00:00Filipino tennis star Alex Ayala continues to make history as she climbs two spots to No. 73 in the latest WTA World Rankings.
00:09This marks the highest ever ranking for a Filipino in singles in the Open Era.
00:14The first highest singles ranking by a Filipino were Eddie Cruz, who reached No. 179 in 1974, and Felix Barrientos, who ranked No. 180 in 1991.
00:24With Ayala's ranking, she now holds the record for the highest singles ranking by any Filipino in history.
00:32Before Alex, the highest ranking for a Filipina was Cecil Mamet, who reached No. 72 in 1999 while representing the United States at that time.
00:41The Filipina tennis sensation is set to return to action next week at the WTA 125 Challenger Era's Ladies Open in Portugal
