00:001, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2, 1.
00:15Next is a disappointing battle.
00:18And I want to fight against them.
00:25Uriah!
00:28Uriah!
00:31There's no迷い in there.
00:35The main place of the dome!
00:39The main place of the sea!
00:46I've seen it!
00:50From itself!
00:51.
00:57.
01:10.
01:12.
01:14.
01:16.
01:20My choice is only one.
01:25The title is the title!
01:29The title is the title of the title.
01:34Let's introduce everyone to the world and to the world.
01:39Let's take a look at the title of the title of the title.
01:45次は若い世界になる。
01:54純日本人同士...
01:57新日本を早抜きのこの二人は
02:01新日本の戦いをアメリカにして。
02:03期待してください。
02:05IWGPの次は...
02:08後藤ノチ!
02:15Oh, oh, oh, oh.
02:45There has long been a conversation
03:13about what Shota Umino has ever deserved in this sport.
03:18Did Shota Umino earn his first IWGP title match in America one year ago?
03:22Well, who's to say?
03:24Did Shota Umino earn his Tokyo Dome main event this year?
03:28Well, Zack Sabre Jr. was determined to make sure he did so.
03:32But a run to the final in New Japan Cup 2025, that was earned.
03:37For the first time in his career,
03:40it is not Shota Umino calling out the name of the champion,
03:44but being listed by the champion as his next challenger.
03:48That was earned.
03:49But for all that Shota has not won in his career,
03:53he must be forced to take the World Heavyweight title,
03:56the leadership of all time.
03:58There is no match bigger for Shota Umino.
04:01Here we go, Shota!
04:03And we know, we know that Shota feels the pressure.
04:19We know that he can read the energy in the room.
04:22He's talked about it.
04:24But I think that is exactly why Goto chose him as his next challenger.
04:30Let us know where we can read the music.
04:40We know that the world is a true character.
04:43It is a true character.
04:44It is a true character.
04:44Let us know where we can learn.
04:45Let us know where we can learn.
04:49Oh, my God.
05:19Oh, my God.
05:49And it is represented not by being appointed by Hiroshi Tanahashi, but by the gold wrapped
05:55around the waist of Ademusha, the fierce warrior tonight.
05:58The IWGP World Heavyweight Champion has one goal and one goal only, not to retain the
06:05title, but to show the world what Japanese professional wrestling is all about.
06:11And he believes Shoto Umino is the man to bring it out of them.
06:14And he believes in Shoto Umino is the man to bring it out of the world.
06:21And he believes in Shoto Umino is the man to bring it out of the world.
06:27The J in NJPW stands for and show them a true Japanese strong style championship match.
06:46We can talk about the J and NJPW, but ever since February 11th, it's been all about the G in
07:02IWGP.
07:03And that G.
07:06And that G.
07:07And that G.
07:08And that G.
07:09And that G.
07:11And that G.
07:35The bell sounds and we are set.
07:38It is a 60-minute time limit here tonight.
07:43One fall to a finish and there's no doubt Umino may be forced to wear the black hat.
07:53The Gotoh Revolution, Veda, you've been watching it.
07:55It's been televised every single night on NJPW World.
07:58It has truly changed the landscape of professional wrestling.
08:02To go just months away, or months back rather, we thought, well, maybe there's no chance in
08:06hell, or Okigoto ever becomes heavyweight champion in his career.
08:09And that has changed and it has changed everything.
08:12Not only has he finally become heavyweight champion, but like I mentioned before, this is his fourth
08:19defense in just about two months, which is an incredible championship schedule.
08:24And it is a schedule that he wants to keep up.
08:27He is looking to take on everyone, be it the old guard and someone like a Yuji Nagata, or here, the new generation in New Japan in Shota Umino.
08:39You can say that Hiroki Gotoh dipped into the, quote, new generation when he stepped up against David Finley and Ryogoku Sumoho.
08:46But now you are deep into the trenches of it, the current, the now that is Shota Umino.
08:52As we get into the numbers game here, Hiroki Gotoh, Shota Umino have never faced off before in singles competition.
09:04One year ago today, Umino facing off against Jack Perry in this building.
09:08He was a very, very different Chicago on that night when Shota Umino was in this arena.
09:13Yeah, absolutely.
09:14And he is, he has been up against every sort of crowd.
09:20Whether they're showing support, showing derision, Shota has had to ride through it all and stay on top.
09:33Today though, he needs to remain completely focused on the champion, no matter what the crowd is telling him.
09:41Can you talk to me a little bit about the pressure that Hiroki Gotoh is putting on his own shoulders?
09:46Not just with the incredible number of record defenses that we're going to be seeing should Gotoh walk away here tonight with the gold still.
09:53But to say you're putting the entire weight of a country's professional wrestling style and story and art onto your own shoulders against Umino.
10:01That's a heavy weight to bear.
10:03Yeah, and as he takes down his challenger with a tackle, Gotoh, he's spoken to the fact that when he has this newer, younger generation challenging him, he's looking to impart lessons as well.
10:18And the best lessons he has said, the best lessons are physical.
10:22It's an intense schedule that the champion has been forced to wrestle.
10:31Whoever walks away from this tonight will be competing, either May 3rd or May 4th, you imagine, at Don Taco and Fukuoka.
10:40May 9th, it is confirmed, the IWGP world titles on the line at Resurgence in Ontario.
10:47Gotoh makes it through Umino.
10:48Gotoh knows what lies ahead of him, but does not know for a fact clue.
10:52We talked about it earlier on.
10:53We'll talk about it in full now.
10:54Jeff Cobb laying out his own challenge while IWGP Tag Team Champion.
10:58Newly won, mind you, to the current world heavyweight champion.
11:02It's seemingly out of the blue.
11:04And, you know, there's a lot of times, Dana, where sometimes guys just throw stuff at the wall just to see what sticks.
11:09But it sounded dead serious coming out of the mouth of Jeff Cobb.
11:12Well, Umino made it to the ropes.
11:17But you're right.
11:18I mean, we're going to see a number of different challengers, I'm sure, lay their claim to the title.
11:24If Gotoh is able to hold on to it because he has made clear that he's willing to defend against all comers.
11:30Oh, look at the ankle, look at the rotation on the knee and the ankle.
11:36Umino has to watch his shoulders on the mat too.
11:43And it was indeed what we saw back in Ryugoku Sumo Hall.
11:49These two men involved in separate singles matches, Shoto Umino in the middle of the card, defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi.
11:54A man we'll see later on in our main event here tonight.
11:59And where does it sit on the mind of Gotoh and Umino to know that they have been, well, one could say shafted from the true main event here tonight.
12:06You can say double main event all you want, but there is only one true final match of the evening.
12:11Shafted from the main event to the semi-main.
12:16Shoto Umino feel the pressure off of that.
12:18Does Gotoh feel pressure off of that?
12:20Well, you know, when you're in that position, you really don't have any choice but to show the world, you know, why you should have been in a main event position.
12:31You need to steal the show as it were.
12:33And it looks like they are determined to do exactly that, leave an indelible impression here at Windy City Riot.
12:41I like it, indelible.
12:43Steal the show.
12:44The world heavyweight title.
12:46Find a way to overcome.
12:48Persevere.
12:49And that half-suplex immediately is going to find Gotoh back up.
12:53Add the shoulders up.
12:55And instead, Ushikaroshi will be the lead.
13:00You know, Shota has been wrestling with a different sense since we saw him lose that singles match to Great Okan.
13:06A sense of urgency all throughout New Japan Cup.
13:09Some might say a stronger intensity than we have seen at times past.
13:13Go-hoo kick up.
13:14That was a pass.
13:15Five minutes.
13:16365 days ago, Shota Umino made his way down to ringside from the rafters, from the stands of Wind Trust Arena.
13:28Shook hands with every single fan that he could get his hands on.
13:31But tonight, it is straight down that black aisle and right onto the cerulean blue.
13:36That's the difference in this Shota Umino.
13:38Fully focused on the task at hand.
13:43And it's working for him right now.
13:45He has the champion down.
13:47You know, as Shota continues to wear down the lower base of Roki Gotoh, I want to take you folks to the post-match comments Roki Gotoh had
14:00and targeted directly toward his flesh and blood, his children, son and daughter in attendance back in Ryogoku Sumo Hall.
14:07Saying, quote, no matter how many times you get beaten, if you don't give up, you don't lose.
14:12You will face many adversities in life, but you never back down.
14:15Beta, I really, truly believe Roki Gotoh's words to his own children had to have resonated with Shota Umino in some way.
14:24In some way in that challenge.
14:27Yeah, Umino has had his back against the wall so many times.
14:32And the fact that he is still here and still in title contention says so much about his ability to persevere.
14:40And the suplex with the bridge finds the cover.
14:45And it is not enough for two.
14:47You know, back on his feet.
14:58And again, moving with calculation, moving with deliberation.
15:02Even though he is the challenger, he is moving in full control right now.
15:09As Shota continuing to let it down that lower half.
15:15Gotoh, it takes so much explosivity to land all the offense Gotoh could find from that lower base here.
15:22Oh, crunched in on the Tornado DDT for Shota Umino.
15:29And now, high ankle suplex down.
15:32Umino finds the cover on the champion.
15:35And it is not enough.
15:37Again, Shota back up on his feet.
15:47And again, keeping close physical contact.
15:52Shota taking the technique, I don't like what I am seeing here.
16:02Has been really focused on the leg and knee of the champion.
16:07Oh, okay, let's hit on that.
16:08That's a great point there, Veda.
16:10This is something that we saw employed back Vince Hiroshi Tanahashi himself.
16:13An STF taught from Masahiro Chono down to Shota Umino as well.
16:18You can put two points of pressure on with an STF at different points in time.
16:23You can put it on the knee or you can put it on the front side.
16:25We're not seeing that STF yet.
16:27But we very well could here.
16:30Oh, wait a second.
16:31And we called the shot early.
16:32It is Shota Umino now.
16:34STF, and that is full pressure.
16:36More so being put on that knee.
16:38And that means that you're going to have to give up some on the front with that grip strength.
16:42Looked like he saw how close the champion was to the ropes and reposition.
16:48Again, that is smart strategy.
16:50That is calculation on the point of Umino.
16:53Oh, forearm over the face.
17:04And again, dragging the champ into the center of the ring.
17:09One more time, and it's relentless from Umino.
17:11But an Umino of maybe a year ago today would have already let go of this one.
17:16And again, so close to the rope.
17:28And to the bottom rope, Paroki Goto made it.
17:29And we are ten minutes through already into this matchup.
17:31Ten minutes deep, and the champion spent a good portion of that ten minutes trapped in that hole.
17:49Alveda, do you think that there's a potential Shota Umino put down Tanahashi in a very similar way?
17:54He's working down Goto now.
17:56Is it a strategy of, well, if it works in this case, it'll work in every case?
18:01It worked.
18:02And it also just, to me, speaks to a level of planning and calculation on the part of Shota,
18:09who clearly was ready for this matchup, was ready for this opponent.
18:16And he has taken Goto back down again.
18:20Shota's challenged twice before for the World Heavyweight title.
18:24Jon Moxley one year ago.
18:26Zack Sabre Jr. at the kickoff of this one.
18:29And neither was successful.
18:31We'll see if Umino can find it here.
18:33Goto can find a way.
18:35Oshikoroshi!
18:37Champion holding onto his knee as he slowly gets back up.
18:54As Goto now, gonna try and make him run.
19:06Mudamasa out the corner.
19:08And follows up deep.
19:10Back.
19:11Snowflex plants down Shota.
19:13Here's a cover for the champion!
19:15Oh!
19:16No!
19:19Shota kicks out, but immediately goes right back to the neck.
19:25Holding onto his neck.
19:27And back up on the shoulders.
19:29No!
19:36No!
19:37No!
19:38No!
19:39No!
19:40No!
19:41No!
19:42No!
19:43No!
19:44No!
19:45No!
19:46No!
19:47No!
19:48No!
19:49No!
19:50No!
19:51No!
19:52No!
19:53No!
19:54No!
19:55No!
19:56No!
19:57No!
19:58No!
19:59No!
20:00No!
20:01No!
20:02No!
20:03No!
20:04goto turns his back on umino whoa and a power bomb lays out goto and i'm not certain the chicago
20:24faithful is happy about that but you said it yourself earlier veda shota has to drown out
20:30the abscess noise has to have the tunnel vision on the world heavyweight title you know he's he's had
20:36a bad draw of it sometimes in matches where he finds himself in hostile territory but the key
20:44is like you said to block out that noise and focus on your opponent and right now he is doing just
20:51that so successfully and now shota at the corner those knees so effective against tanahashi
21:08goto has the same ability we're not going to see it here though umino one more time
21:15fall on the knees power bomb and a kick out at two again
21:19and there you see the shades of a previous show to umino relying on these people calling to an
21:36audience that i'm not sure or is along with the ride he is waiting on goto to get back up
21:44uh oh one of the larian instead reverse gtr goto revolution out of the corner and a larian stiff
21:56through goto
22:03you know dragging the champion back into position oh once this northern lights bomb debuted it back
22:09in new japan cup calls it the second chapter it will be the beginning of another
22:24oh wait a minute goto goto has that sleeper hold locked in tight on umino 15 minutes to pass 15
22:32minutes we are 15 minutes deep into a 60 minute time limit here and the iwgp world heavyweight title
22:38is on the line oh and shota he's fallen to a knee he's going down
22:53oh and umino might be fading right here taito nakabayashi oh he's gonna have to make a very difficult
23:09judgment call goto lets out of it and a soccer kick right through that is a goal through umino
23:18one might have to question the judgment there of the champion and i'm not one to do that often but
23:29it looked like this match was set in one back up on the shoulders we should roshi again no get through
23:38with stand gtw
23:44well let's remember that goto said that one of his goals in calling out shota umino
23:52was to impart a lesson a lesson through physicality and he is not done with umino yet
24:04oh
24:09goto now it's exactly how he put down david finley oh wait a minute the goto revolution has been delayed
24:16will not be denied oh
24:20umino the knee connects on the jaw of goto the cover new champion no
24:35deep deep waters here for umino
24:38goto now watch for it one of the second chapter instead goto right back to the playbook oh fold it
24:46in goto shiki no
24:49goto trying to get back on track here
25:03goto
25:08shota feels his time closing in goto elongates and not
25:15oh they both collide again
25:17gozo you never turn your back on the man and he's down with it lariat and umino out at one
25:31cover and goto's up
25:34shota now
25:39shota now
25:41lariat turns goto inside
25:47two only
25:49and now umino to put it away
26:02whoa
26:02shota
26:04kai
26:06that's it
26:06goto
26:10goto reaching deep into the bag and that is compliments
26:17that is compliment to shota umino to be able to withstand so much of this offense but
26:25he is down now
26:28from america to japan and all around the world shota kai is called and now
26:34the revolution no no no wait a minute wait a minute shoulders down umino's got it oh
26:44nearly stole him
26:56oh
26:56headbutt after headbutt
27:08oh
27:15the roki goto umino trying to battle out of it he knows what's coming
27:20oh
27:23arm trap behind and there's no delaying it oh
27:27goto revolution
27:31and still iwgp world heavyweight champion
27:36iwgp world heavyweight champion
27:49we talk all the time about the pressure of delivery
27:53when you make a proclamation when you stand on business and the words of your promise it is a
27:59difficult thing to do but goto did promise one thing he would show the world professional
28:04wrestling and that he would become and remain iwgp world heavyweight champion goto
28:10iwgp world heavyweight champion here today
28:22standing tall here in chicago
28:25we talked about it walker there are a lot of challenges lining up to face the champion
28:39go to umino he came close
28:45but the go to revolution it moves on
28:47so tomino has really dropped the egg on this one
28:59what comes next for umino the question still remains we're heading onto the road to don taco
29:04and here is your iwgp world heavyweight champion
29:10thank you everybody
29:17i can i cannot speak english
29:24well respect the honesty from the champion
29:35i love you all
29:47and the g and iwgp do you know what it means do you know what it means
30:12you know what it means do you know what it means do you know what it means do you know what it means
30:19the g and iwgp still stands for goto
30:34it's been an incredible night so far
30:49championship action all the way up and down and still out of you gp world heavyweight champion
30:54iroki go until the question remains as to what counts next for the g behind the iwgp
31:00he is really taking on all challenges across the board we talked about jeff cobb putting his hat into
31:09the ring you've got to imagine that zach saber jr is as well but if we're talking about champions
31:16walker we got to talk about mercedes monet we got to talk about the new japan strong women's championship
31:22and we got to talk about contendership because earlier in the night azumi mina shirikawa they
31:28fought to determine the next challenger for mercedes title at resurgence and that match ended in a double
31:34count out we didn't have a winner we didn't have a challenger well i just got word from rocky romero
31:39he made it official at resurgence it's going to be mercedes monet putting up her new japan strong
31:47women's championship against mina shirikawa and azumi it is a three-way match official for resurgence
31:57coming up may 9th live in ontario california the strong women's championship is going to be on the
32:02line i cannot wait for what what what is this hey we're we're still live right yeah yeah i think
32:17we see you guys aren't booked yet for the ontario show and that got us thinking
32:22that's our hometown what should we do matthew oh i i think the war dogs are always down for a fight
32:28right and then and and so are we as you know but you might be thinking there's there's
32:32only two of you and there's there's there's all the you guys so mathematically it doesn't really
32:38add up no does it well fortunately we know a couple of old og friends who are also always willing and
32:47up for a fight should we call them up and talk some shiz i think we should i think that would be well
32:53too sweet oh wow what do you say war dogs huh what do you say we'll even take the private jet for a
33:03five-minute flight all the way to ontario and spread plenty of more e-missions into the air that sounds
33:08great how about it see you in ontario bricks
33:20what okay okay we're back i believe yeah the young bucks laying out a challenge to the bullet club war
33:27dogs it looks like they have some friends that are too sweet they said they have some
33:32og friends that they can bring in to resurgence i think we can put some of those pieces together
33:40i have no idea what we're going to be seeing but it will be coming up resurgence may 9th we're coming
33:44up right now into our main event of the evening hiroshi tanahashi kanosuke tekesta the final road one-on-one
