00:00The final stage of Il Giro d'Abruzzo, a rolling stage, the longest of the entire race at 167
00:10kilometres from Coropoli to Isola del Gran Sasso. Up and down all day, barely a metre of flat road,
00:18but possibly a stage for a bunch sprint and an opportunity for the man in the Malle Ciclamino,
00:23Filippo Fiorelli, finally to claim a victory on Italian soil.
00:28Ante Marché's leader, Georg Zimmermann, having taken the leader's jersey, would come under pressure
00:34from a potential host of different teams looking to exert pressure on Georg Zimmermann and Ante Marché.
00:42The general classification, like all classifications in the Giro d'Abruzzo, going into the final stage, still up for grabs.
00:49Early attacks then, coming from Israel Premiotech and Pulte visit Malta.
00:53And it would take the best part of an hour before the breakaway of the day got away.
01:00Before that though, Filippo Fiorelli won the only intermediate sprint of the day ahead of Alessandro Covey and Marco Brenna
01:05to improve his general classification standing by three seconds and also to put a margin between him and Covey in the points competition.
01:13And then an eight-rider group got away.
01:16Two teams chasing, JCL team Ucchio and Ante Marché Wonti, trying to control George Bennett, who is up the road.
01:23The King of the Mountains as well, Federico Guzzo, in the move.
01:27They came over the finishing line for the first time and out onto a 60-kilometre circuit over the cobbles with the Gran Sasso Mountain behind.
01:38Federico Guzzo already secure in the King of the Mountains competition, having claimed the first climb of the day.
01:44The chase then kept the race very tight and JCL team Ucchio launched one of their GC riders, Simone Bracani, off in pursuit of the front of the race.
01:55Where the riders were beginning to attack one another.
01:59Bracani then, despite trying for 10 or 15 minutes to get across, eventually got called back into the peloton
02:06where Marco Brenna and the rest of the big favourites were watching and waiting to see whether the race would come back together again.
02:11The pressure was on all the while and Julius Johannesson with Pablo Torres launched a sudden two-up attack.
02:21George Bennett was trying to keep the momentum going at the front of the race.
02:25As Joel Suter and one or two others fell away under pressure from the Dutchman from Q36.5, Scherd Bax.
02:33Federico Guzzo, having secured the Mountains jersey, then dropped back to the bunch.
02:37Scherd Bax was called back in as Marcin Martelussi got airborne just over a bit of loose tarmac at the front of the race
02:46as they clung on to a 40-second advantage.
02:49It was then that the Dutchman Scherd Bax attacked, followed shortly afterwards by Ivo Oliveira, the winner of Stage 2.
02:56UEE Team Emirates Portuguese star getting up and working with Scherd Bax.
03:01Villafruit Bardiani, then, suddenly, realising they had to shut the gap to give Filippo Fiorelli a chance of the stage victory,
03:08started to work on the front of the bunch.
03:11Inside 10 kilometres to go, it was a stubborn and difficult gap to close.
03:16Marcin Martelussi played his part.
03:18With 5 kilometres to go, though, Scherd Bax and Ivo Oliveira still had an opportunity of seeing this one out.
03:25One after one, from the front of the bunch, riders attacked and teams tried to get themselves organised
03:31to get control over Scherd Bax and Ivo Oliveira.
03:34And heading into the final kilometre then, on the last difficulty, they still had an advantage of 20 seconds.
03:41One after the other, from behind the riders' attacks, Filippo Fiorelli trying to follow the wheels
03:45and trying to look for an opportunity to sprint to victory.
03:48But it was Ivo Oliveira, who, in the last 100 metres or so, sprinted clear of his former teammate Scherd Bax
03:54to take win number two for him at this race and win number three for UEE Team Emirates.
04:01Behind, though, Filippo Fiorelli was involved in a battle that he lost for the final place on the podium.
04:09Picking up further points, though, to secure the Maglia Ciclamino,
04:12that's Ivo Oliveira, the undisputed winner of the final stage of the Giro d'Abruzzo.
04:16Ahead of Scherd Bax and Giovanni Bottoluzzi, with a fantastic third place.
04:23Georg Zimmermann then, under pressure all day, managed to hang on to his 11-second lead
04:26over David de la Cruz and Pablo Torres in the general classification.
04:30And Filippo Fiorelli, the winner of the points classification,
04:34despite failing to win a stage, much to his frustration.
04:37The King of the Mountains, for a second successive day and a final day, Federico Guzzo,
04:45winning by 12 points ahead of Samuele Zoccarato.
04:49And the white jersey, and third place on the podium in the general classification,
04:53going to UEE Team Emirates young star, Pablo Torres, just 19 years of age.
04:58We'll see you next time.
