Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh: Nine suspects have been arrested after a female Sub-Inspector (SI), B. Devi, was assaulted by a group of intoxicated youths during a local fair in Vizianagaram on Tuesday. The miscreants, reportedly under the influence of marijuana, were caught on camera pulling her hair and verbally abusing her.
A video of the attack, which has gone viral on social media, shows the on-duty officer being manhandled. She sustained minor injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The incident which happened during the Venugopala Swamy Jathara in Gudivada village of Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh on March 11, came to light on Thursday, March 13.
Incident Unfolded During Fair’s Dance Event:
According to reports, a ‘Dance Baby Dance’ program was organized as part of the fair, where some youths misbehaved with female performers on stage. SI Devi, who was on duty, intervened to control the situation, but the drunken group turned on her, attacking her in the process.
Police Crack Down on Accused Hiding in YSRCP Leader’s House:
Following the incident, a special police team was formed to track down the accused. Investigations revealed that the attackers were hiding in the house of a YSRCP youth leader. The police successfully arrested nine suspects, while one accused remains on the run. Efforts are underway to nab the absconding suspect.
