00:00For a week, the Togolese capital Lome vibrated to the rhythm of glamour, creativity and elegance.
00:09The International Fashion Festival FIMO 228 has closed the doors on its 12th edition.
00:16More than just an essential fashion rendezvous, this year's event was committed to a public
00:21health cause, the fight against breast cancer.
00:25For this Ivorian designer, the message is a personal one.
00:32I've called my collection Panacea, meaning a universal remedy.
00:36It's a powerful symbol of this year's theme, fashion for a world without cancer.
00:41It's a cause that's close to my heart as I myself have had close relatives affected by this disease.
00:46Panacea represents nature, hope.
00:50Young Togolese designer Eugenie Guidi Ayiawa has gone against the grain of beauty standards
00:55often imposed by the fashion industry.
00:58She pays tribute to African women and their generous forms with her collection La Vie en couleur.
01:06I focused on the kente gold loincloth from home, but also on shapes, particularly African roundness.
01:12It's a message of love to African women.
01:14You're beautiful, be proud of your African curves.
01:20Designer Jacques Logo founded FIMO in 2016.
01:24He says he's continuing his mission to showcase the creativity of African designers
01:29and promote the continent's haute couture rooted in its textile traditions.
01:34And he believes that attitudes are changing.
01:38Today we can see that things are moving forward.
01:41More and more officials are wearing African creations.
01:44That's exactly what we're looking for.
01:46Before, Africans were reluctant to consume locally.
01:49But things are changing and we're going to keep pushing
01:52until African fashion becomes a natural choice for everyone.
01:56Well, it's a wrap for the 2025 edition of FIMO.
01:59But the fashion festival will be back next year
02:01for another celebration of elegance, culture and commitment.
