Vadodara, Gujarat – A road accident on Wednesday morning exposed the persistent issue of illegal liquor trade in Gujarat, where prohibition laws remain in force. A car transporting liquor overturned on the national highway near L&T Knowledge City after being hit by a speeding truck, spilling bottles onto the road.

Instead of aiding the injured driver, bystanders rushed to collect the scattered liquor bottles, creating a chaotic scene. Videos of the incident, showing people looting the liquor instead of offering assistance, quickly went viral on social media.

The truck driver fled the scene, while the car’s driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. Authorities have since arrested two individuals, Ishwar Jadhav and Kamla Patel, for their involvement in the looting. An investigation is underway to trace the source and intended recipient of the illegal liquor.

The incident has reignited concerns over Gujarat’s thriving underground liquor trade, especially with festivals like Holi approaching, when demand for alcohol tends to rise despite the state’s strict prohibition laws.
