Zach Tuohy and Dennis Armfield after Bacchus Marsh's loss to East Point
Transcript
00:00With you, your first experience of local footy, how was it?
00:03It's nice to, like it's good-lit community here, from what I've seen so far.
00:07It was nice to reconnect with one of me mates.
00:10Don't know if I covered myself in glory today.
00:13Yeah, it's good fun.
00:14Better for the run?
00:15We didn't get the result.
00:16Better for the run?
00:17Yeah, yeah, yeah, needed.
00:18That felt like the old proper blowing the cobwebs out.
00:21But no, it was nice.
00:23What did you make of the whole day and the experience here, Good Friday football?
00:26I guess it's probably the, well, did you play Good Friday at Calvary?
00:28Probably wouldn't it.
00:30No, I don't think that was, well, you know, I can't remember.
00:34No, a real nice fight down here.
00:38Seems like a really solid club kind of values that I like associating with.
00:43But the immediate aftermath of the loss kind of makes it hard to be too.
00:49Well, what did you make out of the loss?
00:51I mean, did you feel, I mean, watching him from the sidelines, I thought it was just potentially moments.
00:56Yeah.
00:56I'm sorry, quick talk about Dennis.
00:57He seemed to think, you know, you butchered the ball a bit.
00:59So what did you make of it?
01:00Yeah, we did.
01:02I guess I didn't see a whole lot of the season last year.
01:04But from what I'm hearing, that feels like it must have been pretty significant progress for the club.
01:09Well, that game was 140 points last year.
01:11Yeah.
01:12But, yeah, I just thought as the game opened up, they looked a little bit cleaner.
01:16They set up pretty well behind the ball and we just didn't handle it very well.
01:19So it was kind of hard to know straight after a game exactly what it was.
01:23But, yeah, I felt like behind the ball they were super solid.
01:26Dennis, you mentioned to me you felt that you gave the ball up a fair bit tonight.
01:30What take us through your thoughts on the game?
01:32Yeah, look, I think, look, to East Point's credit, they brought pressure all day.
01:37And I thought, you know, we were able to handle it.
01:39We had a good patch in the middle of the game.
01:41But I thought, yeah, I just thought we didn't play the brand of football that we're used to playing in the starting opening two rounds.
01:48And, you know, to play probably, you know, I think it's a credit to our side to play a brand that I'm probably a little bit strict but not extremely happy with.
01:59And we run a team like East Point who played in a grand final to 17 points.
02:03I'm proud of the boys.
02:05We battled hard.
02:07I can't question their effort.
02:08I can't question their intensity.
02:10Yeah, I just think we sometimes miss the simple one.
02:13And when you miss the simple one and on turnovers, East Point are pretty quality, mate.
02:18But, yeah, as I mentioned to you, there was probably one cage in the first quarter.
02:22You missed a goal from probably 20 metres out.
02:24They went straight down the other end.
02:25Geordie Johnson kicks one from the boundary line.
02:27Third quarter, something very similar.
02:29Three kicks, bang, bang, bang.
02:31You know, and there's a 24-point turner and you lose the game by 17 points.
02:34Yeah, look, and I thought, you know, a couple of our boys, you know, we put in a big spoil and it just suddenly goes to them.
02:39It was, you know, a game of moments, like you said to me when we were walking out here.
02:42And I thought they capitalised.
02:44I thought their move of ground forward was a really strong one.
02:46And I thought Merritt, sort of in the third quarter, was able to sort of be the general down there.
02:52And we weren't able to stabilise that.
02:54And I thought, yeah, I asked the boys to lower our eyes a little bit against the wind.
02:58And I thought we weren't quite doing that.
03:00And that's probably a credit to East Point's pressure.
03:04It ended up becoming perceived pressure and we just blazed away a little bit.
03:07They're a good side, I mean, as you say.
03:09They're a grand final side and you've improved 20 goals on what you did to them last year.
03:12I mean, it's got to be some...
03:14Oh, look, mate, look, I know I don't have a smile on my face right now, but, you know, sometimes it's bigger than the game.
03:19I love having my good mate here, you know, alongside playing with me or under me.
03:24And just to watch him run around with a bit of freedom for the first time, even though I put some pressure on him to do some things for us.
03:29But, you know, Simon and Frankie's 200th game, mate, you know, and this, you know, I don't take this for granted.
03:36We're very grateful, mate, for showing out on a good Friday when people could be away.
03:40They've chosen to come down and watch a great quality game of football that I thought, you know, could have gone any way until the last time.
03:47Until the last time.
03:48Yeah, exactly.
03:49Yeah, of course.
