Russia will station more military personnel in the Arctic, President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday. Putin said Russia would defend its interests in the region.
He was speaking at the International Arctic Forum in Russia's northern city of Murmansk.
Russia was concerned that "NATO countries in general are increasingly designating the Far North as a springboard for possible conflicts", he said, and Russia was monitoring the situation and preparing an appropriate response.

00:32I would like to stress that Russia has never threatened anyone in the Arctic, but we are closely monitoring the situation,
00:41building up an adequate line of response, improving the combat capabilities of the armed forces and modernising military infrastructure facilities.
00:50We will not allow any intrusion into the sovereignty of our country. We will reliably protect our national interests.
