00:25e então Shane was able to get around him, but lost the rear end, allowed that number two star race Yamaha out front,
00:30exactly where he wants to be at this heat race.
00:37Now this is where I feel like Cooper Webb's worked on RC the last couple of years, especially this year.
00:42His opening lap speed has been a lot better as we were watching Aaron Plessinger, last week's winner, get around Shane McElrath.
00:48But I feel like Cooper's been a lot better at this, being able to get a lead in the beginning part,
00:53to be able to get away and stress it out, and I think the last couple of years, that hasn't been the strongest point.
00:58It hasn't, but certainly, yes, he has worked on that early race intensity.
01:03He knew that's where he needed to be better, and to work on that, having that raw speed,
01:07that was one of the focus points, and then the whoops, also being fast in the whoops.
01:13He had said he knew if he wanted to win this championship, he can't always rely on jumping through there,
01:18and he had to be better at blitzing.
01:20He made the commitment to do that, and the improvements have shown because of it.
01:26And as James mentioned, Aaron Plessinger aboard the Red Bull Kawasaki,
01:30got his second career main event victory last weekend in the mud,
01:34just like he did in San Diego, just to the thrill of the crowd.
01:38Big thing about when you work on that early race intensity, too, James, as you know,
01:45if you can get through the first 10 laps, it certainly helps,
01:48because then the race kind of levels out, and you get a pace that you can maintain for the rest of the race.
01:54Plessinger, look at this, taking the fight to Cooper Webb on the inside.
02:00This guy's confidence is sky high at the moment.
02:02It doesn't matter that Webb is the championship leader.
02:06Plessinger's got the taste of victory and wants more.
02:09That was an awesome move.
02:11That was a nice move.
02:12That started by him getting a good run through that whoop section,
02:15got through that next rhythm section, and Cooper made a small mistake,
02:17but Aaron Plessinger on that KTM, the Red Bull KTM, was right there.
02:22The confidence and self-belief is so important in this sport.
02:28And to that point, have a look at this for Aaron Plessinger.
02:31His first three races of the season resulted in ninth and a pair of 22nds.
02:37His most recent three races, third, third, and victory.
02:41This guy is on a run, Will.
02:44It's unbelievable, right?
02:45You guys talked about the confidence that I asked him earlier today.
02:49I said, what did that do for you?
02:51He said, well, the lead up to it, he got four podiums in the last five races.
02:55That had a lot to do with it.
02:56But that win, the one that he wanted, he said it gave him, like, a sense of calmness afterwards.
03:02Like, that box was checked now.
03:03He was kind of free to go and do his thing.
03:06So to see the positive attitude that he always had and then add that on top, I mean, we shouldn't be surprised.
03:12Yeah, that was confidence breeds confidence.
03:16But watching what Aaron Plessinger was able to do through the whoops, he was blitzing, blitzing, vixing.
03:21Then he times it perfectly.
03:22It triples out and then triples into the corner.
03:25You want to talk about timing and precision in a very difficult spot?
03:29That was a perfect example of what to do.
03:32Yeah, absolutely.
03:33And although we're kind of surprised, well, I'm actually not because I would say this year has been somewhat of a disappointment if you're thinking about Aaron Plessinger and the way he rides.
03:44But the last race and the last few races in the corner, this is what we expect, JT.
03:49Yeah, watch AP.
03:50Ricky touched on this.
03:51And you're going to see AP, instead of blitzing out of the whoops, he's going to set himself up to triple out of the whoops right here.
03:58Then he gets the drive to triple into the corner.
04:00That's really important because if you blitz out, you're going to land right in the face and not be able to drive through that next triple.
04:06So it seems very subtle, but that is a lot of time he's saving there, guys.
04:11Yeah, absolutely.
04:11A lot of time and energy as well.
04:14And one benefactor of that is Cooper Webb, been able to stay close enough.
04:17And you know he's sitting there paying attention.
04:20I wouldn't be surprised if he came able to pick that up, RC.
04:23Well, this is what the benefit of being behind someone.
04:27You can see where they're making the moves and what they're doing different.
04:30And that helps you because you're able to make that mid-race adjustment.
04:34Blitzing the whoops, for those of you who don't watch a lot of Monster Energy Supercross, is when they're able to ride on top of them.
04:40Like skipping across the top.
04:41Skipping across the top.
04:42Yeah, they ever so slightly hit the front wheel, then the back wheel, front wheel, and then back wheel.
04:47And then some guys elect to jump through them, like Cooper Webb is doing right now.
04:51A lot of times it's faster to blitz, so there you go.
04:55Third place is Malcolm Stewart.
05:00Had a really good heat run last weekend in the mud in Foxborough.
05:03And then didn't quite have the same fortune in the main event.
05:07Where is the Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna rider?
05:10There he is.
05:11He's not quite a handful of seconds behind Cooper Webb, but running in a solid third.
05:17James, earlier today you said, I think I like the look of this track for my little brother.
05:21How so?
05:22Yeah, I think just the way he rods and the way his bike's set up.
05:25If we go back a few weeks ago at Tampa, the track kind of broke down.
05:29It got really slippery.
05:30And I think the way Malcolm rides, he's very heavy on the motorcycle.
05:33And what I mean by that, one, he's a big boy, but he puts a lot of weight, which pushes the bike down in the ground.
05:39And so as the track gets slippery and you start seeing some of those shiny parts,
05:42I think him being bigger and the way he rides a motorcycle is going to benefit him.
05:46And the track's going to continue to get slipperier and rougher, which is going to bring down the pace.
05:51And I think that 27 on Husqvarna is going to be up there fighting for a win today.
05:55The very popular Scottish rider, Dean Wilson, is back.
05:58As we said before the gate drop, he's riding aboard the factory.
06:01Honda spoke to Lars Lindstrom, the team manager earlier, and he said, look, we wanted somebody out there on the bike with Jed and Hunter Lawrence out injured.
06:08But we're hearing great things about their recovery and return to racing as Dylan Ferrandes is working on Wilson.
06:14And we'll get Wilson.
06:16And he said, look, we're not putting any pressure on Dino.
06:20We want him out there to help ride the bike, represent the brand, but also to test things in race mode.
06:27And he said, so long as he's in that top 10 range, top 15, anywhere around there, we'll be pleased.
06:33And he said, by the way, for Dean having such a good sense of humor and loves to joke around, he said he is taking this extremely seriously.
06:41I mean, it's a great opportunity.
06:42If not, Grandpa Earl is going to get that ride nonetheless.
06:45But, you know, it's really hard for any rider, especially you think about Dean Wilson coming in and filling the shoes of Jet Lawrence and Hunter Lawrence on that factory HRC Honda.
06:57To come back in in the middle of the season, it's very hard.
06:59And for him, he's doing a great job running sixth place in his heat race.
07:03Man of the hours right here.
07:05There we go.
07:06Heat victory.
07:09For Aaron Plessinger ahead of Cooper Webb.
07:11These Honda guys are fighting it out right to the very end.
07:15They're ahead of Mitchell Harrison and Christian Craig.
07:17Christian is in that ninth and final transfer position.
07:21Malcolm Stewart and Shane McElrath have already crossed the line.
07:28Well done.
07:29Welcome back, Dean Wilson.
07:31Good first ride.
07:32Yeah, massively impressive to go straight to the main event.
07:36Incredible ride, like James was talking about.
07:38Hard to do.
07:39Another guy that's been out with an injury.
07:41Christian Craig, 28, transferring directly.
07:46He can breathe a sigh of relief as he's looking around.
07:50He knows that.
07:51A winner last week and a...
07:5316th girl, he knows that.
08:08He knows he's coming across to be able to hear the Kirk.
08:08He knows that he knows he's looking around the Lord last week and he says it's much more.
08:11Yeah, he understands the Kirk.
08:12He knows about you.
08:13That's so lovely.
08:14That's so lovely.
