Hamirpur, UP: A 71-year-old woman was briefly detained and booked for offering namaz near the District Magistrate’s office in Hamirpur on Monday. The action was taken after a video of her prostration went viral on social media. However, she was later released after authorities determined she was mentally unstable.
According to a police statement, the woman, identified as Munni from the Sufiganj area, has been undergoing medical treatment for the past four years. Her son is a daily wage laborer. Following the viral video, Hamirpur Superintendent of Police Deeksha Sharma confirmed that a case was registered against her for trespassing.
The incident also led to the suspension of home guards on duty at the DM’s office, including Ramkishore, Kamta, Pannalal, Mansingh, Girijavati, Rakhi, and Meena Devi, for alleged negligence.
