00:00As part of the preparations for Easter week, the marina is currently inspecting the ship's passengers
00:05in the country's major ports.
00:08Life-saving appliances will be provided as part of the inspection.
00:11RON DAGUSA of PTV has news for the country.
00:17More than two weeks before the expected arrival of passengers this Holy Week,
00:23the Maritime Industry Authority or Marina has already inspected the ship's passengers.
00:29This is part of their Intensified Compliance Monitoring
00:32to ensure the safety of the passengers' trip.
00:35This is a new program of the marina to ensure that it follows the regulations
00:39of the ship's passengers in the ports where passengers usually land.
00:45According to Marina Administrator Sonia Malaluan,
00:47there are seven teams of marina inspectors in the main ports in the Philippines
00:52such as Batangas, Lucena, and Cebu where passengers usually land.
00:57The inspection started yesterday, April 1, and will last until April 12.
01:01This is one of the ways of the marina to ensure that before the arrival of passengers,
01:10we check the continuous compliance to safety.
01:14Because now, they have valid safety certificates.
01:19But we know that during daily trips, there are usual wear and tear.
01:24That's why we want to confirm.
01:26What they are inspecting include life-saving appliances
01:31such as life vests and life rafts,
01:33and fire-fighting equipment of the ships.
01:36It is also important to check the location of the machines.
01:39If there is a violation of a ship,
01:42it can be suspended or not be given a safety certificate.
01:46The Philippine Coast Guard is currently here
01:48to ensure that the ship's passengers follow the regulations.
01:51They are already prepared for the arrival of passengers
01:54such as here in Batangas Port.
01:56With the marina directives that we follow in the conduct,
02:02usually, they do the relaxation when it comes to some certain policies
02:07so that the passengers can really board properly.
02:11And security, because the more that the people are here,
02:19many of our ports are full.
02:22At this time, they requested for more people to guard the port.
02:27The force multipliers are included here,
02:29not only from the DOTR, but also from the PNP and the LGU.
02:33The marina is open to the public.
02:34They are here to avoid accidents and to have a safe trip.
02:39From PTV Manila, Rod Laguzad, Balitang Pambansa.
