00:00What happened in qualifying for the Australian
00:08Pre
00:16What an alarm to set to then watch a Williams and
00:21A racing ball go faster than your favorite team. Tell me how are you feeling sir?
00:26I bet you're feeling quite good considering
00:29Mr. Stappan was supposed to go out in in q1
00:32Yes, as we learned from our predictions of putting him first in the the championship
00:38Red Bull have finished and they were gonna be nowhere and I think the stuff was gonna finish like ninth in the championship according to
00:44Most people but he was there
00:46although
00:47Looking very dominant from one team, which we'll get into we will let's get into q1 first though
00:52Where the five drivers out were Antonelli Hulkenberg Lawson Ocon and Behrman now
00:58That is a fruity q1 exit group there
01:02We'll begin with a question from p1 patreon member lozzy dog. Did Red Bull hire the wrong driver?
01:09I'm not going to categorically say yes or no on this one because it's the first qualifying session of the year
01:14but that's now four drivers that have gone into that second seat and
01:18Struggled
01:19Immensely now, of course Lawson is in his first race with Red Bull. So perhaps he'll build perhaps he'll learn
01:26But the thing is Lawson again, it was a prospective talent last year
01:31Stepped in did a decent job up against Sonoda and he comes into this and he's knocked out in q1 like
01:40Red Bull. What are you doing with that car? Like what is Max Verstappen's driving style? It's ridiculous
01:47It's a common trend it this happened with four drivers now with four very different kind of
01:54Trajectories and experience and things like that. So it can't just be a coincidence
01:59it's clear that there's something so difficult to drive with that car because it's happening to
02:05everyone now and
02:06And it is just the way Red Bull go about their racing
02:09the car is all set up to max of getting the maximum out of it for him to win the the drivers championship and
02:16That's just how they're they're going racing. Yeah, we're not gonna be too harsh on Lawson. Let's see how he gets on in the first few races
02:23But it's it's not looking great
02:26The pain train o7 comes in with will helmet Marco ever learn to shut his mouth
02:33Wow, that is that is
02:35Straight to the point
02:36of course
02:37This is referencing helmet Marco saying that Bortoletto is a b-tier driver and that Jack Dewan is a c-tier driver and yet his
02:45A-tier driver was knocked out in q1 and Antonelli was also seen as an a-tier driver. We'll get on to him, but
02:52Yeah, how about Marco does not?
02:55Mince his words at all. He has no filter whatsoever
02:58I love the fact that Bortoletto clapped back a little bit and said that
03:03Something around that is the drivers just fat seem to fail when they go to Red Bull. But yeah
03:09Yeah, exactly
03:11And and yeah Bortoletto did a great job Dewan I would say did a pretty great job it's
03:17Yeah, something that we shouldn't shouldn't always think that helmet Marco knows everything
03:21Yes is come to bite him that that comment because they had Bortoletto was
03:27fantastic and and doing
03:29Doing as well, you know, both of them put in in great performances a very kind of mixed bag from the the rookies this year
03:37So far with with that first session, so, of course, let's now just quickly touch on touch upon Antonelli being knocked out
03:44He of course broke something on the car. I believe after going wide but but still knocked out in q1
03:51Not the best considering a certain someone on this podcast predicted that he would out qualify George Russell and then Behrman
03:58Who I have clearly put one of the most almighty jinxes on possible for the first round of the season after
04:05Naming him my biggest good surprise of the entire year
04:09With the fact that he beached it in fp3
04:13Immediately after going out and then his car was broken in q1. So Behrman has had quite possibly the worst start
04:20To his has career. Yeah
04:23poor poor start for
04:25for Behrman a mix of kind of well mainly errors, but then the bad luck as well with the gearbox and
04:33But if I must talk about
04:35Antonelli shocking start for him. It is a difficult track to sort of go into
04:41where mistakes are punished and he is absolutely kind of
04:46Doing what I expected of him over driving the car, but maybe around a track like Albert Park
04:51That's not the way to go
04:53You know if it's Bahrain or something where you can because it because he showed in in fp3
04:58I know it's only fp3, but he did a pretty decent time
05:00I think it was up in fifth. Here we go. Tell me rolling out the fp3 times. He's got it in him
05:10For free practice, I'm emotionally vulnerable. That's that's that was a low blow. That was a real low blow
05:18That's ridiculous for you. Anyway, let's hurry up and get to Ferrari
05:22Okay
05:25Let's go to q2 the five drivers out were Hadjar Alonso stroll doing and
05:32Bortoletto question comes in from p1 patreon member Sophie does Bortoletto deserve a better car. He he
05:39Mastered that green wheelie bin beautifully did Bortoletto out qualifying Hulkenberg is no mean feat
05:45It has to be said so big shout out to Bortoletto for that
05:50Does he deserve a better car? Let's just wait and see guys
05:52I know we're all very excited to come to conclusions after the first qualifying session of the year, but
05:59Yeah, he does put him in the rebel
06:01It was a brilliant performance. Yeah, I think
06:04I'm very surprised at the the comments of helmet Marco and how much underplayed
06:10Bortoletto's been and because he did win the the f2 title as a rookie and you know that there's no mean feat
06:17He's done a very very good job and for whatever reason didn't seem to have much hype around him
06:23He was a McLaren jr. And we know that McLaren know a thing or two about good drivers
06:30So, yeah
06:31that a very very
06:33Solid job so far, but let's wait and see if he can continue it for the rest of the year q3
06:38And the top 10 was Norris piastri Verstappen Russell Sonoda Albon
06:43Leclerc Hansen Gasly signs at Ross Bella 16 is the championship already?
06:50Over it's looking ominous from a dry
06:55qualifying perspective McLaren are
06:58Miles ahead I'm gonna say it they are miles ahead in the dry that we saw that that the way they pieced together that last
07:04sector was
07:06Unbelievable now
07:08Whether it is just the fact that we had quite high temperatures and some of the team struggled in that last sector Ferrari and
07:15McLaren didn't that might well have been the difference, right?
07:18So because it was a market difference in that last sector between McLaren and everybody else
07:24But then again, this is the first race of the season
07:27Drive at their teams like Ferrari. They've come with a whole brand new car
07:31Which might be a question mark we ask in the middle of the season of did you really need to change a lot of things?
07:36Going into this year
07:38Because then you have to learn this new package
07:40Do you have enough time to learn the new package and then win races and win the championship and then go into 2026 with the?
07:45Regulations. Sorry. I lost my lost my
07:48Mind a little bit there, but it is looking very good for McLaren if you're a McLaren fan
07:53for sure
07:54They are the favorites and they have delivered but it did take them the final lap to do it
08:00It's gonna be a case of can McLaren deliver under the pressure of having
08:05Comfortably the best car and particularly at the start of the year. I don't think you know, they've both been under playing it
08:13About how quick their car is. They look very very very quick very ominous
08:20with how quick they were in that that final sector because my word I
08:25Remember thinking after that after that second run going no way
08:29Are we actually gonna get McLaren looking it looked like they were gonna be fourth and tenth
08:34They were Oscar made a mistake while they were. Yeah, they need to not make
08:39As many mistakes and well, do they work together?
08:43How are they gonna how they gonna do it with max behind a question from p1 patreon member Alan ender pay will McLaren use?
08:49papaya rules to try to win against max
08:53No
08:54This is the dilemma at McLaren
08:57Papaya rules and Zach Brown has already been asked about this is essentially race hard
09:03But respect your teammate and give them a bit of room. That is
09:09the grayest area I've ever seen if Oscar piastri gets a sniff on
09:16Lap one he has taken it and he does not care because he wants to win the World Championship. So for me going into tomorrow
09:24Slippery conditions are what is expected
09:27Some some people have been throwing it's gonna be a wet-to-dry race. I mean sign me up. That's the case
09:35But for me if that is the case
09:38Max is the favorite that's gonna be a battle between the two McLaren's of basically stamping their authority of who is gonna be
09:44The number one going in into this year. So that's a huge thing. Oscar's gonna want to win his home race as well
09:50There's no way Oscar piastri is not going for it on that that first lap and yeah max as well
09:56Even though he's so far off
09:58Those McLaren's in the dry conditions
10:00we know how good he is in the wet and he's got the luxury of not you know the luxury of his teammate being an
10:0618th and completely out the way and he can just focus on his own
10:11As much as you try and pay it might be if Lawson's getting laps on lap two and he blocks
10:16Wow lap two is crazy
10:19P1 page remember Tim tomato. Oh wait, what happened with Ferrari?
10:26Big wet setup one of the biggest wet setups you've ever seen on the car
10:31It's why they're overheating that they want to have that good tire temperature for tomorrow
10:36so I
10:37Think Fred's cooking here seventh and eighth. That's where you want to be
10:41Top six. We're all gonna be the slipstream from Melbourne. We know he's quick on the straights. Yep
10:45Yeah, for sure album
10:48Yeah, that's that's that's what I expected to be talking about was a Williams and a racing ball being
10:53ahead of both both Ferraris shall I think actually
10:58Abandoned his last lap as well, which doesn't help things by any stretch of the imagination
11:03And for them to be that far back when I am still convinced that Lando and Oscar held back slightly to make sure they got
11:09in a good lap
11:11is
11:12quite frankly
11:14mortifying so
11:16What happened with Ferraris that were built from here?
11:18They created a whole new car and they clearly don't know how to make it work in the final sector without the tires overheating
11:26Although it was an excessively hot day
11:28Give me 15 degree temperatures Ferrari back. Thank you. It's too early. It's too early to say but
11:34I will say anyway and do the knee-jerk reaction of I told you say why have they got a new car?
11:39They're gonna focus on 2026 Ferrari in the bin P4 and the constructors
11:44Well, what else to be said Wow way to beat a man when he's down
11:49Not in a good anyway
11:54Next question from P1 page remember chill out when will you keep get the respect he deserves for a red bull seat?
12:01Or is he better off without one Yuki Sonoda p5?
12:05both himself and Alex Albon Wow
12:09Phenomenal performances
12:11You know beating their respective teammates
12:14Quite comprehensively and even yeah that goes for even Carlos signs down intense sadly for him, but but back to Yuki
12:22We kind of say I don't think he wants it
12:25Well, he might want it because there is that allure of all the Red Bull seat. That's why I've been working for the whole time
12:32But it just puts him in a situation where Red Bull shouldn't be his only option moving forward
12:38He's continuously improving season on season by the looks of things. Hopefully he puts in another
12:44decent 2025 campaign
12:46But yeah, he's kind of filling up his CV ready for two three years time
12:50Maybe when seats start to become available again, but yeah, what a performance from Yuki
12:55you've got to say that if he keeps doing performances like that throughout the year he will
12:59People will take note
13:01From the other teams of going well, this is a guy that you know
13:05We should be signing but the problem is you've got to think that
13:08So many of the teams made made their kind of moves and locked in
13:13for the kind of 2026 regulations
13:16So it kind of is probably all going to come down to whether Lawrence roll kicks out his own son
13:22And the Honda deal works with Aston Martin and then Yuki snowed air in the Adrian Nui car
13:31with alongside Fernando Alonso
13:34Dominates the championship and they both win every single race next question p1 page
13:39Remember Luka cozy are Williams a genuine midfield team now, or are they just good at high-speed circuits?
13:45the James Vowles master plan is
13:49Unfolding before our very eyes. He's ripped up everything all the old rubbish putting in new stuff
13:56he said it's a five-year plan or however many years he said and
14:00The Williams is good around circuits that because you can't call
14:06Australia similar to Monza. I know that of course we have a lot of DRS. I think it's for DRS zones around here
14:11It is quite quick
14:13But there are still some very fast corners that require a lot of downforce as well that fast left right in the middle sector
14:20For example, so it's not just a go in a straight line heavy break. We're all good
14:24But it's a very promising start for Williams. It's a very very very promising start for Williams for them to but to be
14:33Comfortably kind of into that
14:37Q3 session and then Albon did an unbelievable job to be
14:42P6 Carlos gonna be disappointed to be down in p10 based on
14:47How he's kind of looked in that car. Yeah, great great job from from Williams. They can be
14:53really happy and
14:55Maybe Carlos moving to Williams
14:58Might just be racing the Ferraris after all and you can wave to his former team as he flies past him in the DRS zone
15:06So big shout out to Albon that was a phenomenal performance from him considering
15:11You know the expectation coming into this year Albon's finally got a teammate. That's decent
15:15we ourselves both of us predicted signs to be to do better across the season and Albon has has clapped back and
15:23put in a p6 performance, so
15:25only
15:27positive sentiments and
15:29Huge congrats to Albon for that performance that sums it up. We're done qualifying done and dusted
15:36So anyway, thank you everybody. Tell me what your final thoughts
15:39Final thoughts. I'm so glad the race is set up beautifully for the 3m start because then I will be wide awake
15:48hopefully and based on the hype because
15:51Qualifying generally my heart was like racing. It was so so good to watch and I've I've missed f1
15:57Massively, so big hype going into tomorrow. Thank you everybody
16:00I'm gonna go weep in a corner and
16:03We will see you tomorrow be live on Twitch and YouTube if you want to come and watch along the race with us
16:08It's gonna be a disastrously early start. But uh, just think what the China sprinter to 30 a.m
16:14So we'll look forward to that. Thank you. Everybody. We'll see you very soon. Lots of love. Take care. Bye
16:21You
