00:00One U.S. state is taking action against additives that might be in some of your favorite foods.
00:06The truth is, when we eat, we aren't 100% aware of what exactly we're putting in our bodies.
00:11But we have Consumer Reports and Environmental Working Group to thank,
00:15because these two joined forces to advocate for a bill, the California Food Safety Act,
00:20to ban several chemicals from being used as additives in any food items or drinks sold in the Golden State.
00:27Monitox News reports the bill passed the state legislature and will become state law,
00:32which will go into effect in 2027.
00:35The substances soon to be prohibited from use in food and drinks in California are
00:40Red Dye No. 3, Brominated Vegetable Oil, commonly used in sports drinks and sodas,
00:46Potassium Bromate, found in packaged breads and frozen foods,
00:50and Propylparaben, used as a preservative to extend the shelf life of packaged foods
00:55by helping prevent mold and bacteria from growing.
00:58It's important to know all four have been banned as food additives in Europe
01:03and have health risks associated with cancer, problems with several vital organs,
01:08reproductive issues and behavioral issues.
