00:07Good afternoon.

00:11Thank you all for being here.

00:12Thank you to Chair Aguilar, Vice Chair Liu for convening us for the important conversations

00:17that will ensue over the next two days, and of course to Leader Jeffries, Whip Clark,

00:21and Chairwoman DelBene for their incredible leadership over the course of these last several

00:25years.

00:27There's a headline that I came across this morning that I think so well encapsulates

00:32the chaos and the dysfunction that we are living through and the precarious moment that

00:37we find ourselves in.

00:38From CBS News, and the headline is this, Lutnick says Trump's policies are, quote, worth it,

00:45even if they lead to a recession.

00:48The Lutnick, of course, that this article is referring to, is President Trump's Commerce

00:52Secretary.

00:53Think about that for a second.

00:55That in his view, these reckless economic policies are worth it, even if they cause

01:01a recession.

01:02And it appears they will get their wish.

01:04As you heard Vice Chair Liu, Chair Aguilar, Leader Jeffries, Whip Clark, Chairwoman DelBene

01:09describe the economic havoc that President Trump and his administration have created

01:14over just the course of these last seven weeks.

01:17Stock market crashing, job losses piling up, 401ks vanishing, the prices for everyday goods

01:25going up across the board, federal workers, folks at the Forest Service, wildland firefighters

01:31in my district back home in Colorado purged from the federal government, agencies being

01:36dismantled.

01:37All of this has real world consequences for the people that we are also privileged to

01:43serve here in the United States Congress.

01:46The time for the Trump administration to abandon these reckless policies is now.

01:52They warrant a decisive, comprehensive response from House Democrats, which is precisely what

01:58we've done for the better part of the last seven weeks, and we look forward to having

02:02more discussions on our response in the days ahead.
