00:00A father rescued his two daughters from a vehicle before it became fully submerged in
00:14the Ohio River.
00:16This happened right when they were celebrating the 4th of July, I guess.
00:23The dad is the one to blame.
00:26Okay.
00:26He stepped out of the car for a second, put it in neutral, and it rolled into the water
00:30with his kids inside.
00:32But that's when, of course, he realized he had to step in and rescue them.
00:35Here's his story now from Fox 19.
00:37Take a listen.
00:39Well, you're going to hear all about this incident in just a moment, but I want to start this
00:43report off by saying I was able to talk to the father earlier today, Harley Day, who tells
00:47me everyone involved is okay and there are no life-threatening injuries.
00:52The only thing going through my mind was, you know, if my kids were all right and what,
00:59how I was going to get them back to shore.
01:01A father's immediate thoughts after being dragged and ran over by his own car, almost
01:07completely submerged in the river.
01:09I wasn't worried about my vehicle then or myself.
01:14I was just worried about the safety of my kids.
01:17Oh, my God.
01:18This all happened right before the fireworks started at English Park in Owensboro.
01:23Day says it happened all too quickly.
01:25I had stepped out just for a second to ask my fiancee something, which was sitting on the
01:30ground next to the truck.
01:33And within the time that I shut the door and looked over the front of my car to speak to
01:41her, my youngest, Abby, decided to put the truck into neutral.
01:49That's when Day says he tried to stop the car but fell and then was ran over and pulled
01:54into the river.
01:55Uh, my, my side is very sore from being drugged across the concrete and having that much weight
02:02on me.
02:02I, I do believe my elbow is broke.
02:05I'm disformed and it's all cut up.
02:07His quick response plus help from those nearby saved the lives of both of his daughters.
02:12If it wasn't for them per dextrians.
02:15Per dextrians?
02:17Did he say per dextrians?
02:19We're going to have to go back and listen to everything he said.
02:21I think he said per dextrians.
02:22He said per dextrians.
02:25That's an alternate Ohio way of saying per dextrians.
02:28Yeah.
02:29Oh my God.
02:30I have to go to this place.
02:32I have to go to this place.
02:33Chuck, your voice sounds just like him.
02:36It's just, it's totally the voice you do.
02:37From those nearby, saved the lives of both of his daughters.
02:40Here we go.
02:41If it wasn't for them per dextrians.
02:43Per dextrians.
02:44The truck might have sank with the kids inside.
02:47I tried my best to get them on top of the roof.
02:50But I can't like this guy.
02:52And now, after the incident has finally set in, another obstacle.
02:56We had a month's worth of diapers for three kids.
03:00Because I have a baby boy, which wasn't in the truck.
03:04We lost formula.
03:05We lost social security cards, birth certificates.
03:09Social security cards?
03:10Medicaid cards, cash.
03:13They carry everything in the freezer.
03:14That's my only way to make money.
03:18Because I'm a delivery driver with Pizza Hut.
03:21So I lost my job.
03:23Possessions lost, but lives saved.
03:26Okay, hold on a second here.
03:29So many things going on.
03:30So many things.
03:31We need to break it down.
03:33I believe they're trying an insurance scam.
03:35Saying they had everything they own in that vehicle.
03:38And it's GoFundMe too, right?
03:39They have a GoFundMe.
03:40Yeah, I mean, I'm sure they will.
03:42Yeah, they're hitting all the stuff.
03:45They're hitting everything.
03:46It's like my entire life was in that car.
03:48Everything.
03:49All my grandma's ancient jewelry.
03:51There's a bunch of ancient Egyptian artifacts in there I had.
03:55Really?
03:55All in your vehicle?
03:56Several royal scepters from the 16th century.
03:58Golf clubs?
03:59Golf clubs.
04:00There was at least a milk crate full of gold bars.
04:04Wow, gold bars too, all inside the car.
04:06That's right.
04:07You had three months worth of diapers?
04:09Diapers, formula, social security cards.
04:17I can't.
04:20It's all destroyed.
04:22It is lucky you didn't hit a pedestrian.
04:25Those pedestrians were everywhere.
04:26And at first they seemed like a hazard.
04:28But then they ended up being helpful.
04:30What did he say before that?
04:33There was something else.
04:34There was something else.
04:36Did he hurt his elbow?
04:37Oh, yeah.
04:38Oh, yeah.
04:38Disformed.
04:39Disformed.
04:40His elbow was disformed.
04:42Oh, my God.
04:42Disformed my elbow, as you can see.
04:44Oh, my God.
04:45That's your dad, kids.
04:46Guys, you guys.
04:48That's your dad.
04:49They're usually fertile.
04:50Yeah, he's got three already.
04:52He's got three already.
04:53What do you think his grand total is before it's all said and done?
04:56Nine?
04:56Eight.
04:57Yeah.
04:59Oh, that's a good over-under right there.
05:01Well, he lost all his cards, so I hope he's able to prove his identity.
05:05Seven years worth of diapers in there.
05:10Please go to my GoFundMe.
05:12And how many kids does he have total?
05:14Three.
05:15Three?
05:16Yeah.
05:17Harley.
05:19Oh, Harley.
05:20With the voice of Chuck.
05:21I don't have any more kids.
05:22Please, Harley.
05:23No.
05:23Oh, come on, Harley.
05:24I have so many.
05:25Go do something about it.
05:29Thankfully, everyone survived.
05:31You need to get a vasectomy.
05:32I don't know what he would call it.
05:37A vasectomy.
05:38You don't want to have kids anymore, so you're going to have a vasectomy.
05:41A vasectomy.
05:43Oh, okay.
05:45So you can stop producing children.
05:47That's right.
05:48Yep.
05:48You don't want to have kids.
05:49Yep.
05:49Let's go.
05:50Let's go.
05:51Let's go.
05:51Let's go.
