Business activities along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur came to an abrupt halt following severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall on Wednesday (March 12) afternoon.

The sudden downpour, accompanied by strong winds, caused significant damage to the market area as multiple vendor tents collapsed onto stalls, damaging merchandise and equipment.

00:13The sudden downpour, accompanied by strong winds,
00:17caused significant damage to the market area
00:19as multiple vendor tents collapsed onto stalls, damaging merchandise and equipment.
00:26Traders were also forced to halt business operations
00:29due to heavy rain and strong winds at 3pm.
00:32Some of them attributed the extensive damage
00:35to poor tent arrangement and set-up at the bazaar,
00:38suggesting that a more appropriate layout
00:41might have prevented some of the destruction caused by the storm.
00:45Meanwhile, Rapid Rail Sendirian Berhad,
00:48the operator of the Light Rail Transit Service,
00:51confirmed that a wall panel at Masjid Jamek station collapsed
00:55during a storm at 4.04pm.
00:58In a statement, Rapid Rail assured that the incident
01:01did not result in any casualties or major structural damage to the station.
01:06Train services and station operations remain unaffected,
01:10allowing passengers to continue their journeys as usual.
01:14A special committee has been established
01:17to investigate the cause of the incident in detail
01:20to ensure the safety of Masjid Jamek station structure.
