00:00Seeing whales in the wild is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but for one British couple it
00:05quickly became terrifying and possibly life-threatening.
00:08This video was captured just off the coast of Morocco by Janet Morris and Stephen Bidwell.
00:13They were enjoying a nap while sailing when the crew noticed a pod of orcas, also known
00:17as killer whales.
00:18But as they awoke to watch in wonderment, they noticed the pod was coming directly towards
00:22them.
00:23The marine mammals sidled up next to their boat and began ramming the hull repeatedly
00:27in an attack they say lasted an hour.
00:29With Morris saying about the encounter, quote, Because everyone was calm, it felt okay, but
00:34we were petrified.
00:35It wasn't until afterwards that we talked about being very scared, adding that they
00:38even began collecting their valuables and passports, and even considered readying the
00:43life raft.
00:44Stephen Bidwell added that orcas love the thrill of the chase, which is why experts
00:47recommend remaining still, but the choppy conditions of the day made that impossible.
00:52During the attack, crew members lost control of the boat, realizing after limping back
00:55into port that the orcas had damaged the rudder.
00:58SWNS reports this is just the latest in a series of attacks by orcas around the world,
01:03something that is puzzling marine biologists.
