00:00Defence ministers from five major military European powers, France, Germany, Italy, Poland
00:14and Britain met on Wednesday in Paris to discuss a new security framework for Ukraine as a
00:21response to the rapprochement between the US and Russia.
00:25This meeting came a day after 34 military chiefs from NATO countries as well as Japan
00:31and Australia met in the French capital in rare and confidential talks without their
00:39US counterparts.
00:40French Defence Minister Sébastien Lecornu said during a press conference on Wednesday
00:46evening that at this stage, 15 countries are interested in continuing this process of developing
00:53this new security framework.
00:56France and Britain have been leading the charge to try to shore up as much support as possible
01:02for Ukraine since the US have started to pull back.
01:06Lecornu also announced that a new meeting will be held in two weeks with more defence
01:12ministers and without the US present in order to come up with more concrete proposals on
01:19security guarantees in Ukraine.
