Dumulog sa Korte Suprema ang ilang grupo para utusan ang Kongreso na magpasa na ng batas na nagbabawal sa political dynasty. Tingin naman ng ilang mambabatas, hindi puwedeng mangialam ang korte sa kanilang trabaho.

00:17Some groups went to the Supreme Court to order the Congress to pass a law that prohibits political dynasties.

00:30The 1987 Constitution prohibits political dynasties in accordance with the definition in the law.

00:38But those who filed a petition to the Supreme Court have been going for four decades but there is still no law.

00:46The government is full of lawless people whose only qualification, instead of character and ability, is their family's origin.

00:55If we look at what happened since the 8th Congress,

00:58the Senate and the House have passed different bills against political dynasties.

01:04Now, in the 19th Congress, Senator Grace Poe and Robin Padilla passed separate bills to the Senate

01:11while the young party list representative Raul Manuel is in the House.

01:16All of them are in the committee.

01:18It's a long overdue task of the Congress to pass that law.

01:23Of course, because political dynasties dominate our legislative branch, that's why it doesn't really help.

01:34Some lawmakers also believe that the Supreme Court cannot ignore the work of the Congress to pass a law.

01:42Senator Coco Pimentel and House Deputy Majority Leader Lawrence Defensor are among those who spoke out.

01:50It's not for the Supreme Court to compel.

01:53While the Constitution says that there is a prohibition against the dynasty under a bill passed by Congress,

02:03it does not state a timeline when Congress will pass it.

02:07A political scientist also doubts the Congress' decision to pass a law against political dynasties,

02:14especially since 8 out of 10 congressmen are members of political dynasties,

02:19based on the research conducted by the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism.

02:24If we will just rely on Congress to pass this law, it's like asking Dracula to guard the blood bank.

02:33We know that Congress is full of political self-interest.

02:42The leaders of the House and Senate are not yet in agreement.

02:46But Senate Minority Leader Pimentel said that he believes that the time will come

02:52when the anti-political dynasty bill will be passed, especially since the eyes of voters are slowly opening.
