00:00Hopefully, the Philippines and Slovenia will help each other in the industry of trade and investment.

00:07This is followed by a bilateral meeting between the Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo and the Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanya Fayon.

00:19The bilateral meeting was held between the Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo and the Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanya Fayon

00:26as part of her three-day official visit to the Philippines.

00:30This was the first time that the Slovenian Foreign Minister visited the Philippines

00:3531 years after the diplomatic relations between the two countries were established.

00:40The cooperation between the Philippines and Slovenia in the important sectors was discussed,

00:46particularly in trade and investments,

00:48which resulted in the first political consultation between the two countries in February in the Slovenian city of Ljubljana.

00:55The two countries agreed on other sectoral areas such as space, science and technology application,

01:02nuclear energy, maritime education, training, sports, and labor.

01:07The two officials also discussed regional and international developments,

01:11particularly what is happening in the Indo-Pacific, ASEAN, West Philippine Sea,

01:16and what is happening in Ukraine and the Middle East.

01:19I would like to express, as the Secretary mentioned,

01:23our full solidarity with the Philippines over the continuing incidents in the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone.

01:31Dangerous maneuvers in this maritime area, which we have witnessed in recent years,

01:38are disturbing and run contrary to UNCLOS.

01:42For Slovenia's respect of international law,

01:45including UNCLOS as well for the International Arbiter Awards, is of paramount importance.

01:53I thank the Foreign Minister for expressing solidarity with the Philippines

01:57when it comes to the security and the observance of international law in the South China Sea,

02:04with the Minister pointing out Slovenia's commitment to international law, particularly UNCLOS.

02:11The Philippines is fully committed to defending its sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction

02:17in the South China Sea, but at the same time engaging China in dialogue and diplomacy.

02:24Foreign Minister Fayon also announced the opening of the Slovenia Embassy here in the Philippines,

02:29which is the country's first diplomatic mission in the ASEAN region.

02:32It is a historic opportunity for Slovenia to open its first residential embassy in the Philippines,

02:40and also first embassy to basically covering ASEAN as a hub.

02:45So we do want to really strengthen our political, economic relations,

02:49people-to-people contacts as two very like-minded countries.

02:55The opening of the embassy here in Manila do indicate that the prospects for greater

03:01cooperation between the Philippines and Slovenia are very bright, and not only in terms of our

03:07bilateral cooperation, but also on regional and international issues.
