00:00Need $700,000
00:02On November 6, 2015, a Reddit user named Bangarang made a deeply concerning and odd post on the
00:09site reading,
00:10Need $700,000.
00:12What do I do?
00:13I need it by January 2016 or I'm dead from the mob.
00:16What are my options though?
00:18Now, if this was posted in subreddits like r slash advice or r slash help me, people
00:22would have taken it more seriously.
00:24However, for whatever reason, Bangarang decided to post this plea for help in r slash sad
00:29boys.
00:30This is a subreddit for the fans of the sad boys music collective that emerged in the
00:34early 2010s, primarily associated with Swedish rapper Young Lean and his music group sad boys.
00:40So, a completely unrelated post like this left most people confused about what it meant.
00:44Not sure if this is real.
00:46So confused.
00:47What is this?
00:49Some users wondered if this was some obscure reference to sad boys music.
00:53Is this a reference to Lean being worth $700,000?
00:56However, most users quickly realized that Bangarang was serious when he began responding to some
01:01of the less serious joke comments with sincere replies.
01:05Let me ghostwrite your next mixtape.
01:07I need all the help I can get.
01:08But that's when the post took a disturbing turn.
01:11One user jokingly told the OP to end it by jumping off a bridge and shoot himself while
01:15falling.
01:16However, instead of getting offended, Bangarang replied with something that made everything
01:20way more unsettling.
01:22Think they'll get to me before I can make any moves.
01:25Alongside this, he posted a link to an eerie photo.
01:28A group of men standing in the middle of a street with multiple cars lined up behind them.
01:32The way the photo was framed suggested that OP took it while hiding in the bushes, as if
01:37he was watching from a distance, afraid to be seen.
01:39At this point, people wanted answers.
01:41And after some back and forth in another thread, Bangarang finally explained what had gotten
01:46him into this situation.
01:47Was involved in a fight where an 18-year-old kid was killed.
01:51I was on drugs and had a bad temper.
01:53I was always protective of my friends, especially John.
01:56John was in a band and was taking off.
01:58He had a Facebook page, so he deactivated it.
02:01He made a new one.
02:02One of his friends that made a new one got real mad that he deleted the old page and
02:05thought he didn't want anything to do with her or his old friends because of the new
02:09fame and band.
02:10John tried to explain to her that wasn't the case.
02:12When he tried to, I peered over John's shoulder, read their texts,
02:16and got heated.
02:17I started trash-talking the girl.
02:18She got her boyfriend's friends to meet me and my friends out in the desert for a
02:22brawl.
02:23One of the guys there was with the gang member's guys group and pulled out a gun to shoot me
02:27and my friends.
02:28One of my friends grabbed the gun from him and ended up shooting the guy and killing
02:31him, the dude that pulled out the gun in the first place.
02:34Then, after the fight, I violated my probation.
02:37The cops were already after me for drug use.
02:39They found out I was involved in the fight and the shooting of the guy and they added the
02:42battery charge.
02:43I wasn't charged with murder but was involved in the fight, which is
02:46why they added assault and battery charges, plus the probation violation.
02:49But I continued with drug use and violated my probation by leaving the state.
02:53Now I'm sobered up.
02:54I just turned 23 and I'm in a real bad place with some people from the past.
02:58While these responses provided some important context for OP's situation, it still didn't
03:03explain why the mob was after him now or how having $700,000 would help him stay alive.
03:08By this point, people had stopped joking.
03:10It was clear that this was most likely real.
03:13One user finally spoke up, saying what everyone else was thinking.
03:16First of all, why are you posting this here?
03:18Second, run, get out of town.
03:20To which OP replied, I got no one.
03:24After learning about his sheer helplessness, user pizzaman2345 chimed in with some detailed
03:29and practical advice to help Bangrang escape with his life.
03:33Get yourself into jail and tell them to safely escort you to an airport afterwards.
03:37If you warn them about the mob and spread the word, the police will look stupid if you
03:40die soon afterwards.
03:42Then, if you do get to the airport, take several planes to several places and settle down somewhere
03:46far away.
03:47No matter how uncaring a police department is, they should listen to your plea for help.
03:51It might also help if you have a writer friend who can tell the whole story if they
03:54don't escort you.
03:55Let the police know, as a last resort, that they will be flamed online for not dealing with
04:00the mob themselves and for letting you loose, only for you to die right after.
04:03This, of course, involves you being in jail for a while, which, if not the case, leads
04:07me to say that you should simply leave the country now.
04:10Use your head, don't drug your problems away, either work hard and loan the rest, or just
04:14run.
04:15Unfortunately, we'll never know if this advice helped him or not.
04:18A day after making the original post, Bangrang stopped replying to any more comments, and
04:22hasn't posted anything on Reddit since.
04:24As for if the story was legit or not, we have no way of knowing for sure.
04:28The Bangrang account was likely a throwaway since it was created the same day as the
04:32post.
04:32I also tried reverse image searching the picture he posted, and while there are many similar
04:36looking images online, I couldn't find anything that matches the OP picture to a
04:40T and predated the Reddit thread.
04:42And since Bangrang didn't provide any clues about his location, I couldn't find any relevant
04:46news articles from that time either.
04:48Most users under the original thread believe the OP was likely caught and killed by the mob.
04:52However, it's been over 9 years since the original post with no updates since, and I
04:57doubt we'll ever learn the truth.
05:02Dog Operation
05:03On the 31st of March, Reddit user City, State posted a disturbing entry on the Reddit Bureau
05:10of Investigation subreddit.
05:11The title of the entry was,
05:13What could have been the reason why someone operated on my dog?
05:17It read,
05:17I originally posted this to another sub, now deleted, and was insisted that I repost this
05:22here instead.
05:23I live alone in a suburban area, and when I go out, whether it's for work, social gathering,
05:28shopping, or whatever, I leave my dog.
05:30He's a Labrador to play in my backyard with plenty of food and water.
05:33He's a pretty healthy dog, normal weight, and had nothing wrong with him.
05:36I would say I live in a pretty safe neighborhood and never had anything bad happen to my dog
05:40while I was away.
05:41Yesterday, I came back home from work in shock to see that my dog had been stitched up.
05:46In shock, I immediately rushed to him, called and took him to a vet.
05:49I visit the vet for checkups so the vet knows him.
05:52Strangely, the doctor who was inspecting him said that whoever was operating on him actually
05:56did a pretty good job and for whatever reason took out part of his fat.
06:00The wounds are of both his lower and upper belly, pictures here.
06:03Luckily, he isn't in any danger, but the doctor said he would be in some pain for some weeks,
06:08normal for wounds.
06:09I was prescribed painkillers and antibiotics for my dog.
06:12I was also given a cone for him to wear so he wouldn't lick his wounds.
06:16Naturally, I asked him if a Labrador came into the vet today, as in yesterday, and he
06:20and the receptionist said no, and they said to their memory it's the first time they saw
06:24my dog that day.
06:25So, this got me and my doctor thinking, either someone operated on him or someone took him
06:29to another vet and got him operated for whatever reason.
06:32In the meantime, I have reported this to the police and have called other vets around my
06:36town and no luck as of yet.
06:38Due to this, I am still unsure what could have caused this.
06:41Who and why would someone take parts of fat out of my dog?
06:44I don't have any enemies nor any past relationship partners come to mind who may do this.
06:49I've also spoken to some neighbors and they said they didn't notice anything strange around
06:53the neighborhood or near my house.
06:55I also don't have any cameras.
06:57People on Reddit quickly began speculating on what could have happened.
07:00Some wondered if this was the work of a medical student looking to practice, or a budding
07:04serial killer.
07:05However, neither of these makes much sense.
07:08No sane medical student would risk ruining their career by operating on a random dog when
07:12there are safer options like ethically sourced cadavers.
07:15As for the potential serial killer theory, why would they cut open a dog only to stitch it
07:20back and return it to the owner instead of just disposing of the body?
07:23But there were some more reasonable theories as well, stating that the dog must have injured
07:28its stomach while jumping over the fence.
07:30Someone then saw the wounded dog and took it to the vet for treatment before leaving
07:33it back in OP's yard.
07:35Or maybe the dog successfully jumped over the fence only to get hit by a car, and the
07:39person driving the car took it to the vet and dropped it off after the operation.
07:43However, a major flaw in both theories is why the person who took it to the vet didn't
07:47leave a note explaining the situation.
07:49If it was an accident, maybe the person didn't want to get in trouble.
07:52But even then, leaving an anonymous note would have been the right thing to do.
07:55Some users also considered the possibility that someone might have shot the dog with
07:59a pellet gun, either by accident or on purpose.
08:02A comment from user Bananaphone quickly rose to the top as it offered a more plausible explanation
08:07for what might have happened during the OP's absence.
08:10That rubber thing sticking out appears to be a Penrose drain, which is most commonly used
08:14to allow a wound to weep and drain through the hole where it comes out of the skin, which
08:18prevents the skin from closing into a pocket and turning into a huge infected abscess, which
08:23requires secondary treatment and antibiotics.
08:25This is most commonly seen in my personal and professional experience after bites from
08:29another animal, as the bacteria in dog-slash-cat mouths can be difficult to totally disinfect
08:34after the fact and often leads to abscesses.
08:37While the general consensus is that dog mouths are cleaner than cats, there's still plenty
08:41of bacteria in your average dog's mouth that could lead to infection.
08:45That drain will need to be removed in a few days to a week after the risk of infection
08:48has passed.
08:49My guess would be, with the size of the incision, another dog got into a fight with yours, whether
08:54it jumped the fence into your backyard and picked the fight itself, or somehow your dog
08:57was accidentally able to be out of his fence, and the owner felt guilty but did not want
09:01to get sued or put their dog down.
09:03I double this hypothesis because if they put him back, they knew where he lives, and that
09:06means he was probably inside the fence when the incident occurred, and hiding the conflict
09:10probably means his dog has a history of aggression, to the point where it jumped your fence
09:14and attacked.
09:14I suspect a pellet slash gunshot less because anyone who would shoot a dog in its own yard
09:19is probably not going to have the moral compass to get it treated.
09:22Another user, Decent Writer, also backed this theory with a personal anecdote, reading,
09:27I'm almost 100% sure someone who has a dog with a bite history attacked your dog and
09:32they did not want to get caught.
09:33I have a dog with a bite history.
09:35If he bit someone or an animal a second time, it would be disastrous, and myself and my partner
09:39would both be in jail.
09:41They likely got off with a small charge the first time and are on probation, already paid
09:45out a ton of money to whoever was the first victim, and cannot risk a second person suing
09:49them.
09:49We've been going through the process for our one dog bite for over two years.
09:53It has been miserable every single step of the way, and I'm sure that's what has happened
09:56here.
09:57I'm sorry, it sucks so much.
09:59Hopefully they feel guilty and come forward to you one day.
10:02In which case, you have two years from the day of the incident to sue them in a civil
10:05court case.
10:06I know this because I'm on the other side of that civil lawsuit as we speak.
10:10That said, after further questioning from other users, the OP shared additional details
10:14about the situation, debunking many of these theories in the process.
10:18Edit, people have been asking about my fencing.
10:20I'm about 5'8", and the main fencing is taller than me.
10:24The side fence is about half my height.
10:26However, there are other properties around those fencing.
10:29So if another dog, for example, got in, I would think the neighbors would have noticed,
10:33as the other dog would have needed to go through their properties first before reaching mine.
10:37People also are asking if my dog is known for jumping over stuff.
10:41No, he's not.
10:42So that's why I don't think he hurt himself while jumping over the fence.
10:45But that doesn't mean another dog jumped over to him.
10:48One of my neighbors, right next to the one of my shorter fence, has a dog of his own.
10:52But it's a small poodle, and I don't think they could have done that to a Labrador.
10:56Plus, neither of them has shown aggression to each other, from what I've seen.
10:59They usually don't even pay each other's mind.
11:01No other organs are missing, according to the vet, just the fat removal.
11:05It was not a car crash.
11:06He has no bones broken, bruises, or anything like that.
11:09There was blood, but only around him, normal amount, not anything crazy.
11:13So either someone did it and cleaned it, or it was done elsewhere.
11:16The picture was taken the day after the vet, the day I made this post, after they examined
11:20and gave him a proper clean around the wounds.
11:22At least one of my neighbors in the surrounding fencing has a camera, to my knowledge.
11:26The footage has been examined by the police and myself, and we couldn't see anything out
11:30of the ordinary.
11:31The police said they will be going around to see for any other footage.
11:34However, with this additional information, the OP mentioned something that made many people
11:38question whether any of this was real to begin with.
11:41They mentioned that they were gone out for work from 10am to 3pm, for 5 hours.
11:46Which is not typically enough time for someone to take their dog to a vet, get a complete
11:51surgery, and drop it back without getting caught.
11:53As one user pointed out,
11:55This whole thing strikes me as suspicious.
11:58I've worked in both private practice and ER.
12:00OP says they were gone for 5 hours.
12:03Even if it happened right when they left, 5 hours is a really short amount of time for
12:07this size of wound repair when you factor in anesthesia, sedation, clipping, cleaning, sometimes
12:12takes longer than the actual sutering to remove hair, debris, dirt, etc.
12:16Then flushing and cleaning the wounds, cutting the skin to remove sections that wouldn't
12:20heal well, then actually sutering it, including drains, post-anesthesia-slash-sedation recovery.
12:26White dogs plus a bunch of blood requires a bath to remove all the blood.
12:30Not to mention the time it takes to get the dog there, check the dog in, get consent for
12:34treatment, discharging and explaining meds, paying for it, getting the dog back to OP's
12:39yard.
12:40But this makes me wonder if it could have been done in this time frame if the surgery wasn't
12:44done in a professional veterinary hospital.
12:46Maybe the person involved in the incident had a surgical background and did everything
12:50themselves off the books.
12:52However, this is all speculation, and unfortunately not long after this update, the OP deleted
12:56their account and didn't post any new updates on what happened.
12:59But before that, the OP did make a post stating that the police were investigating this as a
13:03criminal case.
13:04However, given their complete silence over the past 4 years, it's unlikely we'll learn
13:08if anything ever came of that.
13:10Fraudulent Nurse
13:15On January 16th, 2021, user PaganPrincess22 made a Reddit post recounting her strangely
13:22terrifying experience at a hospital.
13:24The post read,
13:25Hello everyone, I'm not sure if this is the correct place, so please feel free to direct
13:38me to a better subreddit if there is one.
13:40I flared it as a cold case because it happened 23 years ago, but there were no charges filed
13:44to my recollection, and I don't remember a case being made from it.
13:48This is a strange story, and I was 5, maybe 6 when it happened, so I don't have a lot of
13:53the details.
13:55I had recently told my younger sister about this story, and she encouraged me to look
13:57into the incident more and see if I could find out either who this person was or if
14:01there was a larger pattern of behavior during the time frame.
14:04I'm interested in any information you all have to offer slash can find on the matter,
14:08as I truly just want to satisfy some curiosity.
14:10I'm 99% sure any statute of limitations is up, and I'm not interested in reporting something
14:15so weird and from so long ago to the police for them to tell me there's nothing that can
14:19be done.
14:20Now, on to the story.
14:21When I was around 5 or 6, I got a pretty bad nosebleed that wouldn't stop.
14:25I eventually started throwing up big clots of blood as well, and my mother took me to
14:29the ER.
14:30This would be in slash around the Sunman or Indianapolis area in Indiana, USA, but I do
14:35not know the name of the hospital.
14:36At the time, beds were separated only by curtains on ceiling racks and not individual walled rooms.
14:42My mother had left my room to speak to a doctor, I think, I know she left, and a woman
14:47I did not know came in shortly after she left.
14:49She was white, had medium brown hair, and looked to be in her 20s or 30s.
14:54She was wearing a blue scrub shirt with puppy dogs on it and unmatched pants.
14:58I want to say she was not wearing scrub pants, but rather jeans or maybe sweatpants.
15:02I know they did not match her shirt, which stood out to me.
15:05The other nurses and doctors I saw only wore solid colored scrubs and were all matched.
15:09She said she needed to take some blood and pull the tools to do so from her scrub pockets,
15:14not a phlebotomy card.
15:15She stuck me and started drawing blood, somewhere around 5-7 vials of it, but potentially more.
15:21On the last vial, we heard my mom and a doctor coming back towards the room.
15:25She hurriedly ripped the tube from my arm before the last vial was full.
15:28It spilled some blood.
15:29She did not give me a band-aid or gauze, she just left me bleeding and shoved everything
15:33back into her pocket, then ran from the room.
15:36She ran to the left and my mom and doctor entered from the right.
15:39The doctor said a nurse would be with me soon to draw some blood and run some tests.
15:43I told him a lady had already taken my blood and he asked what she looked like and where
15:47she went.
15:48I described her, he turned wide-eyed to my mother and said,
15:51she doesn't work here and ran out of the room to the left.
15:54I heard some loud voices, there was a lot of commotion, but I don't remember anything
15:57past that point other than just feeling dizzy and now scared that some strange woman had
16:02my blood.
16:02I've never been able to find out what happened, who this woman was and if she was ever caught
16:07or if this type of thing was happening across the country at the time, I have no idea.
16:11Let me know if there's any other information I could provide to make it easier to find out
16:15what happened to my blood.
16:16Edited a typo and to add, my mother is not a great source of information when it comes
16:21to my early life or her life or anything really as she has some of her own issues.
16:25Several years ago when I was a teenager confirmed the details I remembered, then refused to talk
16:30further about it and ask me not to bring it up again.
16:33She claims she does not remember the name of the hospital, the name of the doctor,
16:36or other details I was asking for at the time.
16:39What makes this story so terrifying is how real it feels.
16:42Most children are already afraid of doctors and needles, so the idea of someone posing
16:45as a nurse to steal blood is horrifying.
16:48One user responded with a theory stating,
16:50Are there any chances that you are adopted?
16:53Suggesting that the mysterious woman was OP's real mother who wanted her blood for DNA testing.
16:58And while this is still a bit out there, it could explain why OP's mother refused to
17:02give any further information on what happened that day.
17:04However, OP shot down this theory not long after it was posted with a comment reading,
17:09I don't believe so, no.
17:10I've seen my original birth certificate and it lists my known parents as my birth parents.
17:14I also look very similar to my mom and sister.
17:16The most plausible theory came from user osnapdragon22, who suggested that OP might be
17:22misremembering details that make the situation a lot more horrifying than it actually was.
17:27Stating,
17:28Nurse here, phlebotomists sometimes wear different scrubs.
17:32It seems highly unlikely that someone stole your blood and put them in tubes.
17:36Those tubes are full of various additives for different diagnostic testing.
17:40If I were to steal your blood, I would use a bag instead.
17:43Not like I would steal blood or anything, just making a point.
17:45It seems highly weird that a civilian would have the necessary tools slash tubes to complete this
17:50lab draw.
17:51Many blood draws are done with equipment carried in scrub pockets, so not having a cart is not
17:55atypical.
17:56Supplies in hospitals, especially needles, are required to be locked per joint commission
18:01slash DNV for obvious reasons, drug users, children.
18:05Also, blood draw carts are actually an infection risk in some cases.
18:09Lastly, hospitals are extremely stranger-on-friendly.
18:12Every nurse in tech knows who's supposed to be there and who's not.
18:15Even when you're a co-worker that has been floated from another floor to assist, you are
18:19treated as an outsider and many co-workers still stop and ask you what you need slash
18:23what you're doing there.
18:25This was most likely a flashbulb memory instance as you are five and have a childlike recollection
18:30of events and said yourself that your family slash parent is a poor historian.
18:34I hope this provides some reassurance for you.
18:36I'm not trying to diminish what you're saying, just mentioning that from my experience,
18:40it seems highly implausible.
18:41P.S.
18:42A doctor saying someone doesn't work?
18:44That is also ridiculous, as doctors do rotations, don't stay on one floor permanently, and typically
18:49do not know all staff members working in a given unit at a time.
18:53Pagan Princess 22 is still fairly active on Reddit, but she hasn't posted any new information
18:58about her story.
18:59Who knows?
19:00Maybe one day her mother will come clean about what she knows and will finally learn what
19:03happened to OP on that day.
19:05Poisoned
19:10On May of 2013, a user made a chilling confession on the Off My Chest subreddit with a disturbing
19:16title that read,
19:18My mother has poisoned me.
19:20Ever since I became an adult about a decade ago, my mother has been against me moving out
19:24of the house.
19:24I finally got a job as a line cook three years ago.
19:27My mother and the rest of my family, which includes my sister and father, has been against
19:31it, mainly saying that such a job cannot sustain me, which was true.
19:35They also said I would hate working, which turned out to be false.
19:39About a year and a half later, I quit due to health reasons.
19:42The following spring, I got a new job as a computer programmer.
19:45While they seemed supportive at first, my mother and sister, who I lived with, gradually
19:48became hostile.
19:50Eventually, I moved out of the house.
19:52About a month later, I lost my job, and about three months later, moved back home.
19:56Everything was cool at first, but as I was getting calls from recruiters and going
19:59to job interviews, they gradually became more hostile again, accusing me of being distant
20:04and not caring for them.
20:05However, they seemed to be very controlling and hateful of the fact that I wanted to move
20:08out and wanted a decent job.
20:10So, last month, I finally got that job as a computer programmer again, but it was out
20:14of town.
20:15I had just enough money to relocate to the new city.
20:18They became very hostile starting a few days before I left, accusing me of not loving them,
20:22of hating them.
20:23On the day before I was scheduled to leave, my mother gave me two of the styrofoam ramen
20:27noodle cups and tore that cardboard covering that normally comes with it and threw it away.
20:32I was suspicious that they would try to sabotage my life, so I was careful in not trying to
20:36anger them.
20:37She gave me a few more food items, which I didn't use, to take on the trip with me.
20:41When I arrived at my new city and entered my hotel room, I chilled out.
20:44I was to go to work the next day.
20:46So, after the first day of work, I ate a cup of ramen noodles and felt ill.
20:50I knew that feeling because my sister fed me something that made me feel the same way in
20:54late 2011, which I then assumed was because of my recent illness.
20:58I felt weak, lightheaded, and short of breath.
21:01I drank water to make me feel better because that's what I did last time that happened to me.
21:05Over the week, my mother kept calling me, making sure to remind me to eat my ramen noodles.
21:10I was short on cash then, waiting for my first paycheck.
21:12I never told her that I ate it.
21:14I suspected then that I had been poisoned, and after doing some googling, believed it was
21:18cyanide.
21:19Now, that is something that you should never have to think that your own mother would do
21:23that to you.
21:24So, I resisted that thought because I simply could not bear to think that.
21:28So, I went to cyanidetest.com and ordered a kid, and I tried it.
21:32Now, look at the graphics and the video on this page.
21:35Now, here are the results of my test.
21:38I guess I'm going to have to call the cops, and I will never speak to my family again.
21:41The results exposed the truth the OP desperately didn't want to believe.
21:45He was being poisoned by his own family.
21:48Thankfully, the amount of poison in one cup of noodles wasn't enough to be lethal.
21:51But eating that second cup could have easily delivered a fatal dose.
21:56Luckily, he was able to escape with his life.
21:58After reading this post, the vast majority of people urged OP to contact the police and
22:02stay away from his family.
22:04And that's exactly what he did.
22:05Unfortunately, the police weren't as helpful as everyone would have hoped.
22:08Update 8.45 AM.
22:10I am currently in Topeka, Kansas.
22:12I work downtown in a government office building, which has a police department.
22:16I visited the Capitol Police Station here and spoke to an officer.
22:19I showed him the evidence, and he said he could do nothing about it since the package
22:23was opened and might have been contaminated.
22:25So, does anyone have ideas?
22:28Had things ended here, this could have gone down as one of the most unsettling mysteries
22:32in Reddit's history.
22:33But unlike other disturbing Reddit threads, this one surprisingly had somewhat of a conclusion.
22:38You see, even though this was a throwaway account, OP returned to Reddit in October of
22:422013 and gave an update on his whereabouts.
22:44I was only able to file a police report, but only that so far.
22:47The police do not have enough evidence to investigate.
22:50I have gotten no contact with my family.
22:53I currently live in a cheap motel in Topeka, Kansas.
22:56Yesterday, after getting home from work, I worked for the Kansas State Government as
23:00a software developer.
23:01The lady at the front desk told me that my mother called them to speak to me.
23:04For security reasons, the motel needs both the name and room number, and my mother didn't
23:09have my room number.
23:10She didn't even attempt to call my cell phone, which makes me believe that she just wanted
23:13to know if I was staying there and where.
23:15And, a few months later, he posted one last comment assuring everyone of his safety.
23:20And by the way, I have moved out of state since making my last thread with his account,
23:24and am doing very well with a nice job, and am in better health.
23:28To think that this story would have taken a much darker turn if the OP hadn't grown
23:32suspicious of the food his own family gave him on his way out.
23:35Missing Coworker
23:40On the 31st of July 2020, Reddit user SootheBB made a post on the Reddit Bureau of Investigation
23:46subreddit seeking clues to help locate their missing coworker.
23:50The post read,
23:51On Wednesday, July 22, a coworker of mine abruptly up and left work before the end of his shift
23:56and hasn't been seen since.
23:58One week later, a text message is received from him containing only three photos.
24:02Does anyone recognize the locations shown in these photos?
24:06I work in a lab that makes prescription eyeglasses in Northern Ohio.
24:09Last week Wednesday, about 6 hours into our 10 hour shift, around 7, 10pm, a coworker of
24:14mine got up from his station in a hurry, left his bag with personal belongings at his desk,
24:19iPad, Bluetooth headphones, a prescription, phone charger, a book, and a couple other knickknacks,
24:24and walked out the door and didn't return.
24:26No one's seen him since.
24:27Some of my other coworkers thought he was just sick of the long hours and decided to quit,
24:31but that just doesn't make sense why he'd leave behind his personal belongings and not
24:35say anything.
24:36We tried calling him that same night, but his phone would just ring until it went to the
24:38voicemail, and by the next morning his phone was turned off.
24:41My boss said he got a hold of his mom, and that she hasn't seen or heard from him, but
24:45didn't seem too concerned, as she said he had a history of living somewhat of a nomadic
24:49lifestyle in his past.
24:50She thinks he may have relapsed and owed someone money, or just ran off with some girl.
24:54Apparently they aren't very close and don't have the best relationship.
24:57I know he had a history of drug abuse, but from everything I've gathered in the two years
25:01that I've worked with him, he cleaned his life up after an arrest in 2014 or 2015 for
25:06drug possession and had been cleaned since.
25:07He always acted normal around me and seemed to be living a productive life.
25:11On the subject of the pictures, a couple days ago after work I received a group text message
25:16that was sent to me, two of my other co-workers, and six other numbers I don't recognize.
25:21It was from him and contained the three pictures I linked, no text.
25:25I tried calling and it rang once then went to voicemail.
25:28When I called again it went straight to voicemail.
25:30This whole thing has me feeling very uneasy and I don't know what to think.
25:33Does anybody here recognize the location of where these photos might have been taken?
25:38Below this was an Imgur link to these three pictures that OP supposedly received from their
25:42co-worker.
25:43All three of these pictures looked like someone had taken them in a hurry, while possibly running
25:48away from someone or something.
25:50If the OP's story was true, it painted a deeply alarming situation.
25:54However, most users remained skeptical, and as time passed, more evidence emerged suggesting
25:58that this might be a hoax or part of an alternate reality game.
26:02$5 says this turns out to be an ARG.
26:05For instance, one user tried to extract the embedded data in the three images to see if
26:09they had any GPS information, only to be met with confusion.
26:13I tried extracting the first picture's EXIF data.
26:16It says it was shot on iPhone on 7-7-2017, 13-22.
26:21It looks like the photos are in the early morning or night.
26:23Do you think the 13-22 time is right?
26:26Three years ago also.
26:27So, interesting.
26:29A few other users also pointed out significant inconsistencies in how the OP described the
26:33location, stating,
26:35Yeah, I'm not a fan that they just said Northern Ohio.
26:38Like, is it Cleveland, Akron, Toledo, Sandusky?
26:42Way too broad.
26:43Same, I'm from Toledo, and no one ever refers to Northern Ohio.
26:47Northwest Ohio, yes.
26:49Northern Ohio raised a flag for me too.
26:52I'm from Akron, and no one says that.
26:54For us, it's Northeast Ohio.
26:55A few months later in November, SootheBB returned to Reddit with a new update, and somehow things
27:01had grown even more mysterious than they were the last time.
27:04I wish I could say we found him, or at least closed up any loose ends, but I can't.
27:08Shortly after the thread was closed by the mods, a police report was indeed filed.
27:12However, in mid-September, I was one of several people that were laid off from the lab we were
27:16working at, so if there were any updates on his case after that time, I'm not aware of them.
27:20I've done several searches of his name since I left the company to see if any media outlets
27:24reported on him, but I personally haven't been able to find anything.
27:28The OP also attempted to deny the allegations that the whole thing was made up.
27:32Understandably, many people were suspect of my story, and I get that, but I assure you,
27:36I've not made anything up, nor have I exaggerated details.
27:39I got some slack in the original post for not filing a police report.
27:43I realize now that even though nobody else was willing to, I should have stepped up and
27:46done it myself.
27:47At the time, my perspective was that because I don't know this guy on a personal level
27:50outside of work, it really should be up to someone closer to him to do that, but rest
27:55assured, a report was filed.
27:57Some people did try to take things seriously, and even pointed out the strangely timed layoff.
28:01I know this might be far-fetched, but could your former company and boss somehow be involved?
28:05The guy disappears from work, your boss tells you you shouldn't worry about
28:09it, take his belongings, and refuses to access them to help find the guy.
28:12Then your boss says he filed a report, but apparently he never did, if the name doesn't
28:16come up in the databases.
28:18And finally, knowing you are investigating and possibly asking too many questions or drawing
28:22too much attention on the case, he fires you and never contacts you again about this case.
28:27I mean...
28:28However, due to the inconsistencies in Soothe BB's story, the overwhelming majority of users
28:33were convinced this was just an attempt at an ARG.
28:35I still think it's an ARG.
28:37I hope it's an ARG.
28:39No offense, OP.
28:41But we will likely never know for sure.
28:43Unfortunately, shortly after posting this update, Soothe BB deleted their Reddit account,
28:48leaving us with no way to uncover the truth.
