00:00The majority of the population doesn't know the real reality.
00:04There are big lumberjacks who are removing wood today in the forest.
00:18The agribusiness that is entering our territories,
00:23planting soybeans, removing mining, wanting to exploit the gas from the atmosphere.
00:33And one of the biggest dangers is this bill that is being processed in the National Congress, now in Brazil.
00:40The government is putting new bills,
00:45that is, to remove the right of indigenous peoples within the federal constitution
00:50and, again, to give our territories to the predatory exploitation of the big industries.
00:59The International Labour Organization guides that governments are obliged to consult the indigenous peoples
01:07before making a bill, before exploiting the indigenous territory, it has to be consulted.
01:13And this the government is not effective, it does not respect the international agreements and not even the federal constitution itself.
01:22Every day, leaders are persecuted, attempted murder, as it happened.
01:28And also in the village of Zianomami, where people come out in front of the village,
01:34shooting with machine guns to intimidate the community, two people were murdered.
01:39When I was denouncing the carbon project of my community, which I was dividing,
01:46I was persecuted by government agents, also from my state.
01:52How so persecuted? Specifically, what did they do?
01:55With phone calls, calling, saying that I could be killed on the road,
02:03chasing cars behind us.
02:10In many of our languages, the word I does not exist, we exist.
02:16And we are the mountains, we are the waterfalls, we are the rivers, we are the sky, we are the heart of the earth.
02:23And there is the anthology of the episteme that humanity must learn.
02:33What is your name, where are you from, how old are you, where do you live, where do you work, what do you do for a living?
02:46My name is Ani Nawar, I am the leader of the Huni Kuin people in the state of Acre, in the Brazilian Amazon.
02:52And I'm coming back here in France to continue a work that we started a long time ago,
03:00which is the great alliance between indigenous peoples, the great alliance between supporters of biodiversity,
03:08supporters of environmental issues and also supporters of the rights of indigenous peoples,
03:15so that we can fight together to defend this common good, which is a common good of all humanity, which is our Amazon jungle.
03:24The movie Terra Livre is very important because it is bringing,
03:29showing audiovisually to people what is happening today in Brazil.
03:35It is very important because it brings the voice of indigenous peoples,
03:40the voices that many times the governments tried to silence, tried to deny and tried to hide.
03:46Carbon compensation is also the companies that are polluting, gaining the right to continue polluting.
03:53They are paying for the environmental crimes they have committed to the governments
03:58and gaining the right to continue polluting our atmosphere.
04:03So carbon compensation for us represents the colonization of our indigenous territories,
04:11where governments want to pay for the community not to do their agriculture anymore, not to live from hunting and fishing anymore.
04:21In other words, it is a way that the government wants to take total control of the indigenous territories.
04:29Are you afraid?
04:31No, we have to choose, we can't be afraid, we can't be intimidated by this kind of threat,
04:40because we have to decide, or we keep fighting to defend our people,
04:47to defend the rights of our children, or we die cowards.
04:51So my grandfather always told me, it is better to die fighting than to die a coward, hiding.
04:57So I'm not afraid of these governments, I'm not afraid of this persecution,
05:01I will keep fighting to defend the rights of my children and the rights of the entire future generation of humanity.
05:08We are not fighting only for our families, we are also fighting for you.
05:13We need your support, help us in this moment of struggle,
05:19because my son, your son, will be very proud of our history, built together, collectively.
