00:00access to cyberspace and its unlimited destinations and opportunities for
00:05learning and growth has just been boosted by government's latest efforts
00:10to build in connectivity throughout the country. Best of all, this inestimable
00:15entitlement that reaches to the most remote places of the archipelago is free
00:20of charge as our Claisel Partilia reports.
00:25The administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is set to broaden
00:31delivery of free internet access. The government is prioritizing expanding
00:37free internet coverage in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas or the
00:43most remote locations in the country. On the president's meeting with the
00:48Regional Development Council, the government has established a new system
00:52to improve internet connectivity. This includes the construction of common
00:58towers where a single tower is shared by two or more internet service providers
01:03through leasing agreements. The government is also adopting a new
01:07internet satellite system. With the help of a satellite dish, users can access the
01:13internet without the need for extensive infrastructure. According to Malacanang,
01:19this initiative is crucial in enhancing public capacity, particularly in
01:24education and livelihood. Using internet is not just a luxury, it's a necessity. So
01:32with this, if we can improve the access of all the Filipino peoples to internet
01:38so that they can at least research, make good use of this internet, it will
01:46definitely improve the livelihood, not only the livelihood, even the intellectual
01:51capacity of every Filipino. From 4,469 locations in June 2022, the number of
01:58areas with free Wi-Fi has increased to 15,000 as of January 2025. This expansion
02:06is also expected to accelerate government services, especially as business permits
02:11and other documents can now be processed online. The government is also
02:16addressing other essential needs of Filipinos.
02:20The Department of Energy earlier announced that 25 power projects are set to be
02:46in the Visayas, which will generate 1,900 megawatts of electricity, enough to power
02:54over 6 million households.
