00:00Hello guys, we are Jungolfs. This is Panos from Jungolfs.
00:07And I'm Tasos.
00:08Exactly now, we are at my home studio. Welcome!
00:11The band began back in 2017 for just a brief time. Then we split it up and we started again in 2019.
00:36Me and Stefanos, the drummer, were the first members, the original members.
00:42And at 2020, Tasos joined.
00:47After coronavirus, we gathered, we played, so we found that we were playing nice together.
00:55We played as a power trio. I was on bass duties and vocals. Tasos was the only guitar player and Stef was on drums.
01:05Then we found another member who was, his name was Stef, just like the drummer's name, who played bass.
01:15He stayed in the band for like six months or so.
01:20And after that, came Summer in the bass duties, which is a friend of ours for a very long time.
01:29Summer joined the band at the end of 2021.
01:37Yeah, I think so.
01:39It's almost a year actually. So from November 2021, the lineup is as it is.
01:48First of all, we had recorded a demo at the summer of 2020, in which I recorded the bass and guitars.
01:59Steph recorded the drums, Tasos recorded the lead guitars. The production was done by me.
02:06We didn't care too much. You know, we just wanted to release something and it was just in the quarantine.
02:14Firstly, we thought we were planning to go to a studio to record our first demo.
02:21But then the quarantine came. Everything was closed. So we said like, oh, fuck it.
02:27We're just going to do it ourselves and not worry too much about it because it's just a demo.
02:31We just wanted to say, hello, we are here. We just exist. Hello.
02:36The artwork is made by my ex-girlfriend, the first artwork and my current girlfriend, the next two artworks.
02:46So it's all made in a DIY way.
02:51With the current lineup as a four piece, we have recorded and released two singles.
02:57The one is called Black & Star. The drums and the mastering were made at this studio at Pefkakia, here in Athens.
03:06The whole guitars, bass and vocals, I did it again in my home studio, let's say.
03:13And most of the editing?
03:14Everything else was made from the family.
03:18For the monster, the drum recordings and the mastering were done by David Prudent at Made in Hell Studios.
03:27The guitars, bass and vocals was done in here.
03:30And also the mastering was again made in Made in Hell Studios.
03:34Also with this song, we decided to have a video clip to show our work and some image.
03:42It is placed in an abandoned area.
03:49It was funny.
03:50We were only the band, the guy that shoot the video.
03:55Yeah.
03:56And my girlfriend and her brother, thank God that they were there because we couldn't have made it without them.
04:04Thank you. Thank you guys.
04:06You play the same song for five hours. It's getting a bit frustrating, but there is a good result.
04:16So yeah, it was a little bit frustrating to begin a band.
04:21Actually, we had our first show.
04:25Two times we tried to play the first jungle show and it was cancelled due to the pandemic.
04:30So we have felt this frustration a lot.
04:34The way we treated it is that we were members of a DIY studio at Omonia.
04:42So the whole quarantine, we gathered there as jungles, but also with other friendly bands and friends.
04:51And we were just jamming the whole night, just drinking beers and jamming and playing.
04:58So we had no real live action, but we found a way to, you know, just play.
05:06It was quite creative and crazy and crazy.
05:14It was difficult because we didn't have any real action, but it was creative for us because we played together.
05:21We found a way to make ourselves a band to know each other better and as musicians and as people and make nice music.
05:32Nice music.
05:34There was a calling for metal bands that we have some, how can I say it, a specific point of view.
05:41Yeah, ideology.
05:42Ideology of thinking how things should go about playing lives, DIY lives and about the ideology itself.
05:54And also very important, I think, creating a safe space for minorities in metal.
06:02Because at least in Greece, most people who are into metal music, there are not many, you know, immigrants or LGBTQ people in the scene.
06:13So one thing that we wanted to do is create a safe space for people who are into metal music and are minorities to express themselves.
06:23The first festival, which we also played, very satisfying for us because not as a band, but as members of this movement.
06:32This movement, we were there from like 11am in the morning till 6am the other day, you know, we were also into the organizing, into organizing the whole festival.
06:46So we were doubly proud of it and as a band and as members of the whole organization.
06:54Just like it says, it was a metal solidarity, people who like metal music, a lot of people there.
07:02I haven't played for that many people in my life before.
07:06And it was an amazing experience because everybody supported the other.
07:12There was no, there was no sabotage.
07:15There were conflicts and stuff like that and ego conflicts.
07:18Every band helped the other band and everyone was very helpful to one another.
07:24And actually that was one point that we wanted us as Metal Solidarity to be participation of many kinds of metal music.
07:33Not to make a festival which is for thrash bands or, you know, we wanted representation of many kinds of metal.
07:42We don't exactly know what kind of metal we play here.
07:48We set ourselves as something in between hard rock and metal.
07:54Actually, our main influences are like Megadeth, Motorhead, Guns N' Roses.
08:01But we also have some, you know, some punk attitude in this.
08:07Some people say that we are heavy metal, like old school heavy metal, but I don't think that's the case.
08:13We don't like to put ourselves in a specific genre to put a label.
08:19We're planning to record a full album because we have the songs.
08:26We don't have quite the time because all of us have to work and work hard and as many gigs we can.
08:35We want to thank you very much Jordan from Artisans of the New Age.
08:41He's actually the reason that we are here today.
08:44So thank you very much Jordan for the great work.
08:47We will be in contact for maybe everything that we do.
08:53So guys, that's all from us.
08:56Thank you for watching this video.
08:58We appreciate your time during this interview with us.
09:02And during such miserable and awful beings like us.
09:08And so, if you haven't checked out our music, don't do it because it sucks.
09:14You can find it in Bandcamp, YouTube.
09:19You can also check our Facebook and Instagram pages.
09:23And we really hope to see you at our concerts and catch a world with you.
09:29Thank you very much.
09:30We are Jungles.
