00:00Denver chopped head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth.
00:05And it is kind of funny, Scotty.
00:08You know, you don't hear a lot of this stuff.
00:10And then as soon as something like this happens, then all the stories come out.
00:14Apparently, these two guys absolutely hated each other, Malone and Booth.
00:19Like, they didn't speak.
00:21They never talked to each other.
00:23For this is, like, not new either.
00:25Like, for a really long time, they were never on the same page.
00:28But now, all of a sudden, this all comes to light because they both got chopped.
00:33So, now it's every man for themselves.
00:35So, apparently, obviously, Denver, the ownership group, et cetera, I guess they just had enough of all of it.
00:42And they said, let's clean them all out.
00:44Chop them out.
00:45Let's go.
00:45And then try to – this Adelman kid is going to now coach them for the rest of, of course, this week and then into the playoffs.
00:52Yeah, I'm not buying the whole that they're going to be invigorated and start winning because they got Adelman's kid coaching them.
01:01They obviously know who he is.
01:02He's an assistant.
01:03So, I'm sure they acknowledge him and, you know, maybe like him or deal with him or get along with him, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
01:17But it doesn't mean they're going to listen to him.
01:19They didn't listen to Malone and they turned on him, then they're not going to respect some assistant that's taken over.
01:28I don't buy that they're suddenly going to start finding themselves and winning a bunch of games.
01:33And I thought – and believe me, you know I like this team with Joker, Porter, Gordon, and Murray, and Brown.
01:43I think they're really good.
01:45And I think they're very dangerous and capable.
01:48But they've kind of peeled apart like a banana.
01:51They've just kind of – their whole end of the season here has been kind of a, you know, unnerving mess.
01:59They're yelling, screaming, fighting, fired a coach to GM.
02:02They've got all these problems.
02:03And now what?
02:04They're going to find God?
02:06Like, I don't buy that.
02:07I think they're in trouble.
02:09And I think this is a real bad look for them.
02:11No one has been fired this late in an NBA season.
02:15Listen to this.
02:17Since 1981.
02:201981.
02:22Christ.
02:23I wasn't even – I would like – honestly, I was in high school.
02:27I was in high school the last time they fired someone this late in an NBA season.
02:33I don't think it's a smart move.
02:35I think they'll – well, we'll see.
02:37Like, we'll see if I know anything.
02:39I don't buy that you can do this now and then succeed in the next two months.
02:45I don't buy it.
02:48I don't either, honestly.
02:49I think that this is the beginning of the end.
02:52That's right.
02:53To be quite honest with you, for this season.
02:55Now, when they get – go hire some big-time coach who wants to work with Joker in the offseason
03:00and then they instill some new way of life there in Denver, that's a different story.
03:06But this guy –
03:06Would you hire Mike Malone somewhere else in five minutes?
03:09I would hire him.
03:09He's going to have – he's going to – he might have a job.
03:12The season ends on Sunday.
03:14So, you're going to have some teams that miss the playoffs that are going to fire their coaches.
03:18But if I – I would bet there are teams that make the playoffs that if things don't go well,
03:24losing the first round, they would fire their coach for Michael Malone.
03:27So, if I'm Malone, I actually make sure that I – my agent, whoever, has got the feelers out there
03:33for some of these teams that are playoff teams and they say, hey, listen,
03:37if things don't go well for us here, we'd be interested in your guy.
03:41Because that's – Malone is going to have juice.
03:43Let me just say this as well, in terms of this business, the business of coaching in my opinion
03:53of NBA, NHL, pro football, Major League Baseball, even college football and basketball
04:01is a four- to five-year excursion in the day you're hired is the day you're fired.
04:07It does not matter who you are anymore in sports, what your name is, how much juice you have,
04:16how do you fire a guy that has won titles and that has been the coach of the year.
04:21He knows exactly what he's doing, but they still – they fire everyone in sports.
04:27It does not – so, the deal is this, is if you want to get into the business of coaching
04:32and professional or college sports, notice, you need to be all about the money
04:38because there is no loyalty.
04:40There is no such thing as, oh, I'm so honored to work for the family,
04:44the ownership family or the ownership group or the owner or the, you know,
04:50I got this job, oh, I'm working for the Celtics is the greatest.
04:54Guys, know this, you're getting fired in five years.
04:58It doesn't matter who you are unless you win multiple titles.
05:03Like, they want to fire Sullivan in Pittsburgh for the last two years, right,
05:07because they've won three Stanley Cups, but they haven't won it,
05:10and they've been losing left and right.
05:12I guarantee you, what, Peter Laviolette, they're going to whack him.
05:16They whacked your boy in Philly towards – it don't matter who you are.
05:22They're going to fire Tockett in Vancouver.
05:25He'll go to Philly, but they fire coaches now in sports, college and pro,
05:30every four and five years.
05:31You're fired.
05:32So do it for the money and don't like anyone and don't be loyal to anyone
05:37because they're going to screw you.
