Homeless people in Moreton Bay shire say they've been left with nowhere to go as a crackdown on rough sleeping continues. Tents and possessions have been removed by council rangers. A month after the council made it illegal for the homeless to sleep or camp on public land.

00:23last year and have nowhere else to live.
00:26They put us on the list and get back to us, and never got back to us.
00:31One month ago the Moreton Bay Council made it illegal for homeless people to sleep in
00:35vans or camp on public land. Compliance notices threatening fines of more than $8,000 were
00:42issued two weeks ago for people to move on.
00:44It's going to leave people with nowhere to go. I've seen in the past what happens. People
00:50start trespassing on private land, they start squatting in houses and vacant lots.
00:55In a statement, the council says the rough sleepers have been offered help. All individuals
01:00have been offered the opportunity to be referred by council to specialist homelessness services
01:05and the Department of Housing and Public Works. Homelessness services say permanent housing
01:11solutions are needed.
01:12We don't want to see homelessness as much as the next person, but we need to make sure
01:16that there's somewhere for them to go and at this stage it's not looking too likely.
01:21Campers have been given until 4pm on Friday to leave the park. Many don't know where they'll
01:27go.
