U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told Congress on Tuesday that “nearly 50” countries have approached him to address Trump’s blanket of new tariffs. Argentina, Vietnam and Israel have “suggested they will reduce their tariffs and non-tariffs barriers,” Greer said in testimony to the Senate Finance Committee.

00:04In the last week, the White House has been all over the map when it comes to this question.
00:10There is no clear message of how the tariffs were determined, what they're supposed to
00:15accomplish, how long they'll be in place, whether they're a negotiating tool or a move
00:21to try and cut the United States off from global trade and usher in a new era of 1870s
00:29style protectionism.
00:31Nearly 50 countries have approached me personally to discuss the President's new policy and
00:35explore how to achieve reciprocity and they've spoken with many members of the administration.
00:39Several of these countries such as Argentina, Vietnam, India and Israel have suggested that
00:43they will reduce their tariffs and non-tariff barriers in line with the President's policy
00:48and these obviously are welcome moves.
00:50We must move away from an economy that's based solely on government spending and the financial
00:54sector and we must become an economy based on producing real goods and services that provide
00:59jobs for working class and middle class Americans in their communities.
01:02This adjustment may be challenging at times and in a moment of drastic overdue change, I'm
01:07confident, I'm certain that the American people can rise to the challenges they've done before.
01:12The trade deficit has been decades in the making and it's not going to be solved overnight.
