Depuis qu'il a pris sa retraite d'enseignant et perdu son épouse, Charles Nieuwendyk s'ennuie et déprime. Encouragé par sa fille, il répond à une petite annonce : Julie Kovalenko, une détective privée, cherche un senior pour infiltrer une luxueuse maison de retraite à San Francisco. Un bijou d'une grande valeur y a été dérobé et Charles est chargé d'identifier le voleur. Tout en enquêtant, le détective amateur sympathise peu à peu avec des résidents et reprend goût à la vie. Après "The Good Place", le showrunner Michael Schur retrouve Ted Danson dans une nouvelle série drôle et émouvante.
