A 30-year-old man has been fatally stabbed in a popular clubbing precinct in Melbourne's inner south-east early this morning.

00:00I'm here on Chapel Street in Prahran, a popular nightlife area in Melbourne's inner
00:07southeast. Now, police were called to the scene and a 30-year-old Mickleham man had
00:11allegedly been stabbed multiple times. The man was taken to hospital, but he died from
00:16his injuries on his way. The man was known to police and police say they don't believe
00:20it was a random attack, but they're still trying to figure out exactly what happened.
00:24It was a busy area and it's believed people were running up and down the street at the
00:29time. Police have now recovered a gun from the scene, but they're not sure if it's
00:33a fake or not. They've also recovered a broken bottle, but they're not sure if that was the
00:37weapon used for the alleged stabbing. Now, we've also spoken to witnesses who talk about
00:42the type of scene that was happening last night. Again, Easter Sunday, long weekend, very busy.
00:48And we heard from one man who said he saw the incident and then rushed to help.
00:52I always, like, I would help anyone, like, you know. I just went in there, I was here,
00:58so when I walked, I thought he got hit by a car. But then when I saw the blood, I'm like,
01:02oof, it's bad. He was bleeding so bad.
01:06And have police made any arrests, Kate?
01:11So, so far, no one has been arrested. And in an update we just heard from the police,
01:15they believe that multiple people are involved, potentially up to six people. So they're still
01:20looking. As you can see behind me, it's still a crime scene here in this normally busy area
01:25of Chapel Street. Police have been here examining the scene since last night. They're also requesting
01:31help from local nightlife businesses. We don't know exactly if this incident started at a particular
01:36nightclub. All we know is that it spilled out onto the street. And police are requesting
01:41the help of anyone who may have vision from the area, whether it's dash cam footage, and
01:46they'll be liaising with nightclubs too. Here's what the police said in an update earlier.
01:50Yeah, I think that's concerning for anyone. No one wants to see violence when they come
01:56out for a good night out with their friends and family. And, you know, 1.30 in the morning
02:01was a busy time. So there will be a lot of people around. And certainly, I think that the public
02:07should be just as shocked as all of us to see those sort of things. So I hope that they
02:11come forward and give us as much information as they can.
02:15Again, as you can see behind me, it's been a big operation to keep this busy area closed
02:20while the police investigation is underway. Again, the advice that we have is they don't
02:25believe that it was a random attack and the victim was known to police. But anyone with
02:30any information or who may have been out in the area last night is being urged to come
02:34forward.
