00:00We reported earlier in the week, Pat, some optimism for online sports betting may be coming to Nebraska.
00:07Seems like some solid progress made, hopefully, by the end of this year or next year.
00:11I think we've got to get this on the ballot first in November, correct?
00:14It would need to go to the ballot first.
00:16It is a really interesting tug of war we have there in the unicameral legislator in Nebraska.
00:22There are three final votes.
00:24It's passed the first one with 27 votes.
00:26The final vote needs at least 30 yes votes.
00:30So you're in a kind of gray ground right now.
00:33Senator Elliott Bostar, who is the sponsor and is pushing this, says there were multiple people who were missing from the vote that would be yes votes.
00:43But there's another hiccup here that at least one senator has promised to fill or bust through this, the sports betting issue, because they don't like it.
00:52That would require 33 votes.
00:54So there's still a lot of whipping that needs to be done.
00:56A lot of people saying we need to get this done.
00:59There's some local publications that have talked to the senators who are saying, you know, you cannot like sports betting if you want.
01:07But, you know, I watch people from my house go across the street or go across the border and bet in the fields in Iowa.
01:14So, you know, we don't like seeing our money going to different states.
01:18So I think that's the big argument there.
01:21Senator or Governor Jim Pillen is a proponent of sports betting.
01:25He even pitched the idea last year as they were kind of trying to figure out how to come up with property tax relief for residents.
01:31He suggested sports betting could be used for that.
01:34So he's in favor.
01:36So the question is, is three votes going to be enough that he supposed to be supposedly has or does he need six votes?
01:43It's going to be a tight race there in Nebraska before we get to the ballot or if it can go to the ballot.
01:49But but, yeah, it could be there.
01:52And so we could have two states this year if, again, Hawaii is going to conference committee and Hawaii just a dark horse.
01:59Nebraska kind of is as well to go online.
02:01But, hey, possibilities.
02:02And that's why we watch these legislative ongoings.
