, he was fantastic and Jurgen Klopp really sung his praise throughout the season.
00:14Under Arnish, he's maybe been a bit more indifferent, a bit less game time here and there, but a huge goal away at PSG in the Champions League.
00:23Where do you sort of see his future? I mean, well, before we get into that, let's just start with Javier Elliott and his time at Liverpool and his impact at the side.
00:32I mean, last season was fantastic for him and then moving on forward, how do you sort of see his future developing in terms of being a Liverpool player?
00:45I don't think people realise how young Javier Elliott is. He's still only 21 and he's played 138 games as we speak for Liverpool.
00:55He reached 100 appearances quicker than Steven Gerrard did and that's saying something.
01:00Steven Gerrard is arguably the greatest player that's ever played for Liverpool.
01:05Of course, he had injuries when he was a little bit younger, Steven Gerrard, but Javier Elliott, if you forget him, he had that leg break when he was, what, 18 at the time?
01:16He was starting, I think, his third successive game for Liverpool away at Leeds after a really good loan spell at Blackburn when he was only 17.
01:29And as I say, yeah, it feels like he's been around the first team for years and he's still only 21, about to turn 22.
01:39So, look, I think that's testament to his ability and how precocious he has been as a footballer.
01:48Now, the challenge for Javier Elliott is how does he go from being a talented youngster who a lot of people think has got plenty of potential but has some flaws in his game,
02:04how does he take it to the next step of becoming a regular starter at Liverpool?
02:08Because it's not an easy task.
02:10There have been plenty of players who have maybe been in and around the first team and they just haven't made it because it is such a difficult step up to make.
02:20That Javier Elliott's next challenge, has he been unlucky this season?
02:26A little bit, yeah, but Liverpool have, as we speak, 15 points clear of the top of the Premier League.
02:31So, I don't think he can really moan his lack of game time.
02:37Maybe in recent weeks, yes, you could argue that, especially when Liverpool needs to rotate things.
02:42But it's a great moment for him at PSG.
02:45It could prove absolutely crucial if Liverpool were to go on and win the competition.
02:50But I think Javier Elliott's now getting to the age where he will have to assess things, he will have to have some frank conversations in terms of his future, his role.
03:00Because in the current system, I don't think there's an out-and-out role for him.
03:06There will obviously be a bit of a clear-out in the summer in terms of the uncertainty with a lot of players' contracts.
03:13Do you feel maybe that could play in his favour?
03:16Because players could be coming out of the side that have been favoured over him.
03:20He could maybe look at that and have a chat with Arne Schlott and work a plan to make sure he gets more game time next season.
03:27Do you think that could possibly help his Liverpool tenure?
03:32Well, the two positions that he main places in are No. 10 or right wing.
03:38Abi Ellis says No. 10 is his favourite position.
03:42The right wing, if Mo Salah leaves, if he doesn't sign a new contract, is that a position for him?
03:49In No. 10, you've got Dominic Suboslai, who has been excellent for most of the season.
03:54You've also got Curtis Jones.
03:57In Arne Schlott's system, he wants someone with a bit more running power, maybe.
04:02Someone who's not your quintessential No. 10 that you think of.
04:06Playmaker. He wants a little bit more than that.
04:09Does Javier Le fit in for that?
04:11I mean, look, I think he's a tremendous player.
04:14I almost think that the way football has gone, if you were happy to almost pigeonhole yourself as someone who comes off the bench for the last 20 minutes and say,
04:27right, that's going to be my role in football from now until the end of my career.
04:31I think he could have an absolutely tremendous career like that.
04:34I really think that he could play for Liverpool for the rest of his career coming off the bench.
04:39But no footballer wants that, let's be honest.
04:41They want to play as much football as they can.
04:44And that's a decision that he might have to make in the future.
04:49Can he go on and do it at Liverpool?
04:51The ability is there, definitely.
04:53But is he just suited to the way Liverpool play?
04:57That's the big question.
05:00But he'll be looking at players who've left Liverpool and the careers have hit a little bit of a slide.
05:05You know, he'd come through the ranks of Fulham with Fabio Carvalho, he's went to Brentford and he's struggled.
05:10So to have Elias look at that and think, well, maybe the grass might not be greener quite yet.
05:15Maybe I'm better, stick around a couple more years, develop and get a little bit more stronger, a bit more powerful.
05:21And then if he's, you know, 24, 25 and he thinks, right, this isn't going to happen for me at Liverpool, then I will have to move on.
