Tax season is coming to a close and despite President Trump’s promises of lower taxes for the average joe, most people say the amount they paid in federal income tax this year was “unfair”. The number comes from a recent Gallup poll, one that revealed most adults surveyed say their tax rate isn’t fair. Veuer’s Tony Spitz has the details.

00:10The number comes from a recent Gallup poll, one that revealed 50% of adults surveyed say
00:14their tax rate isn't fair. That's up from 35% in 2017. 46% say they thought their tax rate was
00:21fair, down from 61% in 2017. Meanwhile, 59% said their tax rate was simply too high. So if they
00:28want to pay higher taxes, where do the respondents think the money should come from? Well, an
00:32overwhelming number, 70% say corporations don't pay enough taxes, while 58% of respondents detailed
00:39that high-income earners don't pay enough either. Similarly, those surveyed said 58% of lower-income
00:44earners have to pay more than their fair share. 54% said the same about middle-income earners as well.
00:50According to the Tax Policy Center, Trump's 2017 tax law gave on average a $60,000 tax break to the
00:57top 1% of earners. Meanwhile, the benefit for the lowest 60% averaged less than $500.
