Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has criticised an American political commentator for dismissing the significance of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Southeast Asia, saying the remarks only revealed the commentator’s ignorance.

Anwar was responding to comments made by conservative pundit Bill O’Reilly, who claimed, “Malays aren’t gonna buy your stuff as they don’t have the money”—remarks that drew backlash from Malaysians who accused him of being uninformed.

Speaking to reporters after attending the Finance Ministry’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House on Friday (April 18), Anwar said such uninformed views risk fuelling xenophobia.
