00:00My plan coming in here was to get food as soon as possible.
00:24There we go.
00:26It was just so close, you know.
00:32Meanwhile, we're just out here eating worms.
00:36Cheers.
00:38That creek is my source of food.
00:40Route number three.
00:42I think I have everything set.
00:44I'm switching on to surviving out here for as long as I can.
00:47Thank you, Tasmania.
00:50I don't have a plan for how I'm going to feed myself and survive.
00:54Trees and space.
00:56Are you okay with me coming to live here?
00:58I'm not a warrior.
01:00I'm a worm hunter.
01:02I was expecting the fishing to be a bit easier.
01:06There were sump-sumps of wallabies all around me.
01:10I think this might work.
01:12So I'm going to try and catch a wallaby.
01:14Yay!
01:16I just went and do wee and had this weird bone.
01:22The doctor wants to come and check and I'm worried.
01:26I'm hoping that's not enough to take me out.
01:28I'm hoping that's not enough to take me out.
01:30What the hell is that?
01:32I am or no longer with me.
01:34I am not good.
01:35I'm gonna try and catch a wallaby.
01:36You're not here.
01:37I just went and saw.
01:38I'm hoping that's not enough to take me out.
01:40I'm hoping that's not enough to take me out.
01:42You are safe.
01:43That's just not enough to take me out.
01:44You are safe.
01:45I'm feeling the only way to do this.
01:47In a 내가 zone, you'll be in the place.
01:49I am blessed.
01:50You not.
01:51You are welcome.
01:52We are not alone.
01:53When you passed urine, is it still burned?
02:14Yeah, yeah.
02:15Just tell me, is that uncomfortable anywhere I'm pushing?
02:18Is that tender?
02:20Yeah.
02:21That's tender there?
02:21Yeah.
02:23I so hope this UTI thing goes away, clears up.
02:27Because I don't want to go yet.
02:29I'm not ready.
02:31I think I'm fine.
02:33Slip your jacket back on.
02:34Yeah, yeah.
02:37I'm going to head back outside.
02:39Yeah.
02:39We'll come back and speak to you in a minute.
02:41All right.
02:45All right.
02:47I'll be back in a second, Caitlin.
02:48Yeah, yeah.
02:49She's got pain where you'd expect it, with a UTI.
03:02Most concerningly, is on her abdominal exam.
03:06And the pain, particularly on the right side, up high there, could represent an infection
03:12that's spread to her kidneys.
03:13I'm trying to read their lips.
03:16I'm trying to read their lips.
03:16Um, examining you this morning, I have concerns that you've got an infection.
03:38No, no.
03:39All right.
03:40And that infection is not going to get better here.
03:43And that we need to get you to the right place to make sure we manage it appropriately
03:48and safely.
03:50Yep.
03:51You're not safe to continue.
03:53Okay.
03:54I'm sorry about that.
03:56That's okay.
03:56That's shit homework you're doing here.
04:02Oh, damn.
04:04Fucks.
04:06Yeah.
04:08Not many to go.
04:10Yeah.
04:11Sucks.
04:15Yep.
04:20I promise my wife I'll come back.
04:22So, yep, I'll do that.
04:24Important promise to keep.
04:26Yeah.
04:30What a journey.
04:32What a journey.
04:35Yep.
04:46I'm gutted that it's ended.
04:48I feel like I just got started, pretty much.
04:52Yeah.
04:52I've got such a big supply of fish in the creek up there.
04:57I was warm and dry and, uh, I thought I had it.
05:02I thought I had it.
05:05Dad was there the whole time.
05:07He was the eagles in the sky leading me to the creek.
05:11He was always saying, you know, just keep going.
05:14Just keep trying.
05:15Being out there for 19 days has given me a greater appreciation of my own life that I already have.
05:24I thank my wife for her support and encouragement because I wouldn't have done this without it.
05:32So, I am so looking forward to the next adventure that we're going to go on together.
05:37Now, my time is up.
05:38I hope that I have inspired so many people, regardless of age, gender, sexuality, abilities.
05:50I don't know if I can't do this shit.
05:52You just put your mind to it and go for it and, um, you don't really lose until you actually quit trying.
05:58Coming out of this now, leaving this land, I didn't quit trying, so I didn't lose at all.
06:03I don't know if I can't do this shit.
06:33I don't know.
06:34I don't know.
06:35I don't know if I can't do it.
06:36I don't know if I can't do it.
06:37I just don't know if I can't do it.
06:38I don't know if I can't do it.
06:39I don't know if it's a big deal.
06:40Yeah, see them there?
06:41Kind of like a little flea, I guess.
06:42You know.
06:43You know, if you want to really dress it up.
06:47It's like a baby prawn and...
06:55It tastes all right.
06:58Another day. I guess I'll mark it on the blog. What's that? 19 days. If I'm being honest,
07:19I'm feeling a bit worried about the lack of food we've managed to get.
07:27We're just living on foraging and worms. I'm getting minerals from the plants I'm eating.
07:39I know I'm getting protein from the worms, but it's just a game of how much, you know?
07:48I really need something to start working.
07:54Anyway, I'm going to go check the wallaby track, as I've done for the last, I don't know, 10 days.
08:05More than that, I think. Maybe the last couple of weeks.
08:10When we first got here, it felt like we had plenty of opportunity, you know?
08:15There was lots of possum shit around, lots of wallaby shit, and that's all gone.
08:22There's no fresh wallaby shit I've seen here for ages.
08:31You know, there's nothing in there. Just the way we left it.
08:37We'll have a look at the trail camera anyway and see if the wallabies have been doing anything.
08:46Oh, there's something. What is that?
08:50Oh, it's a tizzy devil. Jeez, he's almost going in the track.
09:01Shit, he didn't set it off.
09:05Look at a mack and his territory all through there. Bastard that's been putting everything off.
09:20So I might have a little play with that trigger tension, because he should have set that off.
09:25Pretty stick looking animal.
09:27It's kind of good that he just went in there.
09:31So, that's a good thing, I guess.
09:34Man, it looks pretty fine to me.
09:38Never expected it to be easy.
09:41Be a fool to expect that.
09:44I don't know how much finer I can make it, but I'll do my best.
09:49It's certainly harder than I thought it would be, though.
09:52It's way harder in terms of getting food.
09:58Probably been a little bit complacent, really, and just thinking I know how to get food back home easily.
10:07Fuck, I can't do it here. Not so far.
10:11So, I'm living on a starvation diet. There's no two ways about it.
10:15I know I'm not going to win the starving competition out here, that's for sure.
10:22And I really want to stay out here as long as I need to, you know?
10:28Because this is such a huge opportunity, and it's also a big sacrifice that I'm making and my family's making.
10:35And financially, you know, if I'm spending that time away from work, there's also that to consider.
10:47It's been my job to trap possums for the last 14 years.
10:52Now that I've got a young family, I've got a few other jobs that I do to try and make a bit more money and be at home a bit more.
10:59Soundcast? Yep.
11:01We live on a rural block out in the country.
11:05We pretty much live on wild meat that we harvest.
11:09We forage a lot of wild greenery as well.
11:13Yeah, so winning the money is the main goal.
11:17It would take a lot of pressure off us to get to where we want to get to.
11:21There's a big motivation for me to stay out here, and basically what that hinges on is me getting food, you know?
11:36The more of it, the better.
11:41Just hanging out for a win at this point, you know?
11:46I found this most beautiful piece of wood.
12:08It's a cup.
12:10I think it's going to make a great cup if I can carve it out a little bit.
12:13Look at that though, isn't that beautiful?
12:16Or a horn.
12:30It's not that I've ever been here three weeks already.
12:32You all right. I'm ready.
12:37I'm like three weeks since not that long ago and a long time ago.
12:43I guess I actually haven't stopped yet.
12:47Like I feel like I've just been constantly on the go figuring things out.
12:52Figuring out the shelter, figuring out food, figuring out fishing.
12:57I'm not eating much and what I am eating is just plant food and hopefully down the track protein.
13:11Mmm. Now, yesterday I discovered these roots.
13:17Tastes kind of like cucumber.
13:23Mmm. They're really sweet.
13:25So far this land has just been so kind of open to me using its resources and I really get a sense that it wants me to be here and that it's actually happy being recognised for its abundance.
13:41I must say I'm absolutely loving it here. The only little hiccup, and it's a big hiccup actually, is that I haven't caught anything to eat.
13:51So hopefully this beautiful darling land will provide me soon.
14:07The wind has turned to the northwest and it's grey and it's cold and the water has risen a fair bit.
14:17The water has well and truly risen and this wind might stay for a while and rain and the lake might really rise so I've got to go and bring my rods up to higher ground.
14:40The little peninsula has got a fair bit of water coming at it.
14:47The little peninsula has got a fair bit of water coming at it.
14:53All right. One.
14:56Across we go again.
15:00Before it's cut off.
15:02Before it's cut off.
15:04Ooh.
15:05Stop.
15:08I'm a weather witch.
15:10I said stop.
15:12Move back.
15:15Go back behind the mountain.
15:19Stop.
15:22Maybe I'm not a weather witch.
15:25So I just tried to control the weather but I feel like I just made it.
15:31Kissed it off.
15:32But I feel like it just got off.
15:34A whole lot worse.
15:36All right.
15:50It is wallaby trap day.
15:52My little house is now all locked up and I'm going to trek over to my wallaby site.
15:58It's going to be a slow walk.
16:00I just walked down to the lake then to get a drink and I'm tired.
16:04And that's like 20 metres.
16:06So, yeah, I'm going to take it nice and slow and steady.
16:18I ate my last piece of eel this morning.
16:22That eel lasted a whole week.
16:24I've tried fishing here every single day this week and got nothing.
16:29I'm really hopeful for this wallaby.
16:32Really, really hopeful.
16:37There is.
16:38There is a wallaby.
16:40Sorry, little guy, but you are on the menu.
16:46There's no way a wallaby's going to bust out of that.
16:48Like, I've spent a lot of time here.
16:50I made it really, really super strong.
16:52Like, it's like a prison.
16:56The door's not on just yet, but that's okay.
16:58It's probably a good thing even just to build that trust with the wallaby again,
17:01so it can come in here and sniff around and feel no threat.
17:04I'm definitely keen to finish that wallaby trap.
17:10Yeah, I've got to get some protein coming back in.
17:12If I can get that wallaby, I'm set.
17:14Like, I can stay out here.
17:15Like, there's nowhere I've got to be.
17:17Like, I could bring this home.
17:19Mentally, I could bring this home.
17:21Two and a half weeks in, and now I'm just down to vegetation.
17:28Oh, and I've just found some fiddleheads.
17:33Okay.
17:34I don't want to pick too many to start with,
17:36because I don't know how my tummy's going to accept them.
17:39You don't get much out of the vegetation.
17:42And I don't enjoy eating it, because it tastes like crap.
17:47I have high hopes for that trap.
17:49I really do.
17:51I can already taste a wallaby.
17:55I have arrived at the wallaby trap.
17:58So I have a second trail cam that I want to also set up,
18:00but I'm going to check the first one.
18:02Very hopeful.
18:07Please show me something good.
18:08Please show me something good.
18:14Okay, so that's just me.
18:19You're kidding.
18:20All that's captured is me walking in now.
18:24Nothing.
18:25Bugger.
18:31Anyway.
18:33I'm going to finish it.
18:34I'm going to set it.
18:37I'll walk back in the morning and check it.
18:44And I'll go from there.
18:48Dang.
18:50Dang, dang, dang.
18:55I was feeling a little bit bummed, and it's the first time since being here I've felt a bit bummed.
19:00I've put a lot of time and effort into that trap.
19:03I've burnt a lot of calories.
19:05Okay, so the idea is this slams shut, but now I need something to keep it shut.
19:14So, I'm going to have two posts that come down here.
19:19And then I'm going to have a weight.
19:22So when the trigger goes, this slams shut.
19:27All right, now I need a proper pair of cord.
19:31There's strong stuff.
19:32I mean, the carriage looks terrifying.
19:36If I was an animal, I wouldn't be going anywhere frickin' near it.
19:39I might put some plants around it.
19:45That door's not even close to holding.
19:48I don't bring enough pair of cord.
19:51Fuck.
19:53I don't even have to redo the door.
19:55So, I'm a bit frustrated.
20:00I had a sneaky suspicion I had made the door too heavy.
20:03And I have.
20:05I don't have the patience today, and that weather sounds like it's turning nasty.
20:09That wind is roaring.
20:12Fuck yeah, I've got to get back to camp.
20:15That wind is wild.
20:18Leave it for today.
20:20Come back maybe tomorrow.
20:22We'll play around with it.
20:25Yeah, I've got to go.
20:26This is getting bad.
20:52Fun again.
21:11Looking all right.
21:13Good enough.
21:15Okay.
21:16Lets do it.
21:18Let's go fishing.
21:22I didn't sleep that well last night. I was so cold. It was proper cold.
21:29And today I just, I'm feeling flat. Just a little bit lethargic.
21:37Each day that goes by, bringing in food becomes a higher and higher priority.
21:41Every day you're not bringing in food, there's a countdown ticking.
21:47And who knows how much time is left on it? How many days?
21:52Point is, when you bring in food, you hit pause on that timer and you increase your chances of really going deep.
22:05When I woke up, I don't know, early out of the morning, fishing plans were going through my head.
22:13Cool. That'll work well.
22:16Let's try a little bit of paracord. This will serve two purposes.
22:21One, I'm going to loop my line through it and that'll allow me to still fish from a hand line primarily when I'm casting it.
22:30So I trip it, just have it attached to here as a visual indicator for some bounce and some spring.
22:38And two, I'll be able to see it a lot more easily from camp with this bright coloured paracord on the end.
22:46I feel like I'm more likely to get a bite. Having that like that, it's just more like a setup at home, I guess.
23:01I'm just waiting for a tug on that line.
23:07I say the best way to make God laugh is to tell him your plans for the future.
23:12Ever since I was 12 or 13, I really wanted to play AFL football. That was my goal.
23:22Here I am.
23:22I went through the ranks for my local country team and did well there and then went through the ranks right up to the semi-professional level.
23:32I got to play in a SANFL grand final in front of 20 plus thousand people and winning premiership for the Eagles and it was amazing.
23:41This is my most special one. This is our premiership one and every single one of my teammates signed this.
23:52I had quite a few AFL clubs that were kind of interested in me. I did my knee and that wrecked my chances.
23:58I got really close but I didn't quite get there. That was really disappointing for a few years there,
24:04particularly when so many of my friends got drafted into that system.
24:08I've learned a lot of lessons through playing league football. Primarily, things aren't always going to go to plan.
24:16You can't let the setbacks and difficulties define ourselves. You know, staying positive is a choice and that's how I live my life.
24:27Well, no fish this morning, but really happy with that system.
24:33And from my shelter, I can poke my head out. And I can see the rod tip. I can see that bright orange paracord.
24:44And that is potentially a game changer.
24:50Oh, oh, that could be some movement. That could be some movement of the rod. Could be some movement.
24:57It definitely gave a couple of jerks, I reckon.
25:09Oh, yep. That line's unspauling. That line's unspauling. It is go time. It is go time.
25:15I reckon I could be on here. I could be on.
25:27A little jerks.
25:37Oh, yep. That line's unspauling. That line's unspauling. It is go time.
25:48A little jerks.
25:57Oh, it's snagged.
26:02Get stuffed.
26:05Come on.
26:11Getting jack of this fishing spot.
26:16Every spot I've found has been snaggy.
26:19I want to just keep a bait in the water.
26:21I want to just keep a bait in the water.
26:34Last.
26:37The lot.
26:42Ah.
26:43Keep trying to not give up.
26:53Courage does not always roar.
26:56Sometimes courage is the quiet voice that says, I will try again to my own.
27:01I really like that.
27:10Applies really well to this experience.
27:15Yeah.
27:16Just watch that.
27:17We're on deck.
27:19Yeah, the setbacks with the fishing.
27:22Highs and lows.
27:25But it's just about trying again.
27:27I don't know.
27:51Oh, my God.
27:52Your skin.
27:57When this challenge is over, I'm gonna try a few of these things at home and just see
28:06if I was just super hungry or... No, they do actually date me.
28:19The lake is rising at a rapid rate.
28:22Just here, just put past the pad in that water.
28:27There was nothing in that bay when I first, 20 days ago.
28:33So it's often take long because it's quite low to join up with that over there
28:37and cut this whole island off here.
28:42Another week, I reckon, if it keeps rising like it is, another week,
28:45I won't be able to get out to that.
28:48Won't be long before this is all gone.
28:52That's really gonna cut down on the fishing options.
28:59I'm bloody thriving because, you know, I've got plenty of food.
29:05But if this lake floods to its full capacity, I'm trapped on an island with fucking nothing.
29:12So I've got to go for it while I can and try and cure as much food as possible.
29:19While it's dead calm and I've seen a couple of rises,
29:23I'm gonna head out here and see if I can sit quietly by the bank and get one close.
29:30Put a worm on it and then flick the unweighted worm out to it.
29:38Jeez, that's cold.
29:41I guess it's got a bit of all that snow up there.
29:44Oh, hands in pockets trying to warm them up.
29:52Oh, there's one in close just there.
29:55He's really going to town chasing something.
29:58Can't get over it. The lake's coming up so fast.
30:07The next month is meant to be the wettest month.
30:11So I reckon it'll be continuing to rise at the rate it's going and maybe even faster.
30:16River's roaring over there today.
30:22You know, with Google and all the information in the world,
30:29there's not much an old bloke can pass on anymore.
30:33Yep, there he is again, just there.
30:37You can watch it and do it and YouTube the shit out of it,
30:41but until you come out and do this, it ain't the same.
30:46You've got to be out here doing it, feeling it.
30:50Bit of bruise come up.
30:54Yeah, it's tough for the father wanting to pass your knowledge on sometimes
30:58and thinking about me wife and daughter and the grandies.
31:02They're wonderful little kids.
31:05Hopefully they can come out and do this with me one day.
31:08Show them a few things.
31:09Just the...
31:13I saw you.
31:15Oh yeah, here we go.
31:30How many shoes can I cast so far?
31:33Oh, it's right there.
31:34There we go.
31:36Surely you'll see that.
31:37Shit.
31:39We're on.
31:40There we go.
31:44Surely you'll see that.
32:02Shit.
32:04We're on.
32:07We're tangled. Oh, got him off.
32:10Oh, I lost him.
32:26Well, he's not big.
32:28We were successful.
32:34I do feel like I've been kissed on the deck by a fairie.
32:37Just when I think I'm gonna run out of food, I'll get a little fish or another eel.
32:43Not big, but at least they give me some guts for eel fishing.
32:50And that's the first brown trout, see? No spots on the tail.
32:54There's another three days of food in the bank.
33:00Got him hanging up there.
33:04So that's better than poking the eye.
33:06It's a blunt stick, isn't it?
33:08You're the best for eel fishing.
33:12What's that for eel fishing?
33:14There's another fish.
33:16I'm going to put the crab into the moose.
33:18It's a bit dark.
33:19I'm finished from the stone.
33:20You're the last one to save me.
33:22I'm gonna go.
33:23You're the last of the fish.
33:24You're the last one.
33:25I'm not gonna go.
33:26I'm gonna go.
33:27I was just hanging in my shelter and I started to feel really sick.
33:57And I wondered if it was just the smoke from my fireplace, so I came outside and I sort
34:01of sat out here and had fresh air for a little while.
34:05This morning I ate a bunch of fiddleheads and then the sausage and now it's all just come
34:10up.
34:11Do you not feel good at all?
34:24So I've just thrown up a second time.
34:51The first time it was a sausage that came up and the second time it was all the fiddleheads
34:57that I ate this morning.
34:59I knew those fiddleheads were not good.
35:04For me it tastes so bitter like that it can't be good for you.
35:11I feel like I could try up again.
35:18I can't keep any water down.
35:20That's me done.
35:22No more fiddleheads.
35:23It's just annoying because now I don't want to eat the fiddleheads or sausage again.
35:29So that's two food sauces down.
35:31It's like it's protein or nothing for me.
35:38And my stomach just feels really acidic and barley and gross like just yuck.
35:45Oh I don't feel good.
35:47So I've still got a little bit of fat on me.
35:54I am finding it harder and harder to stay warm though with the more weight that I'm losing.
36:01I'll be under 60 kilos now which is pretty light for me.
36:15Being sick just means that my weight is going to keep dropping off me until I can get some
36:21decent protein and the fishing just ain't happening.
36:24My tummy's making all kinds of noises.
36:30Right now I've got no lines in the water.
36:32I've got no bait.
36:34Losing a little bit of motivation I guess too which is shit.
36:41Not my favourite day.
36:45I don't think I'm done tearing up yet.
36:46I think there's still more.
36:50No one feels like doing much when they feel sick.
36:52I need to not be so hard on myself.
36:54It's stuck in my throat.
36:55Normally if something goes wrong in my life I just shut down.
36:56I'm like no I can't.
36:57I just walk away.
36:58I'm not very good at giving myself a break.
36:59I'm not very good at giving myself a break.
37:00I'm not very good.
37:01I'm not very good at giving myself a break.
37:02I'm not very good at giving myself a break.
37:03I'm not very good at giving myself a break.
37:05I'm not very good at giving myself a break.
37:06I'm not very good at giving myself a break.
37:12I'm not very good at giving myself a break.
37:13I'm not very good at giving myself a break.
37:19And I'll keep out.
37:21That's it, literally, with more grace.
37:22This is a great nightmare this day.
37:24LEO CHAP, verb, verb, verb.
37:25juniu.
37:29to survive alone in the rugged Tasmanian wilderness,
37:32with the winner taking home a prize worth $250,000.
37:37Oh, it's kept warm, got to soak up that vitamin D.
38:00I had a dream last night, everything that had happened so far out here was a dream.
38:18I was like, oh, thank God. I'm glad I get to start over, because that's a rough three weeks.
38:26Then I wake up and I realise, oh, no, that is the three weeks I've had.
38:33So, yeah, that was disappointing.
38:40Not the start I planned, you know.
38:45It's kind of hard to shake off.
38:52It beats back on.
38:56Off into the shady forest where I know there's some worms waiting for us.
39:02With the worms and the, like, the daily maintenance food we're getting.
39:12See what's inside.
39:16Two worms, three worms.
39:19It's not particularly appetising.
39:22It's more, sort of, necessity.
39:26That's another little morsel.
39:31Just a tiny little thing.
39:33I wish they were bigger.
39:35I wish they were, like, hoo-hoo grubs.
39:38I'd be bloody frothing over those right now.
39:45I was thinking before, I wonder what my family are going to say when I tell them I lived on worms and bracken for the first three weeks.
39:59It's not through lack of trying.
40:04We've got our trap set.
40:07Just want that bloody Tasmanian devil to bugger all.
40:10Hopefully he already has and everything's going to start coming back.
40:16But in the meantime...
40:21I've kind of got a predicament, really, because I...
40:28I've got to kind of think how much energy should I be spending every day when I'm not bringing in fish or big animals, you know?
40:44How much energy should I be spending when I'm just eating worms and foraged plant foods?
40:57I just don't know.
41:02I don't know how much I should be doing.
41:05How passive should I get?
41:08Like, I already feel like I'm being pretty passive.
41:11I'm not doing a hell of a lot, but I am still walking around in the bush looking for possum dens, foraging, doing all that stuff, you know, every day.
41:24And is the trade all worth it, I guess?
41:29I'm kind of feeling like that's a giving up day.
41:36So, I'm sitting here, whittling away, minding my own business, when...
41:55Little leech crawling up my leg.
42:10He's after my blood.
42:14Too small for bait.
42:18Not going to eat it.
42:20Sorry, leech.
42:22You're just going to die.
42:24I'm out of soup.
42:31I finished it this morning.
42:33And I want more.
42:36I'll dig for some grubs and some worms, so that I have some protein to put in my soup today.
42:43I wonder if there's a shortcut through the bush. Shortcuts are never shortcuts, are they?
42:53Foraging has been a success, and it will get me by.
42:58Something's been digging here.
43:01I've been seeing a lot of that everywhere.
43:04But it'll be a struggle just to live in those plants alone.
43:09Look at this track.
43:11This is such an obvious track.
43:13And that is currently in use.
43:17This would be a good place for the net trap.
43:20Right along here.
43:23It goes up.
43:24And then there's another track that goes up along that way.
43:29Okay.
43:30I did see heaps of wallaby tracks and fresh droppings.
43:35Look at that.
43:37Fresh poo.
43:39Fresh wallaby poo.
43:44You can see down there, there's grass growing.
43:47This is where the wallabies hang out.
43:49This is where I need to focus my trapping.
43:52Which I don't have any experience in.
43:59Oh, you are so tackled.
44:02I'll just drape nets everywhere and hope that something runs into it.
44:07It's all just winging it, isn't it?
44:11Okay, let's go.
44:14Just winging it until you find out something that works.
44:23Also going to dig up more fern roots for dinner tonight.
44:29I'm confident in my foraging abilities.
44:40I'm not confident in my ability hunting at all.
44:46I have never killed anything more than a fish.
44:50Also keeping an eye out for worms.
44:53Killing things is something I really struggle with.
44:56And I will do it.
44:58But I've just...
45:00It's going to be hard.
45:02Your worms are good.
45:04Even the most skilled survival specialist has to adapt.
45:11I may leave this one open as a poop hole.
45:15It's a poop hole.
45:21Okay.
45:22I'll be there.
45:38Ta-dah!
45:40That is the northern wall and door of the shelter thatched.
45:52So much of the weather blows in from the north here.
45:56It's blocking out the lion's share of it, that's for sure.
45:59I think it looks good. I think it looks good.
46:03Proud of it.
46:05I'm gonna take my lions in now.
46:08I really don't feel like going out and doing that,
46:11but that is what I'm gonna do.
46:21It's just a tiny bit of movement on the lion,
46:24and it looks like the lion's in a slightly different position.
46:29You never know.
46:31I don't want to get my hopes up too high,
46:34but there's a chance there's something on the lion.
46:40All right, yeah, my hopes are up.
46:42My hopes are up.
46:47A little bit of weight, I think.
46:51Not fighting, if it is anything, though.
46:53It's an eel.
46:59It's an eel.
47:00It's an eel.
47:01It's an eel.
47:06Get in there, buddy.
47:07Get in there. Head first.
47:09Quick, quick, quick, quick, quick.
47:11Oh, man, that was such a big head spin.
47:21I honestly nearly just passed out.
47:23Oh!
47:24Yelp! Yelp!
47:28Thank you, God.
47:32There we go.
47:34Oh, man, he just slips out like crazy.
47:38There he is.
47:42I got an eel.
47:44How does it feel to get an eel?
47:50And I'm gonna give him a knock on the head.
47:54And then he will be dead.
47:58And then I will be well fed.
48:03I could have been going hungry instead.
48:07But instead, I'm gonna be well fed when I'm in bed.
48:14His head is as flat as a pancake.
48:17I've got my net.
48:21I've got my net.
48:24And it's full of an eel.
48:26Yes, it is.
48:33To get to day 20 without a run on the board
48:35and then to get an eel alone,
48:37it's just such a gift.
48:41Whoa, it's still pretty slippery.
48:43For the very first time since I hopped off that boat,
48:49there's been a timer counting down
48:52how much my body can handle.
48:55And just now, that timer, the pause button, has hit.
49:04Yeah, I don't know what the caloric value is
49:08or it's one or two days food or three days.
49:11I've got no idea.
49:13There we go.
49:16Just coming off like a big sock now.
49:21But more than that, it's just confirmation
49:25that what I'm doing or working towards
49:29is working and can work.
49:32And it's so hopeful.
49:33Yeah, that's just so encouraging.
49:35You know, the meal tomorrow's going to be great.
49:38Celebrate.
49:40So, feeling super blessed, super thankful.
49:42Have a good night.
49:43God bless.
49:45Hope my family's doing amazing.
49:47Love you guys.
49:48Love you guys.
49:49Love you guys.
49:52I hope my family's doing amazing.
49:55Love you guys.
49:56Love you guys.
50:06Alone Australia, powered by Kia.
50:08It's the ultimate human endurance challenge.
50:11The battle is on to survive alone
50:13in the rugged Tasmanian wilderness
50:15with the winner taking home a prize
50:17with $250,000.
50:20It's cold up there.
50:21The sun's just peaked out here, and that's nice.
50:23It's cold up there.
50:24The sun's just peaked out here, and that's nice.
50:25Day 21.
50:26Every single day.
50:27Day 21.
50:28Every single day,
50:29it's cold.
50:30It's cold.
50:33It's cold up there.
50:35The sun's just peaked out here, and that's nice.
50:50Day 21.
50:53Every seven days, that's a rest day, so it'll take it easier today.
51:00And, oh, the sun has just popped up behind that hill.
51:06Oh, and that is lovely.
51:15Yesterday was a good day.
51:17Finished the northern wall, basically, on the shelter.
51:22And caught an eel.
51:26So today I'm gonna light the fire up and lit the fire for the best part of a week.
51:34Come on, honey. Come on.
51:38And cook it up.
51:41Oh, man.
51:45After just a 21 days, taste some meat.
51:53Oh, and it's right there.
51:55I can pick it up and eat it this second.
51:59It's right there.
52:01Not swimming around at the bottom of a lake.
52:05It's not hopping around the scrub.
52:07It's in my pot, and it's ready to try.
52:09Get that looking schmick as a rat with a gold tooth.
52:13Let's have a look at this little tail bit.
52:17Give it a try.
52:21Tough for the most fish, but plenty sweet.
52:35Mmm.
52:36Sun shining on my face.
52:45Sound of running water in that inlet over there.
52:51And the taste of eel in my mouth.
53:03Just so hurry up.
53:05What a good day.
53:07What a good day.
53:09What a good day.
53:11I'm slipping into a bit of a routine.
53:33Which isn't a bad thing.
53:35Like, it's not a bad routine.
53:38Throwing a few lines in the water, then checking the traps.
53:42Resetting them because of the winds.
53:49Live trapping is hard.
53:51Unless you're there quickly.
53:53They can find a way to chew or dig or claw their way out.
54:00I'll check them every day, a couple times a day.
54:08Okay.
54:09Um.
54:10I'm out checking the traps.
54:11And the trap in Wallaby Marshland is completely gone.
54:27There's just...
54:28There's just...
54:31That string.
54:34Where the trip wire was attached to.
54:36And everything else is gone.
54:38Which means...
54:43It worked.
54:44And...
54:45There's a Wallaby...
54:47Hopefully still...
54:48With the net somewhere.
54:52There's the...
54:54Oh, there's the...
54:56Um.
54:57Uh.
54:58Uh.
54:59The...
55:00The...
55:01Wait.
55:02Lock.
55:03Um.
55:04Uh.
55:05Uh.
55:06Oh my god.
55:08Oh my god.
55:09Uh.
55:10Uh.
55:11Uh.
55:12Uh.
55:13Uh.
55:14Uh.
55:15Uh.
55:16Uh.
55:17There's the Wallaby Street.
55:19Oh, there's a glove.
55:38Oh, there's a glove.
55:45This is somewhere.
55:48It's...
55:50I could have won't be.
55:52Hopefully it's still in the net.
56:08Where is it?
56:13Where is it?
56:14Where is it?
56:29There it is.
56:31Oh, can you see it?
56:38Just...
56:40Just there.
56:42Oh, my God.
56:45He's tackled up pretty good.
56:48Oh, he's stuck out.
56:50I don't have a rock.
56:52I don't have a rock.
56:54Okay.
57:00Oh, that's not a very big rock.
57:03Countdown, count.
57:06Countdown.
57:07Countdown.
57:11Oh, my God.
57:14Wow.
57:15Ooh!
57:19Wow!
57:20Wow.
57:21Wow.
57:22Wow.
57:23Wow.
57:24Wow!
57:25Wow!
57:26Wow!
57:29Wow!
57:30Wow!
57:31Wow!
57:32Get out!
57:44Get, get, get, get, get, get, get!
57:47Stomach is turning.
57:49Oh, had a drink and I speared it all straight back out.
57:53I know I have to catch a fish.
57:56I don't know what to do.
57:57Oh, for dumbass!
57:59Fucking see this.
58:00I had a couple of flat days and I wasn't well.
58:05I still don't have any energy.
58:06Like, I'm still just zapped.
58:09250,000?
58:11I might enter this race.
58:12I just need to get in with you.
58:15All right, thanks.
58:18I'm still here.
58:20I'm still like this.
58:25I know this one.
58:26You
