00:00Creating its own void?
00:02No.
00:03We probably removed whatever is the sort of natural seal there, and I think all that
00:08material collapsed all the way down the hole here.
00:10If there was still a tunnel or chamber down there, we could have just pierced the roof
00:14of it.
00:15Well, that's a good point.
00:16Possibly.
00:17Yeah.
00:18I guess it could be a treasure vault.
00:19Yeah.
00:20We could have collapsed into that, I suppose.
00:21When the cave-in began, as the TB1 shaft approached a depth of 160 feet, the team was
00:31anxiously hoping that it would encounter the fabled Chapel Vault, a seven-foot-tall concrete-encased
00:38wooden chest that treasure hunters Frederick Blair and William Chapel reportedly drilled
00:43into at a depth of 153 feet back in 1897.
00:48Curiously, this is the same area where recent groundwater testing has revealed high-trace
00:54evidence of gold, silver, and other metals.
00:58However, this is also where previous searchers have constructed tunnels and shafts during
01:04the past two centuries, which have left various voids and decayed structures deep underground.
01:11I think it's going to be either original works or some undocumented searcher shaft or tunnel
01:16or treasure.
01:18Now, it is the team's hope that Rock and SB Canada can stabilize the area and keep digging
01:26to determine whether the team has simply penetrated an abandoned searcher structure or a vault
01:31that contains the treasure people have been trying to unearth since 1795.
01:37Collapse feature in this area could represent a variety of different things.
01:41It might suggest a chamber, a void, or a tunnel.
01:46I'm sure that's exciting and interesting.
01:48But paramount importance again, priority number one is to keep everyone safe and address the
01:52situation and hopefully continue to advance the can.
01:56Here comes Vanessa.
01:57What happened?
01:58Where can I get water?
01:59We can get you water.
02:00Okay.
02:01Yeah, we want to introduce water.
02:02Get some more hydrostatic head pressure in there because it's getting tight on us, so...
02:07How much water?
02:08What do you need?
02:09I would like to fill up my can all the way, so I need to fill 50 feet.
02:12Seven-foot diameter.
02:13We'll get you the water.
02:14Okay.
02:16In an attempt to prevent further collapsing around and beneath the TB1 shaft, the team
02:23will fill it with thousands of gallons of water.
02:26This will help stabilize the shaft and voids beneath it, allowing the 18.5-ton hammer grab
02:32to remove more spoils and hopefully valuables from deep below.
02:38We're in a void underground that we're unfamiliar with.
02:40How much water?
02:41What do you need?
02:42I would like to fill up my can all the way, so I need to fill 50 feet.
02:45Seven-foot diameter.
02:46We'll get you the water.
02:47Okay.
02:49In an attempt to prevent further collapsing around and beneath the TB1 shaft, the team
02:55will fill it with thousands of gallons of water.
02:58This will help stabilize the shaft and voids beneath it, allowing the 18.5-ton hammer grab
03:04to remove more spoils and hopefully valuables from deep below.
03:10We're in a void underground that we're unfamiliar with.
03:13It could be a vault, meaning potentially treasure.
03:16That could be the mystery.
03:18That could be where it is.
03:20There's some pretty good reasons to keep trying.
03:25So, we're going to pull out the decks.
03:26It's going to take us a little time.
03:28Level everything, add some water to the can, and then re-go at it.
03:31Okay.
03:32Okay?
03:33Cool.
03:34Well, what did we know at the beginning of the year?
03:35We didn't have surprises.
03:36Yeah.
03:37Well, we just got one.
03:38It's in a hell of a lot of wood.
03:40Yes, there's all kinds of potential difficulties to work through.
03:44Everyone that came before us had problems.
03:46I don't know.
03:47I'm not super optimistic that we won't have any further issues, but maybe I'm wrong.
03:52I actually think we will finish this hole.
03:54I mean, it's best guess at this point.
03:56We definitely don't want to give up.
03:58No.
03:59We've got a lot of food to look down to.
04:02We can figure it out.
04:04Oh, yeah.
04:05The efforts to locate a fabled treasure vault continue in the Money Pit area.
04:10Morning.
04:11Hey, guys.
04:12How are you?
04:13Hanging in there, ready for some big revelations.
04:14Well, this could be the spot to find some.
04:17The Laginas and Gary join Craig Tester, fellow Oak Island landowner Tom Nolan,
04:22and other members of the team in the northern region of the swamp.
04:26Rick's been wanting to dig this forever, 15 years or so.
04:31It is here where they are searching for caches of valuables
04:34that may lie hidden outside of the Money Pit area.
04:39The thing about this place is it's all about your dad, to me.
04:42Yeah.
04:43He believed that there was something here to find,
04:45so let's get out on the machine.
04:47Let's position it.
04:48Let's get to it.
04:49Let's dig.
04:52I want to get dirty.
04:55In 1969, legendary treasure hunter Fred Nolan
04:59drained the swamp and was shocked to discover pieces of large sailing vessels.
05:05He also found 16th century wooden survey stakes,
05:09tools that Fred believed had been used to create the Blackish Fog
05:13in order to hide numerous caches of valuables.
05:18There's going to be quite a few more rocks at least right in through here.
05:21Incredibly, several weeks ago,
05:24after uncovering a cobblestone pathway
05:26and a number of additional survey stakes in the northern region of the swamp,
05:31the team discovered an empty vault-like structure made of brick and slate.
05:37This is going to have some real answers. I really believe that.
05:40Now, along with Fred's son Tom,
05:43Rick, Marty and Craig are searching several yards to the north.
05:48It is their hope that they will uncover similar hidden structures
05:52that will prove Fred's theory to be true.
05:54If we find another of these vaults,
05:56we can only assume something was hidden here.
05:59And hopefully, whatever was once here is still here.
06:07I got a signal.
06:08I'm going to shut him down, Tom.
06:13Let me see if it's close to the surface.
06:16I'll try to pinpoint it.
06:17All right.
06:18OK.
06:19Fine.
06:20I can save you some digging.
06:21Yeah.
06:22OK.
06:29It's there.
06:40Is that a written address?
06:41That's not it, is it?
06:42That was brick.
06:43You see that bit of brick in the old...
06:47A piece of brick buried in the northern region of the swamp?
06:50Could the team have discovered evidence
06:52that an important structure or vault is hidden nearby?
06:57Put it in the pocket.
06:58Discussion.
06:59We're not missing anything.
07:00I'd say exactly that.
07:01Yeah.
07:05The swamp has always been a mystery.
07:08That's the nature of the swamp on Oak Island.
07:10But by digging in this new area,
07:12we're hoping to find clues to what happened here.
07:15We have to follow the clues.
07:21Hey!
07:23What's that?
07:25Coming in, Alan.
07:31Oh, look at that.
07:33Really nice-looking, sharpened state.
07:36Isn't that amazing?
07:37It just looks like the day it went underground.
07:39Yeah.
07:40That's Andun, wasn't it?
07:41Yeah.
07:42This is impressive.
07:43In the northern region of the Oak Island swamp...
07:45There's another one right here.
07:47Rick and Marty Lagina and members of the team
07:50have just discovered two more hand-cut wooden survey stakes.
07:55What is that?
07:56Two stakes.
07:58Now the question is,
07:59could they be clues to validate Fred Nolan's theory
08:02that hidden valuables might also be found in this area?
08:07Are these the first ones that have been found on this side?
08:09No.
08:10Years ago, we found two or three closer to the road.
08:13But this is the first ones I know of
08:15that were found this deep into the swamp on this side.
08:18I think Steve should come out and GPS this,
08:21because then he can see if there's continuity here
08:23or something different.
08:24Yeah?
08:25Okay.
08:26I'm pretty sure he's coming out right now.
08:28The plan for the swamp, of course,
08:30is to follow the line of survey stakes.
08:33But the hope is that as we follow these clues,
08:37it will lead to some greater understanding
08:40of what might be here in the pond.
08:43Hey, Steve.
08:44Hey, guys.
08:45Well, what I'm going to do is I'm going to hop down
08:47and I'll grab the areas
08:48or the two exact locations of those stakes.
08:50Okay.
08:51Steve, you want to hop down and pin this?
08:52Sure do.
08:54Hey, I might check out this wood.
08:56Let's see that top one.
08:57I don't know why the two are together.
08:59It's odd.
09:00It's not the pattern we've seen.
09:02So this line of survey stakes
09:03projects to an area
09:04where we found all of those wooden stakes.
09:06Nice.
09:07Yeah.
09:08I mean, that's perfectly online, almost.
09:10So I would keep following them.
09:11Yep.
09:12Well, I'm not surprised at all
09:14when Steve asserts that the stakes line up
09:17with previous stakes
09:18that have been found in the pond.
09:20This took some time and some effort
09:22to lay out this line.
09:23Maybe this line has another purpose
09:25and it relates to another,
09:27as of yet, unknown discovery.
09:29So what I'm going to do
09:31is continue to confirm the line
09:32as far as I can walk.
09:33Okay.
09:34Thanks, Steve.
09:35Thanks, Steve.
09:36Good, let's dig.
09:37Look at that.
09:38There's a bunch of cobble here.
09:40I don't know if you can see it or not.
09:42It's just right here,
09:43and it's going that way.
09:44Yeah.
09:45More cobblestones
09:47found near the hand-hewn survey stakes?
09:50Is it possible that the team
09:52has indeed uncovered another section
09:54of the cobblestone pathway?
09:56If so, could it lead the team to a vault
10:00that still contains something
10:01of incredible value?
10:03It's almost like they're stacked.
10:05That's a spooner question.
10:07Yep.
10:08That's a spooner question.
10:10There certainly appears to be a structure
10:12in the north end of the bog,
10:14so I want Dr. Spooner to come
10:16and render an opinion about whether or not
10:18it is a man-made structure.
10:21It looks stacked, but I don't know.
10:24We have to follow this.
10:26There's no question about it.
10:27Yeah.
10:28I want to keep digging.
10:29Okay.
10:30Let's keep digging.
10:31Yep.
10:33The following morning,
10:35as the team from Rocky Equipment
10:37works to stabilize the ground
10:39around the TB1 caisson...
10:42We have in front of us several things
10:44that hopefully will make us true believers
10:46because they came out of TB1,
10:48True Believer 1.
10:49Marty Lagina, Craig Tester,
10:51and other members of the team
10:53join archaeologist Laird Niven
10:55and archaeometallurgist Emma Culligan
10:57in the Oka Lab
10:59And we have four of them right here.
11:01They are eager to hear Laird and Emma's
11:03scientific analysis of several nails
11:06that were recently unearthed
11:07from more than 100 feet deep
11:09in the TB1 shaft.
11:11I'll turn it over to Emma.
11:13Based on the composition
11:14and the X-ray characteristics,
11:16the first three nails
11:17I would put comfortably within
11:19early to mid-1800s,
11:21and there is a potential
11:22that it could be late 1700s.
11:24Okay.
11:26The last nail,
11:27I would actually date older
11:29and based on its X-ray behavior,
11:32possibly within mid-1700s
11:35to late 1700s.
11:37If you had two opine,
11:39these three are surger
11:41and that one might be pre-surger.
11:43So I'd say this has the most possibility
11:45of being pre-surger.
11:46Yeah.
11:48Because more than a dozen
11:49surger companies have constructed
11:51shafts over the past two centuries,
11:55in the area where the team
11:56is currently excavating TB1.
11:59It is not surprising
12:00that some artifacts will date
12:02to after the discovery
12:03of the money pit.
12:05However, could the team
12:06have also found a nail
12:08that was used by whomever
12:10buried the fabled chapel vault?
12:12Compositionally,
12:13they're all fairly similar.
12:14Could that mean
12:15that they're closer than ever
12:16to potentially recovering it?
12:19Thanks, Emma.
12:20You know, we're getting
12:21a lot of information
12:22and we brought this stuff up,
12:23so what's sitting down below
12:25in the loose clay area
12:27that could sink on down?
12:28Yeah.
12:29Well, let's get back
12:30and try and find something
12:31even better.
12:33Thank you all.
12:34Take care.
12:35Good luck.
12:36Later that afternoon...
12:39Hey, Marty.
12:40How deep are we?
12:41They're making progress,
12:42slow but steady.
12:43Marty Lagina returns
12:44to the money pit area
12:46after being informed
12:47that the process
12:48to stabilize the TB1 caisson
12:51appears to have been successful
12:52and the dig has now resumed.
12:55We got, I'd say,
12:5648 or 49 yards
12:57of crushed stone
12:58down in that hole.
13:00The nest is coming in.
13:02Where's the gold?
13:03Hey, gentlemen.
13:04So how are we doing?
13:05Well, we're doing better.
13:07We're doing better.
13:08So the water's definitely
13:09helping.
13:10Yeah, the water's
13:11doing its thing.
13:12We're dropping the tape
13:13down past my casing now.
13:14So right now,
13:15my dig depth of hold
13:16is at 164 and 6 inches.
13:19No plug.
13:20No plug.
13:21The so-called plug
13:23refers to the earth
13:24or spoils contained inside
13:26of the steel caissons.
13:28However, since Vanessa
13:30is reporting
13:31that there is no plug
13:32within TB1,
13:33that means it
13:35and any potential
13:36man-made objects
13:37have fallen
13:38to somewhere below.
13:40He is dropping it down
13:41and he's hitting something
13:42very hard all the way around.
13:44We think it's rock.
13:46Sure there's not a cave
13:47or a cavity?
13:48Pretty sure there is.
13:49This must be
13:50the solution channel.
13:51Yeah, we're on the ledge
13:52and we got a hole.
13:53The solution cavity
13:54or solution channel,
13:55we believe it's natural
13:56and it underlies
13:57a good bit of this.
13:58You're on the edge.
13:59That's why your plug
14:00is going down.
14:01So we could have
14:02collapsed into that,
14:03I suppose.
14:06During previous
14:07core drilling operations
14:08in the Money Pit area,
14:10the team has repeatedly
14:11encountered
14:12a low-level problem.
14:14The team has repeatedly
14:15encountered
14:16a large natural cavity
14:17that was created
14:18by flowing groundwater
14:19in the bedrock
14:20known as the
14:21solution channel
14:22between 160
14:24and 180 feet
14:25underground.
14:27If Marty and Terry
14:28are correct,
14:29then TB1
14:30has now entered
14:31the solution channel.
14:32Could that explain
14:33what caused the Earth
14:34to collapse
14:35around the shaft?
14:37And if so,
14:38could that also mean
14:39that the fabled
14:40chample vault
14:41has fallen into it?
14:43This hole, TB1,
14:45goes to the bottom
14:46of that solution channel.
14:47That could be the answer.
14:48That could be where
14:49this treasure resides
14:50at this point.
14:51So we need to get down
14:52in that solution channel.
14:53As we break through
14:54this shelf in the bedrock,
14:55we hope to get into the area
14:56where the treasure
14:57might have fallen to
14:58in the relative
14:59soft material.
15:00Yes.
15:01We're about ready
15:02to stack another can.
15:03We're going to add
15:04some more water
15:05and keep going down.
15:06Okay.
15:07All right.
15:08Thank you, Vanessa.
15:09I'll keep my fingers crossed.
15:10Coming up...
15:11It's a true mystery.
15:12You have a very
15:13unusual artifact.
15:14It shouldn't be
15:15where it was found.
15:16It demonstrates wealth.
15:17Somebody important
15:18was on Lock 5.
15:23While excavation
15:24of the TB1 shaft
15:25continues
15:26in the Money Pit area...
15:28It's going down
15:29pretty good.
15:30There you go.
15:32I think I will
15:33take it down
15:34a little more here
15:35where this is
15:36topsoil air.
15:37Okay.
15:38Okay.
15:39Landowner
15:40Tom Nolan
15:41and other members
15:42of the team
15:43are continuing
15:44to investigate
15:45an area
15:46where just one day ago
15:47they found
15:48large survey stakes.
15:49Yeah, it's great.
15:50As well as
15:51what appears to be
15:52a layer of
15:53possibly stacked
15:54cobblestones.
15:56Come on, Alex.
15:57I know you're here.
16:09Now I'm seeing
16:10this cobbled
16:11all through here.
16:15Is it me
16:16or does this look
16:17like the stone path?
16:18It certainly does.
16:19There's a very
16:20clear line.
16:21You can see
16:22the edge of the rocks
16:23before you hit
16:24that sea horizon
16:25right here.
16:26I noticed there
16:27was all these
16:28small stones.
16:29Some look like
16:30beach stone
16:31which are out
16:32of place in the swamp.
16:33All put
16:34tightly together.
16:35Very similar
16:36to the stone path
16:37on the south side
16:38of the bog.
16:40And it seemed
16:41to have some
16:42sort of shape.
16:43We've got a defined
16:44path.
16:45Yeah, it's
16:46very linear.
16:47So it shows
16:48that there was
16:49more work,
16:50more effort
16:51put into this area
16:52for some reason.
16:53It begins
16:54to make you wonder
16:55is it searcher
16:56or is it depositor?
16:57I'm going to call
16:58Dr. Spooner and Laird
16:59and get them to come
17:00and have a look at this.
17:01Yeah, I think we should
17:02because I mean
17:03they've looked
17:04at the other ones
17:05so see what
17:06they think of it.
17:07Yeah, we really
17:08should have a look.
17:10Later that day.
17:13We're trying to
17:14cut through this stuff.
17:15So hopefully we're
17:16through the rocks soon.
17:17Alright, well I'll go
17:18back to the station.
17:19Looks like you've
17:20got it handled here.
17:21In the money pit area
17:22the 7 foot diameter
17:23steel shaft
17:24known as TD1
17:25is approaching
17:26a depth
17:27of nearly 170 feet
17:28and it's reached
17:29the so-called
17:30solution channel.
17:33A massive natural
17:34void in the bedrock
17:35where the team hopes
17:36to encounter
17:37the fabled
17:39I was going to
17:40drag it around.
17:42Yeah, but
17:43not before I grab this.
17:44Alright.
17:46I got to see
17:47if this floats.
17:48Yeah, that's the
17:49first piece of wood
17:50I've seen in the
17:51last few years.
17:52Yeah, this could be old.
17:53Good bit.
17:54Good eye.
17:56Our mentor
17:57Dan Blankenship
17:58always believed
17:59that if you
18:00retrieved wood
18:01from depth
18:02and it sank
18:03it was older wood.
18:04If it floats
18:05it's modern.
18:09That sinks.
18:10If the team has
18:11indeed
18:12recovered a piece
18:13of wood
18:14nearly 170 feet
18:15deep
18:16that might predate
18:17the discovery
18:18of the money pit
18:19could it be a clue
18:20that the treasure vault
18:21is now also
18:22within their reach?
18:24A piece of wood
18:25came out of that
18:26last scoop.
18:27Just what we were
18:28hoping for.
18:29Just tested it
18:30and it doesn't float.
18:31It does not.
18:32It does not float.
18:33That's what we're
18:34looking for.
18:35Yeah, it could be
18:36what we're looking for.
18:38That's also real good.
18:39That would be near
18:40the center of the tree
18:41I would think.
18:42We get down to depth
18:43of about 170 feet
18:44and we find
18:45a piece of wood.
18:46And I feel that
18:47this piece of wood
18:48is deep enough
18:49it could only be depositor.
18:50If this was depositor
18:51we could have found
18:52what the chapel
18:53era searchers
18:54believed to be
18:55the treasure vault.
18:56Hey Terry,
18:57got some new numbers for you.
18:58Great, thank you.
18:59Depth of hole
19:00is 168 and 6 inches
19:01and our casing
19:02just broke through
19:03171.
19:04171 at the teeth.
19:05So this came out
19:06of the last scoop.
19:07That came from 168.
19:08What does this
19:09wood mean to you?
19:10If we found
19:11a bunch of it,
19:12remember nobody
19:13was down to 168.
19:14Nobody.
19:15Okay.
19:16So if we start
19:17finding a bunch of this
19:18we start to get
19:19pretty excited.
19:20Awesome.
19:21All right,
19:22we'll keep digging.
19:23Sounds good.
19:24As the excavation
19:25of TB1
19:26continues in the
19:27Muddy Pit area.
19:28Later that afternoon.
19:29Gentlemen.
19:30Hi guys.
19:31In the war room,
19:32Marty Lagina
19:33Craig Taster
19:34and other members
19:35of the Oak Island team
19:36meet via video conference
19:37with a renowned
19:38gemologist
19:39Jeffrey Bilgorn
19:40and John W. Ford Sr.,
19:41the CEO of the
19:42American Gem Trade Association.
19:43Welcome to the war room.
19:44Oh, thank you.
19:45Oh no way.
19:46Wow.
19:47John and Jeffrey
19:48have analyzed
19:49a glass gemstone
19:50that the team
19:51found two weeks ago
19:52near the mysterious
19:53rounded foundation
19:54on lot five.
19:55They found
19:56a piece of
19:57glass
19:58that had
19:59been used
20:00to make
20:01a foundation
20:02on lot five.
20:03A foundation
20:04where the team
20:05has not only
20:06uncovered
20:07man-made mortar
20:08that matches soils
20:09for more than
20:10100 feet deep
20:11in the Muddy Pit area,
20:12but where they have found
20:13a number of
20:14believed
20:15mid-18th century
20:16artifacts
20:17including
20:18this rare
20:19glass gemstone.
20:20Have you seen
20:21other stones
20:22like this?
20:23Yeah,
20:24I've seen other
20:25stones like this,
20:26but what is significant
20:27is the fact that
20:28it was found
20:29on an island
20:31So it's very interesting
20:32because the origin
20:33of the crystal
20:34is European in nature.
20:35It could be
20:36from England,
20:37France,
20:38Spain,
20:39Portugal,
20:40or Italy.
20:41The research shows
20:42it could have been
20:43made somewhere
20:44between 1730
20:45and 1775.
20:46Okay,
20:47that's what
20:48Laird and Bema
20:49also thought.
20:50What would be
20:51more traditional
20:52to use for
20:53something like this?
20:54It could have been
20:55from an object
20:56of adornment
20:57sewn onto
20:58a heavy fabric,
20:59or a type of
21:00coat.
21:01Certainly the size
21:02and the purity
21:03of the material
21:04is unusual.
21:05This is the size
21:06of, you know,
21:078 to 10 carat
21:08sapphire,
21:098 carat diamond,
21:10but it's definitely
21:11a simulant
21:12to look like
21:13a diamond,
21:14to look like you
21:15have something
21:16of great value.
21:17Okay,
21:18so somebody
21:19really important
21:20was on Lot 5.
21:21We've always thought
21:22that even if the
21:23money pit is simpler
21:24than we think,
21:25without any
21:26complex engineering,
21:27it still would take
21:28a team of men
21:29to do that.
21:30We always wondered,
21:31where was the encampment?
21:32Where were these people
21:33while they were
21:34doing this work?
21:35Well, maybe Lot 5
21:36is it.
21:37This little gem
21:38does indicate that
21:39somebody of
21:40means,
21:41wealth,
21:42influence,
21:43was almost certainly
21:44on Lot 5
21:45and on the island.
21:46The fact that it had
21:47tin around the edges,
21:48which is resistant
21:49to tarnishing,
21:50is quite significant
21:51because tin would be
21:52for more of
21:53a noble person.
21:54This is definitely
21:55not something
21:56worn by
21:57people in the
21:58late 1700s.
21:59This is more evidence
22:00that some
22:01very prominent
22:02person was
22:03on Oak Island
22:04pre-money pit.
22:05There's something
22:06else that
22:07we haven't found yet
22:08that this person
22:09of importance
22:10was watching over.
22:11Who was it?
22:12The fact that
22:13singular large size
22:14in the way it's
22:15faceted and cut,
22:16it demonstrates
22:17wealth,
22:18nobility,
22:19part of a
22:20military
22:21medal,
22:22possibly.
22:25That's great.
22:27Coming up...
22:28Welcome to
22:29another Big Question Mark.
22:30These big stones
22:31aren't all of the size
22:32that could be
22:33handled by people.
22:34My first thought
22:35would be that
22:36this was their path.
22:40It demonstrates
22:41wealth,
22:42nobility,
22:43part of a military
22:44medal,
22:45possibly.
22:46In the
22:47Oak Island War Room,
22:48gemology experts
22:49John W. Ford Sr.
22:51and Jeffrey Bilgore
22:52have just given
22:53their assessment
22:54that the glass
22:55jewel,
22:56recovered near
22:57the round feature
22:58on Lot 5,
22:59not only dates
23:00back to several
23:01decades before
23:02the discovery
23:03of the money bed,
23:04but likely belonged
23:05to someone
23:06of European
23:07nobility.
23:08Because it was
23:09made of tin,
23:10which is resistant
23:11to tarnishing,
23:12it might be something
23:13that would be on
23:14a naval officer
23:15because of
23:16being at sea
23:17and such.
23:21Thinking about
23:22the dates and
23:23some of the theories,
23:24Duke d'Anville
23:25was supposedly
23:26in the area
23:27in 1746,
23:28so that fits in
23:29with the date
23:30of the jewel.
23:31It's quite possible.
23:32Yeah.
23:33There you go.
23:36In 2017,
23:38Oak Island historian
23:40Doug Kroll
23:41discovered part
23:42of an 18th century
23:43ship's log
23:44detailing a vast
23:45treasure burial
23:46in the vicinity
23:47of Oak Island.
23:49The log
23:50was reportedly
23:51connected to the crew
23:52of the Duke d'Anville
23:53a French nobleman
23:54and admiral
23:55who led an
23:56unsuccessful attempt
23:57to reclaim
23:58Nova Scotia
23:59from England
24:00in September
24:01of 1746.
24:03It's always exciting
24:04to have a little
24:05artifact
24:06that could
24:07potentially mean
24:08so much.
24:09Is it possible
24:10that the team
24:11has discovered
24:12a critical clue
24:13of just who
24:14may have created
24:15the round feature
24:16on lot five?
24:17And perhaps,
24:18who lived
24:19amid 18th century
24:20nail deep
24:21in the money pit area?
24:22Lastly,
24:23might it answer
24:24the burning question
24:25of just who buried
24:26the fabled
24:27chapel vault?
24:28Those are intriguing
24:29thoughts.
24:30I mean it adds
24:31just one more
24:32artifact that's saying
24:33someone
24:34or a group of people
24:35of importance
24:36were on lot five
24:37and we gotta
24:38figure out why.
24:39And it also means
24:40that there could be
24:41a lot more out there
24:42and it's not gonna
24:43find itself
24:44so we're gonna get
24:45back in the field.
24:46Thank you very much.
24:47It's a pleasure.
24:48We're happy to be involved.
24:49Thanks guys.
24:50See you later.
24:51Later that afternoon,
24:52as the excavation
24:53of TB1 proceeds
24:54in the money pit area.
24:55There's more rock
24:56coming out.
24:57We're going through.
24:58Hey guys.
24:59Hey guys.
25:00Hey guys, how are you?
25:01Good.
25:02Welcome to another
25:03big question mark.
25:04Geoscientist
25:05Dr. Ian Spooner
25:06joins other members
25:07of the team
25:08in the northern region
25:09of the swamp.
25:10What do you think?
25:11There's a pretty
25:12clear defined
25:13clue
25:14of who
25:15may have
25:16created
25:17the round feature
25:18on lot five.
25:19There's a pretty
25:20clear defined
25:21side over there
25:22and the same over here.
25:24It is the team's hope
25:25that Dr. Spooner
25:26will be able
25:27to verify
25:28that the cobblestone
25:29feature
25:30they uncovered
25:31one day ago
25:32is part
25:33of a man-made pathway.
25:35There was a couple
25:36of shapes
25:37and stakes
25:38found down there
25:39right beside of it.
25:40How big?
25:41About this big.
25:43The thing that always
25:44gets me interested
25:45in these features
25:46having looked at them
25:47for the last three years
25:48is the size
25:49that could be
25:50handled by people.
25:51This was their path?
25:53It's kind of
25:54almost to the edge.
25:55Again, we only have
25:56a small section
25:57of it uncovered.
25:58On the south side
25:59of the cobblestone path
26:00it was cleared
26:01archaeologically
26:02so you could see
26:03the structure clearly.
26:04Well, let's cut a section
26:05then.
26:06Why not?
26:07I'm fine with that.
26:09I'm thinking of this
26:10as a really targeted
26:11way to apply
26:12our archaeological
26:13resources
26:14to the challenge
26:15of the swamp
26:16and we can
26:17fully apply
26:18the results that we get
26:19to any of these
26:20other features
26:21in the swamp.
26:22Alright, with that
26:23I'm actually going to
26:24put the information
26:25I have back to the
26:26research center
26:27and see where it
26:28points to.
26:29Let us know what
26:30you come up with.
26:31We will.
26:32Alright, thanks guys.
26:33See you later.
26:34The following morning
26:35I applaud everyone
26:36for having
26:37real belief
26:38in the work
26:39in the swamp
26:40that we have done
26:41to date.
26:42Before heading back out
26:43to the Money Pit area
26:44Rick, Marty, Craig
26:46and other members
26:47of the team
26:48are meeting
26:49with surveyor
26:50Steve Guptill
26:51in the war room.
26:52I think the swamp
26:53is able to understand
26:54this incredibly
26:55complex mystery
26:56and it becomes
26:57more complex
26:58by the day.
26:59After inputting
27:00the new data
27:01regarding the
27:02wooden stakes
27:03and various sections
27:04of the cobblestone
27:05pathway
27:06that have been
27:07recently found
27:08in the swamp
27:09Steve has created
27:10a digital survey
27:11that also includes
27:12other man-made
27:13features the team
27:14has uncovered
27:16during the past
27:17several years.
27:18Steve, I think
27:19it's up to you
27:20to explain
27:21what we found
27:22and what it might mean.
27:23Let's start with
27:24the survey lines.
27:25I believe it was
27:26you who found
27:27on Fred's plans
27:28a line of survey stakes.
27:29This is probably
27:302018.
27:31We dug this line here
27:32and we found
27:33three stakes.
27:34Yeah, that's right.
27:35Yeah, I remember
27:36yesterday.
27:37Sure.
27:38Then we go into yesterday.
27:39I tagged
27:40three of these
27:41survey stakes.
27:42As you can see
27:43almost perfectly
27:44a straight line
27:45north and south.
27:46These things
27:47were put down
27:48for a reason.
27:49It is consistent
27:50with a surveying use.
27:51100%.
27:53Well, if they are
27:54reference points
27:55for something
27:56it's definitely
27:57some construction site.
27:58So that segues
27:59well into
28:00the cobble path.
28:01Here's the cobble
28:02we found yesterday.
28:03There's the three stakes
28:04that we've surveyed
28:05that land on the
28:06survey line.
28:07Right.
28:08So we project that back.
28:09It looks like
28:10it relates to
28:11the cobble path
28:12that comes off
28:13the stone road
28:14and heads west.
28:15The pathway
28:16seems to be connected
28:17to everything
28:18that we find.
28:19If we continue
28:20westward
28:21or northwestward
28:22we come into
28:23the eye
28:24we come into
28:25this wooden platform
28:26we found this year.
28:27Okay.
28:28So another area
28:29that this projects to
28:30is the cobble
28:31found next to the vault
28:32that cuts
28:33straight with the bricks.
28:34Oh, are we?
28:35So at this stage
28:36it seems that
28:37all these features
28:38are loosely
28:39connected in time
28:40and that time period
28:41is from the
28:42late 1600s
28:43to the mid 1700s
28:44and that's
28:45well before
28:46the searchers
28:47and in my opinion
28:48wasn't farmers
28:49it wasn't fishermen.
28:51Based upon the dates
28:53it's similar to
28:54some of the dates
28:55we're getting from
28:56the Lot 5 feature.
28:57Yeah, yeah.
28:58I'm thinking that
28:59there's a connection
29:00to the money pit
29:01to the swamp
29:02in Lot 5
29:03that they were doing
29:04work around
29:05the whole island.
29:06That's pretty cool.
29:07Coming up.
29:08So I don't like now
29:09that it's going back
29:10under the train.
29:11This collapse
29:12is just not stopping.
29:13And there will become
29:14a safety component
29:15if it gets too far
29:16under the train
29:17that we just
29:18all stop.
29:20Based upon those dates
29:21I'm thinking that
29:22there's a connection
29:23to the money pit
29:24to the swamp
29:25in Lot 5
29:26and that they were
29:27doing work around
29:28the whole island.
29:29In the Oak Island
29:30War Room
29:31Surveyor Steve Guptill
29:32has just presented
29:33the team with data
29:34leading them to believe
29:36that the cobblestone pathway
29:38which the team
29:39has unearthed
29:40throughout the swamp
29:41could be connected
29:42not only
29:43to the various
29:44man-made features
29:45they've discovered
29:46such as the empty
29:47vault-like structure
29:48but may also
29:49have been created
29:50to serve as a direct link
29:52between Lot 5
29:53and the money pit.
29:56I think this is good
29:57because when we first
29:58found this cobble
29:59in our northern dig
30:00we suspected
30:01okay maybe this is
30:02the connection
30:03between the cobble path
30:04and Lot 5.
30:05Yep.
30:06So we have a pretty
30:07targeted area here
30:08where we can keep digging
30:09and try to establish
30:10that connection.
30:11If you were to project
30:12the line further
30:13to the northwest
30:14it could go to Lot 5.
30:16Cool.
30:18Could Steve's findings
30:20help prove the team's
30:21previous suspicion
30:22that the stone foundation
30:24on Lot 5
30:25served as a staging ground
30:27for an operation
30:28to hide one
30:29or more treasure vaults
30:30in the money pit
30:31and perhaps
30:32also
30:33in the swamp?
30:34I mean at this point
30:35I think
30:36we have so many
30:371700 dates
30:38that if whatever
30:39was going on
30:40in Lot 5
30:41was going on
30:42in the swamp
30:43was whatever
30:44was going on
30:45in the money pit.
30:46I mean we just find
30:47the dates everywhere.
30:481600, 1700
30:49seem to be the most
30:50consistent date
30:51we find island wide
30:52and so whatever
30:53was going on
30:54on the island
30:55I think we can start
30:56to piece it together
30:57that the major part
30:58of the construction
30:59on Oak Island
31:00was 1680 to 1750.
31:01Yeah.
31:02Yeah.
31:03It is an enormous
31:04undertaking
31:05if these cobble features
31:06are connected in time.
31:07Obviously there was
31:08an intent.
31:09There was a purpose
31:10and possibly
31:11an association
31:12with the
31:13Doug Donneville expedition
31:14but there's still
31:15a lot of puzzles
31:16put together here
31:17so the work
31:18needs to continue.
31:20There's now
31:21this belief
31:22and I hope
31:23it is a well
31:24and truly
31:25an established belief
31:26at this point
31:27that it is
31:28literally
31:29an island wide mystery
31:31and that's how
31:32we need to
31:33look at this
31:34and we have to
31:35do activities
31:36that are insular
31:37from each other
31:38meaning the activities
31:39in the money pit
31:40the activities
31:41on lot five
31:42the activities
31:43on the eastern drum
31:44the activities
31:45in the bar
31:46at some point
31:47they will melt
31:48they will come together.
31:49Nice report Steve.
31:50Well done.
31:51Thanks guys.
31:52Now let's keep going.
31:54Shortly after
31:55concluding their meeting
31:57I just don't know
31:58where it's going
31:59but it's going somewhere.
32:00So I don't like now
32:01that it's going back
32:02under the crane.
32:03Right?
32:04This collapse
32:06Rick
32:07Marty
32:08and Alex Lagina
32:09have rushed back
32:10to the money pit area
32:11after being alerted
32:12that the earth
32:13surrounding the TV1 shaft
32:15has once again
32:16started to cave in.
32:18Grab another scoop of dirt
32:19we need to try to
32:20get more in that back hole
32:21it's like
32:22three feet low
32:23on the back side.
32:24The solution channel
32:25which underlies
32:26a good portion of this
32:27which is a natural
32:28cave lake structure
32:29is more liquid
32:30than we thought.
32:32The dig actually
32:33went to 179
32:34the teeth are just
32:35above that
32:36so we're even digging
32:37below the teeth.
32:38After first
32:39encountering evidence
32:40that TV1
32:41was descending
32:42into a massive
32:43natural void
32:44or solution channel
32:45at a depth
32:46of nearly 165 feet
32:48the team has now
32:49discovered
32:50that the cavity
32:51in the bedrock
32:52which may also now
32:53contain the fabled
32:54channel vault
32:55reaches depths
32:56of more than
32:57200 feet
32:58underground.
33:00We're caving in
33:01constantly
33:02so they're getting
33:03it from a safety
33:04standpoint.
33:05And even more
33:06concerning
33:07is that it is causing
33:08the soils beneath
33:09the TV1 shaft
33:10and hundreds of tons
33:11of heavy equipment
33:12to give way.
33:14Every what
33:1530-40 minutes
33:16we're stopping to
33:17try to mitigate
33:18the collapsing
33:19but now it's starting
33:20to creep back
33:21under the frame.
33:25It's leading
33:26towards sudden collapse?
33:27Yeah.
33:28We're gonna
33:29obliterate this place.
33:31That's not good.
33:35I'm a safety component
33:36if it gets too far
33:37under the frame
33:38then we just
33:39all stop.
