00:00I had done the biggest mistake of my life, of my career. I was a bad girl because I was stylish.
00:13This is my college, Janki Devi Mahavidyalaya, my college and we were doing the fashion show there
00:19and yeah that was very stylish even for today's standards. I was very fashionable actually
00:27and my mother was totally like she never wore any jewelry. She was very simple and she used to say
00:42I have been styling myself for ages. Earlier we didn't have much money so whatever we had we
00:48styled with that. In college they didn't like me because they thought I look too modern and too
00:54stylish and not a nice girl. I was a bad girl because I was stylish.
01:07Maybe I would have been a teacher or a researcher or something like that. My mother wanted me to
01:14become an IAS officer and I think if I had listened to her I would have been a very good IAS officer.
01:24I have memories of Delhi because I spent my school, college, everything there
01:32but now I am a total Bombay girl.
01:38My mother was so strict that it was such a big thing to go out with boys for a trip.
01:44So that was a really I think childish thing to do but I was a child. I don't regret.
01:53It was part of growing up. That was me and it was okay. It was a stupid thing to do but
02:01at that time everybody's stupid.
02:14More than the lyrics it was the dance movement which became very popular and girls used to do
02:22it as an item number in their schools you know.
02:28My mother was the one who said that I have to go to a nearby college or else the girl will get spoilt.
02:33So later when I came to Bombay when she used to call me I used to joke around with her that the
02:38girl will get spoilt and we can't do anything. So yeah I think they would be very proud of me today.
02:46It was a role of a Lallu Radki and I had spags and I put my teeth like that. I thought if I do
02:54this role well then I will have offers like anything because this was a big film at that time.
03:00If a woman does a comedy like this then she will never become a lead actor.
03:08Nobody will think because it was a big film.
03:11Nobody will think because it was typecasting. I had done the biggest mistake of my life of my career
03:18that I did satsang. So the role I was very proud of that I did very well
03:25which became quite a hit with people actually boomeranged.
03:33I wore all my clothes. I used to take an auto rickshaw pay myself to go for the shoot because
03:39there was no money. It was a very small budget film. The director Kundan Shah was
03:44so much into the film into his work. What I remember so we will have a break
03:49for lunch and we are all eating and it was a long queue by the time you got your food and
03:56Kundan will be eating like this thinking about film and then as soon as he will finish he'll say
04:02chalo chalo chalo over break over break over.
04:09That break I wanted that I never got because that break came to me now with Badhai Ho.
04:18I did not get that break. I did very well on television like I made songs and I'm very proud
04:24of it. I made many series Sonpari, Bachchan, Dutt, Kubra all my productions but
04:45the subjects in movies are also changing because the social norms are changing not to a great
04:53extent this much but it is so the reason being that I am doing such nice nice roles otherwise
05:01if it was 20 years back I would be just playing a dadi.
