00:00We got Taz Taylor, man, Internet Money, Joey Franchise here.
00:03Oh, God.
00:04Let me just say, dog, I just came from Puerto Rico,
00:07and Before the Storm was legit the soundtrack for that entire weekend
00:13that I was there.
00:14So thank you for that.
00:15Appreciate it, man.
00:16That means a lot.
00:17I have no idea.
00:18Made some amazing memories to a lot of songs off that album.
00:22For real.
00:23I love it.
00:23My girl loves Lemonade, by the way.
00:26Like, I never really grasped, like, the entire vibe
00:32until she played it on repeat as she was, like, cleaning the house one day,
00:37and I'm walking in, and I'm just like, why?
00:39Like, this sounds familiar.
00:41I know I've heard this song before.
00:42She's like, yeah, it's Internet Money, Don Toliver, Nav, and Gunna,
00:46and I'm just like, yo, why have I never banged this, like,
00:50as much as I should be right now?
00:52And it's legit my favorite song.
00:54I'm happy we're playing it on the radio, and salute to you for going platinum, bro.
00:57Thank you, man.
00:58It means a lot for real, man.
00:59You know, like you said, Florida love.
01:01We in the building.
01:02For sure, man.
01:02It's been a lot going on since we last connected when we was over in a bar
01:08with Tali Yahweh and them.
01:10Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:11I remember.
01:12That's a fact.
01:13So tell me, how hard was it making this album?
01:16Because I know it's been popping right now together and on these records.
01:22Was it a tough, you know, situation to kind of get them, you know,
01:25to send verses in or in the studio, what have you?
01:29No, because Corona, everybody's, like, willing to work right now,
01:31you know what I mean?
01:31Because they're not touring.
01:32There's not a whole lot else going on.
01:34So it's just a lot of, like, people trying to be productive
01:36and have stuff open for whenever Corona opens up.
01:38You know what I mean?
01:39People have stuff to go perform and play.
01:41So a lot of people are just open and willing to work
01:43and willing to, like, down to collaborate, whatever it is that I need.
01:47You know what I mean?
01:49No doubt.
01:49And, you know, you having a musical background, actually, you know,
01:53are these guitar riffs on Lemonade, is that you?
01:56Nah, it's not me playing guitar.
01:57It's my producer, Alec Wigdahl.
01:59Okay.
02:00But I wrote Lemonade with Jazzy and Johnny UConn in 2017.
02:04Don did his version of it in 2018.
02:07Found out about it in 2020.
02:09And then we went and reproduced it, and I had my boy Alec Wigdahl play guitar
02:12and do the whole thing.
02:13But, yeah, man, classic vibes.
02:15Some real, like, red hot chili pepper type guitar vibes.
02:18Like, it's a good vibe for sure.
02:21You know, very well executed, my guy.
02:23And also, like, Don Tolliver has an infectiously amazing voice already.
02:30And I just felt like y'all added, I don't know,
02:33what y'all sprinkled in that record that just makes it hit,
02:36like, really hit the heart.
02:38Yeah.
02:39Man, it's – honestly, it's just a formula, man.
02:42It's a good record.
02:42It's a good chord progression.
02:45It's up-tempo.
02:45People can dance to it.
02:46It has, like, the hit moments for, like, TikToks and everything like that,
02:50like, going viral and trending.
02:51So it's just, like, an overall good record.
02:53It gets catchy, stuck in your head.
02:54One of the best hooks of the year.
02:56And now, was it – did you guys get the verse – did you originally have
03:01Roddy Ricch in mind before the remix that came out?
03:03Or was that something that Roddy's like, yo, I need to get on this.
03:06Like, y'all can make something for me?
03:08I wanted Roddy to be on the original, but I just couldn't get a hold of him
03:11at the time.
03:11Like, I don't know if he was just, like, taking a vacation or whatever.
03:14But at the time I needed out, I couldn't get it done.
03:17And whenever they said, yo, you can do a remix if you want to do a remix,
03:19I was like, you know what, I will do a remix.
03:21So I was like, I want to put Roddy on it.
03:23So I reached out to Roddy.
03:25He responds, like, man, I'm in Mexico, like, just vibing,
03:28doing whatever, working.
03:30This is, like, my favorite song out here right now.
03:32So he's like, I love to do it.
03:33He came back to L.A.
03:34We got in the studio the next night.
03:36He cut it.
03:37And, you know, here we are.
03:39That's cool.
03:40And, you know, you gave Don Toliver, you let him get some on that remix, too,
03:45which was really dope.
03:46Another record, though, that stood out, too, to me was Blast Off
03:51with Trippie and Juice.
03:53Tell me what it was like.
03:54Was it getting that Juice verse?
03:56Was that a previous one that, you know, y'all had in the can somewhere?
03:59How did that come about?
04:00Yeah, so I was kind of like, like, whenever I did my label deal with 10K,
04:05that's where Trippie is.
04:06I did my label venture there.
04:08I kind of got close with Trippie over that time.
04:10And whenever I put out the Somebody record with Tekka and A Boogie,
04:14like, people were like, yo, when you dropping out in reality,
04:16like, I wasn't even out most.
04:18I wasn't even, like, taking records or trying to keep records.
04:21And Trippie gave me that record, I think, like,
04:24four days before Juice passed or something.
04:27And, like, I was working on a version to send to, like,
04:29Juice's camp and everything because him and Juice did that record.
04:32But the beat got sold or something happened originally.
04:35So he's like, yo, if you want to reproduce this or whatever,
04:37you can have it.
04:38And I was just like, all right, better.
04:39I did it.
04:39So we went and reproduced it, everything.
04:42And then that happened.
04:43So it just was on ice for a while.
04:45And then, you know, I mean, Juice's team.
04:50So shout out Bibi and everybody.
04:51And they were just, like, really receptive with the record
04:53and really cool with it.
04:54And they just understood how much it meant to us.
04:56Like, it's kind of, like, closing the chapter on, like, a book.
04:58You know what I mean?
04:58Like, it just means a lot.
05:01I know it means a lot to DT.
05:02It means a lot to Nick.
05:03And just, like, for us to kind of, like, tell the story of Juice
05:06and Anna Money, like, on our album and doing that whenever, like,
05:09we gave him Lucid Dreams and all the girls are the same.
05:11These records, like, it's, like, beautiful in a way.
05:14You know what I mean?
05:14It means a lot to all of them.
05:16No, it was definitely a great tribute, man.
05:18And y'all definitely did right by him on that record.
05:20But now, too, with the album, now, you say you weren't even in album mode.
05:27Like, this wasn't even – when did it become a thing where, you know,
05:31then we got enough stuff to put out?
05:32And how do you pick the records?
05:36Man.
05:36You got to put out so much good stuff.
05:38Yeah, yeah.
05:38It was June.
05:39So June this year, right?
05:41And I was just like, man, I'm not going to lie.
05:43I was a little influenced.
05:44Like, a little bit of drinking weed, whatever, smoking drink.
05:47It would be like that.
05:48It would be like that.
05:49And then I was just like, you know what?
05:51Why haven't we put out an album?
05:53Like, what is this?
05:54So literally the next day, I reached out to my, like, my publisher.
05:57I was like, yo, like, I'm doing an album.
05:59So if there's any songs that I've done over time that you remember
06:01that, like, you really like the hooks, whatever, let's start on them.
06:04He's like, what about Lemonade?
06:05I'm like, yeah, what about Lemonade?
06:06He's like, you know Don cut it, right?
06:07I'm like, nah, I didn't know.
06:08And he sent me the Don version that's, like, two years old.
06:11And I was like, well, give me the acapella.
06:12And I took the acapella with just Don, and we just remade it.
06:16You know what I mean?
06:16And then from that moment, whenever we played the guitar with Don's
06:19acapella going, and you just hear the guitar going, that's why I was like,
06:22man, like, it's album time.
06:23Like, we're here.
06:24Like, this is the song.
06:25This is the one.
06:26You know what I mean?
06:26So Lemonade just set it off.
06:28It was like, yeah.
06:28Lemonade set it off.
06:29Yep.
06:30And then the momentum from Lemonade, I'm like, hey, man,
06:32I feel invincible right now.
06:33Like, the first song I made for my album, this song's a hit.
06:35So I was like, let's keep going.
06:36Like, let's go get Blast Off.
06:37Let's go get whatever.
06:38And we just started putting plays together, and they just started coming in.
06:42And that's cool, man.
06:43And the dope thing about the album, and I feel like, you know,
06:46the fact that it's getting the notoriety that it deserves, and, you know,
06:50with the internet money being as big as it is right now,
06:53and definitely holding it down as far as, like, the new, how do you say,
06:57like, the super producer group.
06:59It was dope for you to showcase a lot of that new talent that, you know,
07:04is definitely on the rise and got a wave going on right now.
07:07You got, you know, freshman 24K Golden.
07:10You got Ian Dior, who I'm a big fan of.
07:12The kid, LeRoy, who I'm also a fan of.
07:14Even the way you set the tone in the beginning with Ty Fontaine.
07:18Like, you know, what was the process?
07:20Like, you kept it within this generation.
07:24I think we just wanted to mix it up and do half and half.
07:27Like, artists that really inspired us and was really a part of the thing,
07:30like Juice and all that.
07:30And then, you know, you have Ian, which is a part of our story.
07:33Like, you know, we brought and signed Ian out of Corpus Christi, Texas,
07:37built him up, do all that.
07:39And Golden, like, you know, like, we've been around Golden for a while
07:42whenever he was, like, you know, just a songwriter.
07:44And, like, obviously still an artist, like, doing that.
07:46But he, like, kind of, like, started off in L.A. as a songwriter.
07:49So we've just been around with him for a long time.
07:52Been working with him, and it's just good to see, you know,
07:54them obviously go off and go do their own things.
07:57See them succeed.
07:57But I think it's just a good time to be affiliated with Internet Money right now.
08:01You know what I mean?
08:01Like, everything we kind of get close to goes up.
08:04It's just like a good luck charm thing, man.
08:07Deadass.
08:07How do you keep the good beats to yourself?
08:11I remember Kanye used to do a rap.
08:12He was like, why did Kanye keep all the good beats to himself?
08:15Does Internet keep the good beats to themselves?
08:16I know you guys worked on NBA Young Boys' recent project,
08:20as well as many others.
08:22How do you, you know, dictate which beats goes where?
08:26Man, honestly, I have 53 producers, and just one producer makes, like,
08:30300 to 400 beats a month.
08:32Jesus.
08:32So, as you can imagine, times that, times, what, 40?
08:35I got, like, 11 artists.
08:37So it's like, you know, the cream rises to the top, man.
08:41Like, the good stuff is going to come out, and it's going to go wherever it is.
08:44Like, I'm fairly confident I have the best producers in the game
08:46and the best mindset in the game.
08:48Like, I could get in and craft a record out of anything.
08:51So it's not like people are making beats.
08:53I'm like, oh, we need to save this.
08:54Like, we got to get someone on this.
08:55It's just like, we'll do sessions with artists, and we'll play them 400 beats,
08:59and they'll pick one.
09:00We're like, all right, bet.
09:01Let's go off this vibe.
09:01This is the one.
09:02You know what I mean?
09:03And that'll be the time.
09:03They set the tone, and I just, we match it from there.
09:07Now, with Lemonade being, you know, popping and platinum and all that right now,
09:11I mean, obviously, the phone's ringing.
09:14Everybody wants a record from you guys.
09:16Is there anybody in specific that you, I know you can't let too much out the bag,
09:19but is there anybody in specific that you look forward to working with?
09:23Kanye, Travis Scott.
09:27You know, like, we did a lot of work with Cactus on the, Don Tyler being on the song.
09:31Like, we work closely with Sycamore and Autumn Boys.
09:35Post Malone and Drake, obviously.
09:39Like, I'm just trying to go big this next album.
09:41Like, as I said, you've seen the half and half.
09:43Okay, well, I kind of gave the artists that we like a spotlight.
09:46This next one's going to be more so, like, ushers in our bag.
09:50Like, all right, bet.
09:50We're going to put these songs together, and we're going to do every song like how we did Lemonade.
09:54You know what I mean?
09:54It's not going to be like, yo, let's give this kid a look.
09:56It's going to be like, yo, let's just go make a hit.
09:58Let's do 17 hits.
09:59Let's do 20 hits.
10:00Why not?
10:01You know what I mean?
10:02That ass.
10:03And you mentioned Drake.
10:04Drake, I know you guys worked on Blue Tint for Scorpion.
10:08Can we expect something from y'all on the Certified Loverboy?
10:12Honestly, bro, we didn't even know we were on Scorpion.
10:14Did I?
10:15Nah, we had no idea.
10:16So, like, everything that happens is just, like, really held under wraps.
10:19You know what I mean?
10:20And if it comes out and we're on there, like, through a loop or sample or whatever, that would be amazing.
10:25But as of right now, I haven't heard if we're on there or not.
10:27I don't know.
10:29We're just going to be all – we're all going to be surprised.
10:31Yeah, every day something else happens, man.
10:33It's just a simulation at this point.
10:36That is dope.
10:36I mean, that's crazy.
10:37I mean, the way you guys work is insane, man.
10:39Stuff just be landing anywhere at this point.
10:42And we just take – make the most of it, man, for sure.
10:44Just as long as the check clear, we straight.
10:46As long as it's clear, you know what I mean?
10:47As long as it's clear.
10:50So, lastly, how much records are left over?
10:54Is there – actually, is there enough records left over from this previous album that can go on a whole another one?
10:58Yeah, of course.
10:59Yeah, there was a bunch of records that were left over because, like, people were in the middle of their rollouts and stuff like that.
11:05So, they didn't want, like, a big record dropping on our album the minute they're about to drop a whole album.
11:10Just, like, those type of politics, you know what I mean?
11:12So, we definitely have a bunch of records left over.
11:14I'm kind of giving a couple out to, like, some of the people that, you know, like, fuck with me and inspire me.
11:19Like, just passing out records to big producers or DJs or whatever.
11:23But, yeah, man, just keeping a couple of them, putting a couple on the thing,
11:26and then just starting from scratch, doing some new shit for the next album.
11:29Copy that, man.
11:30Can't wait for the next one, man.
11:31We're going to keep bumping that before the storm.
11:33Of course, Lemonade, we rocking that over here on the radio.
11:36So, man, just salute to you and everything you got going on.
11:38Keep putting on.
11:39Yeah, appreciate it, my boy Joey, man.
11:40Whenever we out there, when I'm back in town.
11:42Yo, hit me, bro.
11:43I'm back in town.
