00:00Jesus is Alive!!
00:02She's Alive!!
00:04Jesus is Alive!!
00:06Jesus is Alive!!
00:08Hallelujah!!
00:14Hallelujah!!
00:16Jesus is Alive!!!
00:30Wow, it's Easter.
00:32What an amazing time of year when we celebrate the most important moment of the entire history of the world.
00:40And I should know because I am the hopeful world.
00:44What was the most important moment in the entire history of the world?
00:48Well, it was the moment that God's people waited years and years and years and years for.
00:54Do you want to hear the story?
00:56The amazing, incredible story when God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only son?
01:02You do?
01:03Well, great, because I'm going to tell you the whole Easter story.
01:26There are so many important moments in this story, but it all begins with Jesus.
01:52Do you know who this is?
01:56Oh, that's baby Jesus.
01:58I can tell, because I know he was born in a barn.
02:03Wait, wait, wait.
02:05I've already told that story.
02:07How about we skip ahead a few years later when Jesus is all grown up doing amazing things all over the place?
02:14Jesus and his disciples went all over Israel, showing everyone what the kingdom of God was like.
02:22Do you know how he did that?
02:25Oh, that's easy.
02:27By teaching them.
02:28Well, yes.
02:30But also by doing amazing, unbelievable, incredible, unimaginable things called miracles.
02:40Miracles are signs that show people how powerful Jesus is.
02:53Let me tell you about three of his miracles.
02:57One night, Jesus was on a boat with his disciples when...
03:02Oh, no!
03:04A huge storm has taken over the sea!
03:07We're going to sink!
03:09We're going to die!
03:11What are we going to do?
03:14Meanwhile, Jesus was...
03:19Sleeping?
03:22Like a baby.
03:24So, one of the disciples said...
03:28Uh, excuse me?
03:30Excuse me, Jesus?
03:33Yes?
03:34What is it?
03:35We're all going to die!
03:38So, Jesus sat up and said...
03:41Why are you so afraid?
03:44Then, he turned to the giant storm and said...
03:49Stop!
03:51And guess what happened?
03:53The storm stopped.
03:55Wow!
03:57Jesus spoke to the storm and it obeyed him!
04:00Yep!
04:02Jesus was showing his disciples that in the kingdom of God, we have nothing to fear because...
04:08Jesus is the king of everything!
04:11Yes, he is!
04:14Another time, Jesus was surrounded by thousands of people who had followed him far away from town with no food to eat.
04:23Boy, am I hungry!
04:26Me too!
04:28Wish I'd brought a snack!
04:30Wish I'd brought two snacks!
04:33So, one of the disciples asked Jesus...
04:36Uh, excuse me, Jesus?
04:38Uh, how are we going to feed all these people?
04:42Will this help?
04:44Five loaves of bread and two small fish?
04:47Five loaves, two...
04:50You can't feed thousands of people with this!
04:54Are you sure?
04:55Hmm.
04:56But Jesus took the boy's gift and prayed over it.
05:00Then, he started breaking pieces off and giving them to the people.
05:05And then, there were more pieces.
05:08And more pieces.
05:10And more pieces!
05:11So many pieces that, look!
05:15Every person got to eat as much as they wanted.
05:18Another miracle!
05:20The disciples must have been so surprised.
05:24Oh, they were!
05:25However, Jesus was giving them another sign.
05:28In God's kingdom, there is always enough.
05:32Enough food, enough warmth, enough love.
05:37Because Jesus is the king of everything!
05:41You're catching on!
05:42And another time, a desperate man ran to Jesus, saying...
05:49My daughter is sick and dying.
05:52Can you please help her?
05:54By the time Jesus got to their house,
05:58the little girl had died.
06:00Oh, no!
06:02But Jesus said...
06:04Don't worry.
06:05She's okay.
06:07And the little girl came back to life,
06:10just like that.
06:12This was a sign that Jesus is king over sickness and disease.
06:17Jesus is the king of everything!
06:20Yes, he is.
06:21In the kingdom of God, there is no sickness or death.
06:25People must have been so excited!
06:28Oh, they were.
06:30But not all of them.
06:32Who wouldn't be excited about the miracles?
06:35I'll tell you.
06:36The religious leaders.
06:39The Pharisees.
06:42We keep track of all the rules.
06:46And we're not excited at all.
06:49Yeah.
06:50Jesus is getting too popular.
06:53Some people even call him a king.
06:56We've got to do something about this.
07:00So, the Pharisees went to the Sadducees.
07:04We're the ones in charge of punishing the people that break the rules.
07:10Let's talk.
07:14The Pharisees and Sadducees didn't like all the amazing miracles Jesus was doing.
07:22How could they not be amazed by the miracles?
07:25Because they were too afraid Jesus would take over their jobs.
07:31Jesus is the king over everything.
07:35That's right.
07:36And God was about to use him to do the most incredible miracle of all time.
07:43Really?
07:44Yep.
07:45So, the Pharisees and Sadducees began looking for a way to arrest Jesus.
07:51To stop him from doing the work his father had sent him to do.
08:00They tried to stop Jesus from what God wanted him to do.
08:04Hmm.
08:05Those Pharisees and Sadducees were really sneaky.
08:08Oh, and the incredible thing that God was going to do.
08:12What do you think that could be?
08:14It was an even more incredible miracle than making blind people see in calming storms.
08:20You'll have to wait and see what that miracle was.
08:24Because first, Jesus and his disciples traveled to his celebration.
08:28It was time for Jesus and his disciples to celebrate the Passover.
08:33Passover?
08:35What is Passover?
08:36Do you remember when God sent Moses to rescue the Israelites from Egypt?
08:44Oh, yes.
08:45God sent frogs and flies and darkness and other things.
08:51It was pretty crazy.
08:54It was.
08:55God sent plague after plague.
08:58Ten plagues.
08:59But Pharaoh still refused to let God's people go.
09:03He said,
09:05No, I will not let God's people go.
09:09So it was time for Pharaoh to see just how powerful God can be.
09:15What happened next?
09:16God told Moses to have every Israelite family prepare a lamb for a special meal.
09:22And then take some of the blood from that lamb and put it over the door of their houses.
09:29Why would God tell them to do that?
09:32Because for the last plague, God would send an angel to take the life of every firstborn son of the Egyptians.
09:41The angel would pass over the homes of the Israelites, who had the blood of the lamb over their doors.
09:49So, the blood of the lamb...
09:51Saved the sons of the Israelites.
09:53And ever since that day, the Israelites have celebrated Passover with a special meal,
10:01just like the one they had that night in Egypt when the angel passed over their homes many, many years earlier.
10:09I get it now.
10:10So, Jesus and his disciples traveled to Jerusalem, where many people gathered to celebrate Passover.
10:18And something very wonderful happened when he got there.
10:23Oh, really? What?
10:26As Jesus rode into the city on a donkey, a big crowd of people came to meet him.
10:32They knew who he was?
10:35Yes. They were so excited.
10:38They waved palm branches and then laid them down in front of him.
10:43That's funny. What did they do that for?
10:46It was their way of honoring Jesus.
10:49Like a welcome mat. That's so cool.
10:52And then they shouted,
10:54Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
11:00It was like a parade.
11:02A parade for a king.
11:04Everyone was so happy.
11:06Wait! Wait! Wait! Stop everything!
11:11We're not happy at all.
11:15Not one teeny bit.
11:18Ah, yes.
11:19The Pharisees and Sadducees.
11:22Those religious leaders weren't happy.
11:25They were very nervous.
11:27Hey!
11:29Jesus is such a troublemaker.
11:31If the Romans hear people calling him king, they will send their soldiers to throw us in prison.
11:37We need to stop Jesus and his followers.
11:41So they came up with a secret plan to hurt Jesus.
11:45Oh, no.
11:47They can't hurt Jesus.
11:49Don't worry.
11:50Even this was part of God's plan.
11:54Later that night, Jesus and his disciples got together to eat the Passover meal,
11:59just like they did every year.
12:02But this year was different.
12:05During the meal, Jesus got up and washed his disciples' feet
12:10to show them what it really means to love and serve others.
12:15Then, Jesus said something that surprised them all.
12:19One of you is going to turn against me.
12:23Oh, no.
12:24Why did he say that?
12:26He knew that one of them was helping the Pharisees and Sadducees.
12:31Were the disciples surprised?
12:34For sure.
12:35They looked at each other and said,
12:38Who could it be?
12:40Jesus knew what was going to happen.
12:42He wanted to prepare his followers.
12:45So he took a piece of bread and said,
12:48This is my body, which is given for you.
12:52Then he picked up his cup and said,
12:55This cup is the new covenant of my blood, poured out for you.
13:00What did he mean by that?
13:03What does co-co-covenant?
13:05What does that mean?
13:07A covenant is a promise.
13:10Many years before, God had made a covenant, a promise to bless his people.
13:16Now, Jesus was saying that God was going to make a new covenant with them.
13:21He was going to bless them in a new way.
13:24But when he said,
13:26This is my body.
13:28This is my blood.
13:30It sounded like this new covenant had something to do with Jesus dying.
13:36And it did.
13:37What do you mean?
13:39Why would Jesus have to die?
13:41Remember when the angel in Egypt saw the blood of the Lamb over the door?
13:46What did he do?
13:48Um, he passed over the house.
13:51And the people were safe.
13:54Jesus was saying that now his body and blood would save them.
13:59He was saying that he was the new Passover Lamb.
14:04Whoa!
14:05The disciples could not believe their ears.
14:08Then, after dinner, Jesus took some of his disciples and went to a garden to pray.
14:15He knew what he had to do next.
14:17And he knew it was not going to be easy.
14:21After a while, he said,
14:24The hour has come.
14:26And just at that moment, one of his disciples arrived,
14:31leading a group of soldiers sent by the Sadducees to arrest Jesus.
14:36Which disciple was it?
14:38The disciple named Judas.
14:40Now, everyone knew who had turned against Jesus.
14:44With the help of Judas, the Pharisees and Sadducees arrested Jesus.
14:52Just like they planned.
14:54But you know what?
14:56Things did not go the way they planned.
14:59I told you those Pharisees and Sadducees were sneaky.
15:08They turned Jesus' own friend, Judas, against him.
15:13And Judas helped them arrest Jesus.
15:15It must have been so scary and sad for all the other disciples.
15:19But Jesus loves us so much, he knew what he had to do.
15:24Yes, Jesus loves me.
15:27Yes, Jesus loves me.
15:29Yes, Jesus loves me.
15:32The Bible tells me so.
15:34The Pharisees and Sadducees thought they were stopping Jesus from doing all those miracles.
15:45But boy, oh boy, were they wrong.
15:53Jesus was going around doing the work God had sent him to do.
15:58Healing people.
16:01And teaching them all about the kingdom of God.
16:04But the Pharisees and Sadducees thought Jesus was getting too popular.
16:10So they had him arrested in the middle of the night.
16:14Oh no!
16:15What did they do to him?
16:17They asked him a lot of questions.
16:21Are you the son of God?
16:23Do you think you are equal to God?
16:27Jesus didn't say anything.
16:29But the religious leaders didn't care if he answered or not.
16:33They accused him anyway.
16:36He is guilty of blasphemy!
16:38Blasphemy!
16:39Blasphemy!
16:40Blasphemy!
16:41Blasphemy!
16:41Blasphemy!
16:44Blasphemy?
16:45What does that even mean?
16:48Blasphemy is when someone says untrue things about God.
16:52The Pharisees and Sadducees accused Jesus of saying he was God.
16:57According to the Pharisees and Sadducees, there was only one way a person could pay for that.
17:05What was it?
17:06Going to jail?
17:08No.
17:09Death.
17:11No!
17:12There was a problem for the Pharisees and Sadducees, though.
17:16What?
17:17Even if the Pharisees and Sadducees said Jesus was guilty, they weren't allowed to kill anyone.
17:24Only Roman leaders could do that.
17:27So, they took him to the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate.
17:33Wait.
17:34What?
17:35Pontius Pilate?
17:36Not a Pilate.
17:39Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor.
17:42And when he saw Jesus and his accusers, he was a little confused.
17:48Are they upset?
17:51What have you done that has made everyone so angry?
17:56Again, Jesus didn't say anything.
17:58So, Pilate turned to the religious leaders and said,
18:02I don't see anything wrong with this man.
18:04Well, according to our rules, he needs to die.
18:10Now, Pilate had a problem.
18:12Hmm.
18:13Jesus doesn't deserve to die.
18:16But, but if he gets more popular,
18:19I don't want the Pharisees and Sadducees to complain about me to the other Roman leaders.
18:25So, what did he do?
18:27He thought there was only one way to keep his job as Roman governor.
18:31Hmm.
18:32Well, what are you going to do?
18:35Ah, bring me some water.
18:39I wash my hands of this situation.
18:42This is not my fault.
18:45So, Pilate ordered that Jesus be killed on a wooden cross.
18:50Because...
18:51According to our laws, he deserves to die.
18:57That is so sad.
18:59Jesus didn't deserve to die on the cross.
19:02No, he didn't.
19:05But he went to the cross anyway.
19:07And as he was dying, he continued to show love and mercy by saying,
19:12Father, forgive them.
19:15They don't know what they are doing.
19:18The sky turned very dark.
19:20And Jesus said,
19:23It is finished.
19:26Jesus died.
19:27Then, the ground began to shake.
19:32And a Roman guard standing nearby said,
19:36This man must have been the Son of God.
19:39But where were the disciples?
19:42All of Jesus' friends.
19:44His mother was with him.
19:46And a few of his friends.
19:48The others probably didn't know what to think.
19:52How could Jesus be the Messiah?
19:55The blessing for the whole world?
19:57If he wasn't even alive?
19:59This part is sad.
20:19I know that Jesus had to die so he could heal the whole world from sin.
20:24But it is still so, so sad.
20:27Jesus gave his life for us.
20:32And it was only the beginning of the most amazing miracle of all.
20:39Jesus had done some amazing things while he was living.
20:43Like lots of miracles.
20:46That's right.
20:48Stop!
20:50And he'd shown everyone that God the Father was very loving,
20:55and good, and powerful.
20:59He had also promised that the kingdom of God was near.
21:03He'd given everyone a taste of that kingdom through those miracles.
21:08What's the kingdom of God?
21:10The kingdom of God is when the whole world will be made new again.
21:14The way God had always wanted it to be.
21:17Jesus promised that someday in the kingdom of God there will be no sin or sadness or sickness or death.
21:26What is sin again?
21:28Sin is when we ignore God and go our own way.
21:33Sin is when we say,
21:34I don't care what you say.
21:37I'm going to do it my way.
21:39And remember,
21:40because God is good and sin is bad,
21:43the price we pay for our sin is being apart from God.
21:48Ouch!
21:49Oh, so in the kingdom of God there will be no sin or sadness or sickness.
21:59In the kingdom of God there will be nothing to be afraid of, not even death.
22:04But Jesus had just died.
22:07Ah, so it seemed like none of those promises were coming true.
22:12But that was not the case.
22:15Really?
22:16What do you mean?
22:17You see,
22:19something more amazing was happening that Jesus' enemies didn't realize.
22:25When he died on the cross,
22:27Jesus took all of our sin on himself.
22:36He did?
22:38You see,
22:39since our sin turns us away from God,
22:42there can be no sin in the kingdom of God.
22:44So,
22:46Jesus had to fix the problem of sin.
22:49And he did that by dying on the cross?
22:53Yes.
22:54By dying on the cross,
22:56Jesus paid the price for our sins.
22:59Yours,
22:59mine,
23:00everyone's.
23:02Wow!
23:03Jesus really loves us.
23:06He sure does.
23:07But...
23:08Another question?
23:12What about all the things that he said about the kingdom?
23:15I still don't get it.
23:17If Jesus was dead,
23:19how could any of those promises come true?
23:23That's a really good question.
23:25With an even better answer.
23:27Because...
23:29He didn't stay dead.
23:43Jesus didn't stay dead?
23:45That sounds like a pretty incredible miracle to me.
23:48I told you this story was amazing.
23:51And he paid the price for all of our sin.
23:53Jesus paid it all.
23:58All to him I owe.
24:03Sin had left a pinstain stain.
24:06He washed it white as snow.
24:12Now, where were we?
24:15Oh, right.
24:15The sad part.
24:17Jesus had died after his own friend Judas turned against him.
24:21Jesus had been betrayed.
24:27He was arrested and put to death on a cross.
24:31It was a sad day.
24:34Yes.
24:35Jesus gave his life for us.
24:38The sun had gone down.
24:40And it was time to bury him.
24:43Only his mom and a few friends were there.
24:46You remembered.
24:48So, what did they do?
24:50They got help from a man.
24:53I am Joseph.
24:54From Arimathea.
24:55A follower of Jesus.
24:57I am very sad that Jesus has died.
25:00I have been waiting for the kingdom he spoke of to come.
25:04I want to do something nice for him.
25:06To show Jesus how much I loved him.
25:09So, Joseph did something special.
25:12He went to Pontius Pilate.
25:14I want to take care of Jesus' body.
25:18I want to give him a grave.
25:21All right.
25:22Go ahead.
25:23Now, when important people died in Israel, they were not buried in the ground.
25:29Really?
25:29No.
25:31Their bodies were placed in special tombs that were carved out of solid rock.
25:36Do you mean like a cave?
25:38Like a small cave.
25:41Well, Joseph had one that he was going to use someday.
25:45But guess what?
25:46He decided to give it to Jesus.
25:49So, Jesus' body was placed inside Joseph's tomb.
25:54And then a big rock was rolled in front of the cave.
25:58So, no one could get in.
26:00And then...
26:04Someone is here to see you, Pilot.
26:07Oh.
26:09It's you again.
26:10Yep.
26:11We're back.
26:13You didn't think we'd give up that easily, did you?
26:17Oh.
26:20What do you want?
26:22Look.
26:24Jesus said that he would come back from the dead.
26:27And?
26:29Well, what if his friends go to the tomb, move the rock, and take his body, and then say,
26:35Jesus is alive!
26:38Hmm.
26:39That would cause a lot of trouble for you, Pilot.
26:45Hmm.
26:46I never thought of that.
26:48So, Pilot put guards outside the tomb to make sure no one moved the rock.
26:54Eyes peeled.
26:55We don't want anyone to move this rock.
26:58Yeah.
26:59No one's going to get past us.
27:01No, sir.
27:02Wow.
27:03So, the Pharisees and the Sadducees were still worried about Jesus?
27:08Yep.
27:08You see, when Jesus was alive, he said,
27:13In three days, I will rise from the dead.
27:17Well, Jesus had died and was buried on a Friday.
27:21That's day one.
27:22All day Saturday, his body lay in Joseph's tomb with the guards keeping watch.
27:28That was day two?
27:30Right.
27:31So, Sunday morning comes around.
27:34Day three.
27:36And two women, who were Jesus' friends, made their way to the tomb to put spices and perfume on his body.
27:42Cause that was something that people did in those days.
27:46When all of a sudden...
27:48Oh!
27:49Whoa, whoa, whoa!
27:52What happened?
27:54What happened?
27:55An earthquake shook the ground.
27:57And an angel appeared.
28:00The angel rolled away the rock.
28:10When the women arrived, there lay the two soldiers, passed out on the ground.
28:17There lay the rock.
28:18And there, well, there was no Jesus.
28:25Don't be afraid.
28:28Oh, uh, okay.
28:30I know you're looking for Jesus, but he isn't here.
28:35He has risen.
28:37Just like he said he would.
28:39Jesus is alive.
28:41What?
28:42What?
28:45What?
28:45The women were so excited.
28:48They wanted to go tell their other friends what happened.
28:51When suddenly...
28:53Don't be afraid.
28:55Jesus showed up?
28:57He sure did.
28:59No way!
29:01Yes way.
29:02Later, Jesus appeared to all his disciples.
29:05He explained to them why he had to die.
29:09He told them the great news that death has no power in God's kingdom.
29:14And then, when it was time for him to leave, he said,
29:19From now on, you will be the ones telling others about my kingdom.
29:24I will send you a helper who will fill you with the power of God.
29:29You will do amazing things.
29:32And then, Jesus rose up into the sky.
29:44Amazing!
29:45The disciples were very excited.
29:48They didn't really know what would happen next, but they knew one thing.
29:52Jesus was sending them a helper who would help them in a mighty big way.
30:07He's alive!
30:08He's alive!
30:09Jesus is alive!
30:10He defeated sin and death!
30:13Hallelujah!
30:14The Lord is risen today!
30:24Hallelujah!
30:28Our triumphant holy day!
30:34Hallelujah!
30:36Yes, Jesus loves me!
30:40Yes, Jesus loves me!
30:43Yes, Jesus loves me!
30:47The Bible tells me so!
30:52This was the most incredible miracle ever!
30:55Jesus saved the whole world from sin, and God wasn't done yet!
30:59Jesus said he would send a helper so his friends could do incredibly amazing things too.
31:04But that's a whole other story we'll save for another day.
31:07This is the story of Easter, when God gave his one and only Son, because he loved the world so much.
31:13Yes, Jesus loves me!
31:17Yes, Jesus loves me!
31:21Yes, Jesus loves me!
31:25The Bible tells me so!
31:31Yes, I don't say they are alive.
31:35The Bible tells me so!
31:37The Bible tells me so!
