00:00Let's talk about the tonal pattern when you're the one who's reporting.
00:11Is that required?
00:13There's a tone, right?
00:15Where does that come from?
00:17Tito Boy, I joined GMA at a time when Mike Enriquez was a novelty.
00:23Right.
00:24May he rest in peace.
00:25The staccato style that's fast.
00:28It's different.
00:30And it really clicks with the person.
00:34And I remember being told,
00:36you have to sound in a certain way.
00:39Tonog Mike Enriquez.
00:41A bit fast, a bit of a sense of urgency.
00:44It's not like you're imitating yourself,
00:46but you have a sense of urgency and a bit of strength.
00:49Okay.
00:50So, starting out 25 years ago,
00:54I had to read aloud tabloids.
00:57I had to practice because as a reporter,
01:00I have a strong point.
01:02So, I had to practice.
01:04I would buy a tabloid and read it out loud.
01:06Practice, practice, practice.
01:08Until I imbibed the tone that you're talking about.
01:13Right.
01:14That's distinct from the reporters.
01:16What about you, Pia?
01:17I think by assimilation, Tito Boy.
01:19Because what you hear every day,
01:21and you sort of pick it up.
01:23Similar to Ivan,
01:24I remember when I first started,
01:26the first voice-over story that I had,
01:28my coverage was a police story.
01:30Then I really called my mom,
01:32let's wait for the news tonight.
01:34Because my news was already airing.
01:36So, of course, my mom called the whole barangay.
01:38We were all waiting.
01:39Then when it aired, I wasn't the one voicing.
01:41I wasn't the voice.
01:42I was like, oh no, did I say something wrong?
01:44And then the next day,
01:45I was told very nicely.
01:47Very nicely, I have to clarify that.
01:49Very nicely.
01:51Kasi parang masyadong mabait,
01:53malambot yung boses na
01:55taginami ko sa pagvoice.
01:57And sometimes I think I still fall back to that somehow.
01:59But with, I don't know, I guess with age,
02:03maybe it also comes with age,
02:05lumalalim na rin siguro yung boses ko.
02:07I remember si Tita Mel, a few months ago,
02:09sabi niya sakin,
02:10Pia, parang lumalalim yung boses mo.
02:12I was like, thank you, Tita Mel.
02:14Kasi parang kailangan talagang matuto ka
02:16na galing siya dito sa diaphragm.
02:19Parang singer lang diba, Tita Bay?
02:21Kasi hindi na masestrain ka rin.
02:22Mga nakakatawa,
02:24you're not afraid to laugh.
02:25Halimbawa, if you're reporting on something
02:27that's entertaining,
02:29that's okay.
02:30Hindi pa naman kayo namimimuhan.
02:32Huwag kayong tatawa.
02:34Dati sa, again, unang hirit,
02:36sasadyain talaga nila,
02:38teleprompter mo,
02:39uupo siya dyan,
02:40and then make faces.
02:42Sino yan?
02:43Ayan ang kusilyo.
02:44Ah, okay.
02:45Sa labahayan.
02:46Sisirahin talagang diskartin popero.
03:46Salaam.
04:16.
