00:00It was a great innovation to have a drug that is the right drug for this pathology that
00:10until now we have treated with surrogates, we have tamponed and treated the symptom.
00:16Now we have a therapy that replaces the hormone in an adequate way and that allows to cover
00:22the calcium for all 24 hours.
00:25It is a fragment of the PTH of the parathyroid that is linked to a vector, it manages to work
00:31for 24 hours and therefore guarantees not only the adequate calcium for the patient, but
00:37also guarantees the management of what are the comorbidities that the patient can develop
00:42over time, because with the excess of calcium and calcitriol that we are using now, the
00:47patient can go against nephrocalcinosis, the bone is not managed correctly with this
00:52new product.
00:53I can also say that the name of the molecule is called palopecteriparatide, it is a bit
00:57difficult.
00:58We have this product that we are waiting for here in Italy, because the general has it,
01:03it has been tested by the FDA, by EMA and at the moment we have to buy it to be able to
01:09use it.
01:10This is frankly a bit unfair, because there are patients, they are young patients,
01:16they are women who would like to have a pregnancy, they are young athletes, it is not that we have
01:21only the elderly, sometimes they are genetic patients, those who are subjected to
01:28parathyroidectomy or to tyroidectomy, so after 20 years they can become tyroidei,
01:34who have a life ahead.
01:35So we are currently treating them with supplements, calcium and calcitriol, they have to take
01:40more supplements a day in these products, without having a guaranteed result.
01:45So it is not excluded that the patient with these conventional treatments should not
01:50resort to the emergency room for the hypocalcemic crisis, when we have a product that is born
01:55ad hoc, studied ad hoc and that works very well.
