00:00:00New York City and dirt bike racing

00:01:34Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship here in East Rutherford, New Jersey
00:01:39inside the magnificent MetLife Stadium
00:01:42and in stark contrast to last weekend we have an 82 degree sunny afternoon
00:01:48that is really pleasurable
00:01:50hi folks, Lee Diffie along with the GOAT, Ricky Carmichael
00:01:52we're ready to go RC
00:01:54and so too are the competitors
00:01:56big championship fight at the top
00:01:58and the man you see in second Chase Exton
00:02:00took a few points off the championship leader Cooper Webb last weekend in Philadelphia
00:02:04with a brilliant victory
00:02:06for Webb he's got all his eyes on the prize of becoming a three-time champion
00:02:11and in the 50-year history of this sport
00:02:13only six other riders have done that
00:02:15what does that mean for Cooper?
00:02:16well I think he's entering rarefied air
00:02:19if he's able to get that third championship
00:02:21and you think about his journey
00:02:23and I believe what has got him to this point is the mental fortitude
00:02:26the tenacity
00:02:27and then you talk about his racecraft throughout his career
00:02:31it's been some of the best that I've ever seen in this sport
00:02:34so we've got this seesaw of Webb extends
00:02:37Sexton brings it back
00:02:39Sexton himself is already a premier class champion
00:02:42if he gets his second
00:02:43what does that mean for Chase?
00:02:44it speaks volumes for Chase's career
00:02:47really solidifies himself as a champion
00:02:50and as a challenger
00:02:51he will be a longtime Monster Energy Supercross champion
00:02:54if champ, if do that
00:02:55and to be able to beat someone as established as Cooper Webb
00:02:59that would be the icing on the cake for this incredible athlete
00:03:03we have brought the NBC Supercross family to Jersey
00:03:08Weege is here
00:03:09Jason Wygant
00:03:10Will Christian
00:03:11and JT
00:03:12Jason Thomas
00:03:13why don't you kick us off mate
00:03:14with the Yamaha track map
00:03:15and tell everybody at home what they should be looking for
00:03:18well thank you Lee
00:03:19and let's check out the areas that are indicated in red
00:03:22and that's one of the signature obstacles of Monster Energy Supercross
00:03:25the whoops
00:03:26now we have two sets back to back
00:03:28which is unique for Monster Energy Supercross
00:03:30and why does that matter?
00:03:31it's one of the most challenging obstacles they'll face
00:03:33now there are two basic schools of thought
00:03:36when it comes to whoops
00:03:37one, you want to carry a lot of speed
00:03:39and then blitz across the top of those
00:03:41it's really difficult to do
00:03:42it's a high risk, high reward play
00:03:43but Chase Sexton, Ken Rockson, Aaron Plessinger
00:03:46that's their method
00:03:47now your points leader Cooper Webb
00:03:48he's on the other side of that coin
00:03:50he's going to want to find a rhythm
00:03:51he's going to want to jump through them
00:03:53and what to pay attention for
00:03:55late in the main event
00:03:56when they start to deteriorate
00:03:58can Cooper Webb use that tried and true jumping method
00:04:01to negate any edge that Chase Sexton might have early on
00:04:04in addition to the big bikes JT
00:04:06we will see the 250 East Division race
00:04:09and this championship frankly folks
00:04:11is the gift that keeps on giving
00:04:13there's been six different winners in seven rounds so far
00:04:16and Will Christian for the second round in a row
00:04:18we've got a tied championship at the top
00:04:21it couldn't be any closer
00:04:23that's right Lee and traditionally
00:04:24historically has not been any closer
00:04:27because for those top three in the 250 class
00:04:30at this point in the season
00:04:32there has not been a tighter points gap
00:04:35in all of Monster Energy Supercross history
00:04:38and that's part in due to the caliber of these athletes
00:04:42we have got both the reigning East and West
00:04:45Divisional Champions racing against each other
00:04:48RJ Hampshire and Tom Biel
00:04:50RJ Hampshire rough start to the season
00:04:52but he's clawed his way back in it
00:04:54Tom Biel had a ten point lead
00:04:56just a few rounds back
00:04:58lost all of that and sits two points back
00:05:00and Seth Hamaker
00:05:01well after a career peppered with injury
00:05:05got his second career win this season
00:05:07in Indianapolis
00:05:08four years after his first
00:05:11an emotional one for Seth
00:05:12we have got three completely different races
00:05:15three rounds to go and Jason everything on the line for them tonight
00:05:23it's all set up for a magnificent afternoon here in New Jersey
00:05:27finally sunbathing the track and high temperatures
00:05:31like you said contrast from last week
00:05:33and the weather definitely has put it on for us here today
00:05:36here today an incredible day in East Rutherford
00:05:4459 of Cullen Park just two races ago achieved his first 250 podium in the mud in Massachusetts
00:05:50he's still pumped about that first time winner
00:05:53Chance Hymas on screen
00:05:54he won that Foxborough race
00:05:56he's ready to go
00:05:58it's the first heat of the 250 East Division
00:06:00here in New Jersey
00:06:02let's do it
00:06:04racing in the afternoon and Hymas gets away to a good start
00:06:08pushes through on the inside
00:06:12making a great start too was Lane Shaw
00:06:15oh an incredible start
00:06:17for Lane Shaw
00:06:18and you think about
00:06:19against the guys that he's going for
00:06:21these factory bikes
00:06:22oh
00:06:23oh
00:06:24and he gets hit by RJ Hampshire
00:06:25Lane Shaw
00:06:26somehow stayed on his motorcycle
00:06:28got bulldozed by Hampshire
00:06:30and continues
00:06:31incredible save by Shaw for sure
00:06:34but also by RJ Hampshire
00:06:36that was extremely close
00:06:38great heads up riding early on
00:06:40incredibly hard to do
00:06:42because it's so jam-packed
00:06:45Chance Hymas aboard
00:06:46his Honda HRC bike
00:06:48leads the way
00:06:49RJ Hampshire
00:06:50in that Rockstar Energy Factory
00:06:52Husqvarna is in pursuit
00:06:53through the first section of the whoops
00:06:55remember Jason told us about that
00:06:57the 180 turn and here they come again
00:06:59that's right
00:07:00if you are a whoop guy
00:07:01you are absolutely loving
00:07:03back-to-back whoop sections
00:07:05and
00:07:06whoa
00:07:07just watching the number 10
00:07:09chance Hymas
00:07:11gets that front end
00:07:12a little low
00:07:13got an awkward kick
00:07:14off the takeoff
00:07:15of the triple
00:07:16but it was a nice save
00:07:17let's relive
00:07:18that opening lap
00:07:19with Lane Shaw
00:07:20made a phenomenal start
00:07:22there you go
00:07:26Hymas is on the left-hand side
00:07:27of your screen
00:07:28and yeah he just gets
00:07:29kind of crossed up
00:07:30and that's when he got hit by
00:07:33RJ Hampshire
00:07:34now Ricky
00:07:35earlier in the day
00:07:36we saw this down track side
00:07:38this was in the first time
00:07:39qualifying practice
00:07:40champs Hymas got flung from his bike
00:07:42did a half a Superman
00:07:44yeah
00:07:45a great dismount for sure
00:07:47and look at the difference in track
00:07:49there was a lot of grip on this race track
00:07:51early on today
00:07:52and the sun poked out
00:07:54around noon time
00:07:56and it has really dried this race track up
00:07:58and what that's going to do
00:08:00is going to create looser conditions
00:08:02with less traction
00:08:03and less ruts
00:08:04we each
00:08:08talking to chance Hymas guys
00:08:11earlier on today
00:08:12he seems honestly
00:08:13a little bit frantic
00:08:14they were trying to find
00:08:15a good suspension setting
00:08:17he said he found
00:08:18three completely different settings
00:08:19that they were working on
00:08:20trying to get balance in the bike
00:08:22front to back
00:08:23and those words
00:08:24that JT spoke about
00:08:25earlier
00:08:26that kind of point
00:08:27where he said
00:08:28there may be trouble for some guys
00:08:29that's where they were
00:08:30trying to get the balance through
00:08:31he was just kind of
00:08:32leaving this open
00:08:33and saying look
00:08:34we're just going to have to
00:08:35perhaps go back to an earlier setting
00:08:36and see how it goes
00:08:37well right now
00:08:38for John Simonson
00:08:39seems to be working out
00:08:40working out really well
00:08:41he has a one and a half second lead
00:08:42over RJ Hampshire
00:08:43tied at the top of the championship
00:08:45RJ with a really nice run
00:08:46through the whoops
00:08:47then Austin Faulkner
00:08:48aboard the works triumph
00:08:50there he is there
00:08:51in the background
00:08:52with that bright yellow helmet
00:08:53he's had a really
00:08:54improved performance here
00:08:56so far this weekend
00:08:57he was second quickest
00:08:58in the first time qualifier
00:08:59fourth fastest
00:09:00in the second time qualifier
00:09:02and this is promising signs
00:09:04for the 13 time
00:09:05250 main event winner
00:09:07yeah well he just lost
00:09:08some track position
00:09:09early on in that first lap
00:09:11and a half
00:09:12you take guys like
00:09:13Hymas and Hampshire
00:09:14when they're able to pull away
00:09:15really early on in the race
00:09:17it's tough for a guy like
00:09:18Austin Faulkner
00:09:19to keep up
00:09:20when he was
00:09:21kind of caught
00:09:22behind Simonson
00:09:24Venice
00:09:25and Clark
00:09:26and those guys
00:09:27and it's just really tough
00:09:28to make up that kind of ground
00:09:29but he has had an extraordinary day
00:09:31really fast
00:09:32in time qualifying practice
00:09:33like you guys were alluding to
00:09:35and sometimes that is just
00:09:36what a rider
00:09:37like Austin Faulkner
00:09:38needs to get the ball rolling
00:09:40and this is an incredible athlete
00:09:41that throughout his whole career
00:09:43has been one of the fastest guys
00:09:46on a motorcycle
00:09:47he's just outside the top 10
00:09:49in the points
00:09:50he's had two top 10 race results
00:09:52so far this year
00:09:53in his first season
00:09:54aboard the Triumph
00:09:55and runs in a solid third
00:09:56at the moment
00:09:57two minutes plus a lap
00:09:58to go on the clock
00:09:59the 3.51 of Jack Rogers
00:10:02oh down goes Austin Faulkner
00:10:04it had such a clean run so far
00:10:08he had a light tip over
00:10:09earlier today
00:10:10that's not what he needed
00:10:11in this heat race
00:10:12well if he can get back going
00:10:14oh
00:10:15oh that's two positions
00:10:16I'm just saying
00:10:17if he can get back going
00:10:18looks like his front number
00:10:19plate is off
00:10:20that could be a huge distraction
00:10:22maybe it broke the front
00:10:24number plate
00:10:25the bike made impact
00:10:26with the ground
00:10:27that was Isaiah Clark
00:10:29and Cullen Park
00:10:30who came together there
00:10:31after the Austin Faulkner
00:10:33incident
00:10:34well that's a difficult corner
00:10:35a 90 degree right hander
00:10:37JT
00:10:38let's have another look at what
00:10:44happened to Austin
00:10:45yeah he's gonna come out
00:10:47triple
00:10:48and then as he doubles
00:10:49he scrubs
00:10:50he gets a little sideways
00:10:51on the takeoff ramp
00:10:52of that triple
00:10:54lands on the side of the track
00:10:57right on the markers of the
00:10:58top block
00:10:59goes sideways
00:11:00that could have been a lot
00:11:01worse
00:11:02and then there's the pass
00:11:03Cullen Park goes to the
00:11:04inside
00:11:05tries to make some move
00:11:06makes contact
00:11:08JT
00:11:10just noticing Austin Faulkner
00:11:11there when he got up
00:11:12he's using this innovative
00:11:13alpine stars inflatable chest
00:11:15protector
00:11:16and you saw it inflate there
00:11:17and I had an opportunity to
00:11:18test that in Tampa
00:11:20it does save him but I'm just
00:11:21wondering how he will be able
00:11:22to ride with that inflated the
00:11:23rest of this race
00:11:24you just see it you can see it
00:11:26inflated on the back of him
00:11:27there
00:11:28probably saved him but it can't be
00:11:29much fun to try to finish this
00:11:30qualifier
00:11:31yeah I was wondering the same
00:11:32thing too JT and I thought that
00:11:34I thought that I had saw saw I
00:11:36thought that I saw that it looks
00:11:38like it's not hindering him too
00:11:39much
00:11:40still running fifth
00:11:41another plate flies off chance
00:11:43Hymas meanwhile has been able to
00:11:45stabilize that lead over R.J.
00:11:47Hampshire
00:11:48when I watch when I watch Austin
00:11:51Forkner right there Lee just the
00:11:53intensity that he has compared to
00:11:55the last several weeks looks like
00:11:57it's elevated several notches up
00:12:01and that's great to see maybe
00:12:03get some confidence in himself in
00:12:05the bike
00:12:06here's a great view the tails away
00:12:09through the whoops and the
00:12:10challenge these guys face each and
00:12:12every lap not once but twice
00:12:14can see the difference in riding
00:12:18styles between R.J. Hampshire
00:12:21and Hymas and where their body
00:12:24position is on the motorcycle
00:12:26going through the whoops where
00:12:28Hymas is a little more neutral
00:12:30whereas R.J. gets a little further
00:12:32back on the bike the difference is
00:12:35there when you get a little too
00:12:36far back you run out of leverage
00:12:38and when something goes wrong
00:12:40whereas opposed to where you're
00:12:41more neutral on the bike in case
00:12:43something goes wrong you have
00:12:45more more leverage to work with
00:12:46which can be a help well look at
00:12:48this R.J. Hampshire had a big
00:12:49lunge on the inside white flag is
00:12:51out final lap coming up now if
00:12:54chance Hymas can win this he
00:12:55he'll repeat what he did in Fox
00:13:00and that was a really good night
00:13:01because he won the heat and then
00:13:02won the main well he won the main
00:13:03and this was a guy who basically
00:13:05just gave up on his chances to win
00:13:07the divisional supercross
00:13:09championship and then he goes out
00:13:11like you said he wins Foxborough
00:13:13and he's like well I'm back in this
00:13:14thing so he has to switch gears
00:13:16mentally which is tough to do oh
00:13:18see R.J. comes up a little short on
00:13:22that triple going into the corner
00:13:25this is a great battle
00:13:27these 90 degree corners are going to
00:13:29be a lot of fun to watch later on
00:13:30today at main event time
00:13:32oh you hear the crowd roar because
00:13:34they know that R.J. Hampshire the
00:13:37the 250 West division champion of
00:13:39last year and the co-points leader
00:13:41this year here on the east he's not
00:13:43done with yet chance Hymas gets the
00:13:46victory that was an incredible battle
00:13:49great riding by both competitors
00:13:51Hymas blocking that inside before the
00:13:54finish line the teenager from Idaho gets
00:13:57it done now can he repeat the form that
00:14:01he had in Foxborough Massachusetts just
00:14:03two weeks ago and go on and win the
00:14:05main we'll hear his thoughts next
00:14:11well exciting opening ceremonies
00:14:12earlier here at MetLife Stadium we
00:14:15got action now we have the heat race
00:14:17one winner of the 250 class chance
00:14:19hymas and that was eerily reminiscent
00:14:21of 2024 you think about you caught the
00:14:23momentum you won a heat race and that
00:14:25that led you into a strong late season
00:14:27in summer does it feel like that you're
00:14:29picking up the pieces again and going
00:14:30to pick up some steam yeah definitely
00:14:32trying to trend in that direction but
00:14:34the team's been working our butt off
00:14:35all day I've ran about three or four
00:14:37different shock settings now but we're
00:14:40finally hitting the nail with the
00:14:41hammer and yeah I got a good start and
00:14:43just tried to sprint as hard as I
00:14:45could but yeah I just need to clean up a
00:14:47few mistakes but it always feels good
00:14:49to get a W even though it's a heat
00:14:51race and yeah we need to carry this
00:14:52momentum into the men
00:14:53good luck in the main event
00:14:56nice start we'll see if he can continue
00:14:58that and a quick reminder that the road
00:15:00to the SMX playoffs is well and truly
00:15:02underway after 28 regular season
00:15:04supercross and motocross events the
00:15:06SMX playoffs get underway in September
00:15:08where as you know the best races in the
00:15:10world compete in the most daring form
00:15:12of motorsport for the sports ultimate
00:15:14prize here is the menu for you playoff
00:15:17round one at Z-Max Dragway in
00:15:19in Charlotte North Carolina on September
00:15:216th following weekend is the second round
00:15:23in St. Louis at the Dome at America's
00:15:25Center and has seen so much two-wheel
00:15:27history and the SMX World Championship
00:15:29finale race returns to the Las Vegas
00:15:32strip dragway September 20th be there
00:15:38watch history the XMX playoffs coming this
00:15:41fall for the third consecutive year
00:15:45yeah the format and just what the
00:15:48playoffs mean and the great racing it
00:15:51produces has been something special to
00:15:53watch each world championship going down
00:15:56to the wire I love it so you just saw R.J.
00:15:59Hampshire in the first heat he is one of
00:16:01the co-championship leaders here is the
00:16:03other one the 24 year old from
00:16:05Pennsylvania Seth Hamaker aboard his
00:16:08monster energy pro circuit Kawasaki
00:16:10ready to go he is in the form of his
00:16:13career oh and by the way in this heat
00:16:15he's up against the reigning East
00:16:18Division champion from France Tom Vial and
00:16:20I've never seen the depth in a champion
00:16:23divisional championship Lee ever in my
00:16:27years of watching SMX and monster
00:16:29energy supercross you hear those ribs
00:16:35rise drop the gate let's do it heat
00:16:38two of the 250s good start Nate
00:16:40Thrasher boy he bolted out of the gates
00:16:45gonna be tight on the whole shot there
00:16:48but he's got the inside line for the
00:16:50switchback here and Nate Thrasher
00:16:52he's already won this year in
00:16:55Birmingham Alabama and the monster
00:16:57energy star Yamaha racer is flying
00:16:59ahead of Hamaker this is like a sight
00:17:02lap for some of these guys and think
00:17:04about how fast that they have to go they
00:17:06haven't been on this racetrack for
00:17:07several hours the sun has poked out
00:17:11track is a lot drier a lot harder than
00:17:14it was when they're previously on the
00:17:16track earlier today while maintaining an
00:17:19incredible pace Nate has been riding
00:17:22injured for the majority of the season
00:17:24he severely injured his finger there's
00:17:27metalwork in there had to go undergo
00:17:29surgery he had very little grip
00:17:31strength he told me yesterday RC he is
00:17:34feeling fat and feeling strong yeah and
00:17:36Nate is just one of those guys I mean
00:17:38he's won a showdown race a triple crown
00:17:41race a regular race and he has a speed
00:17:45that's never been the problem it's just
00:17:48small little injuries that has slowed
00:17:51him down and some not to his doing
00:17:54well and he's had teammates with injuries
00:17:57too so right now Nate Thrasher is the
00:17:59is the sole 250 East rider under that
00:18:02under that Yamaha style racing tent and I
00:18:06asked today the team said how's that on
00:18:08the pressure they said we are piling it
00:18:10on we're piling that pressure on some
00:18:12riders do well with that some do not
00:18:14they said Nate loves it when we tell
00:18:16him it's go time it's go time and so all
00:18:18that is on him right now maybe that has
00:18:20something to do with that great start
00:18:22it's clearly working that the team is
00:18:23planning there well we enjoy this action
00:18:25will in the 250 East division heat 2
00:18:28let's check in with weeds Jason
00:18:30Wakeham where do we find you mate
00:18:32yeah I'm here under the triumph rig you
00:18:34saw that crash from Austin Fortner in the
00:18:36heat race and JT mentioned how his airbag
00:18:39system went off this is new to the sport
00:18:41of motocross the tech air system from
00:18:43Alpinestars he's got to swap that one
00:18:46for this one when you crash it inflates
00:18:48before you hit the ground to cushion the
00:18:50impact and then it stays inflated for 25
00:18:52seconds and then goes back to a normal
00:18:54size so the rider is not affected by the
00:18:57inflated airbag system it has one charge
00:18:59per race so he's going to swap into a new
00:19:01system and the good thing for Fortner
00:19:03after that crash he's a-okay and
00:19:05technology that we've seen in MotoGP road
00:19:08racing has come to the world of super
00:19:11motocross
00:19:15Nate Thrasher with a 1.7 second lead over
00:19:18Hammaker Tom Villar a little further back
00:19:20aboard his Red Bull KTM then Max Volan and
00:19:23Jack Chambers and in that final transfer
00:19:27position in ninth Trevor Collum at the
00:19:29moment there's Tom Villar earlier today
00:19:33when the track was a bit ruddier I felt
00:19:36like it was playing right into Tom Villar's
00:19:38hands of the championship contenders he is
00:19:41the only guy that hasn't won yet this year
00:19:44lacking a little bit of speed however he's
00:19:46he's only two points back whoa whoa some wild
00:19:50stuff going on further back
00:19:53that was Carol
00:19:55I believe
00:19:56yeah
00:19:57Brighton Carol went down
00:20:00and then
00:20:01no
00:20:04local rider here from New Jersey
00:20:07oh
00:20:10that was rough to watch it's so hard to get
00:20:13it gathered back up when you make a
00:20:15mistake through the woods because you're
00:20:17so committed watch what happens top of your
00:20:20screen
00:20:21oh no that wasn't the woods that's a
00:20:24rhythm lane
00:20:25oh oh
00:20:26yeah I mean just a racing incident if one
00:20:30guy makes a mistake and isn't able to say triple
00:20:33into the corner the other guy behind him is
00:20:36committed it's really nothing for you to do at
00:20:39that stage
00:20:40Henry Miller
00:20:43let's hope that he is okay after that heavy
00:20:46crash meanwhile it's a little more stable up
00:20:48front
00:20:49for Nate Thrasher
00:20:53let's hear some thoughts of the star Yamaha
00:20:56racer on what he needs to do to build a little
00:20:59bit more his night Thrasher in his own words
00:21:02yeah I think last weekend I felt good on the bike
00:21:05just to start starts weren't there and on the
00:21:07restart of the main event so yeah we just worked
00:21:09on starts this week and I think it's going to
00:21:12take a good start here there's a lot of good guys
00:21:14so yeah just get off the gate and I think
00:21:16open a good spot
00:21:17and even though Ricky that his hand is pretty
00:21:20much 100% healed I asked him yesterday why do
00:21:23you still have the hand guards on he said believe
00:21:25it or not where I've got my scar and where I had
00:21:27the sore finger the roost still really hurts my hand
00:21:31yeah I mean the these tires put off a massive
00:21:35roost it's like sitting in front of a paintball gun and
00:21:39it's hurt so any little protection helps so that's why
00:21:43he has those black hand guards covering up his hands and
00:21:47there are little rocks out on this racetrack
00:21:49he's down there walking the track earlier today during qualifying
00:21:53practice watching these guys as they were taking laps and
00:21:57trying to get their best time and there's small little pebbles
00:22:00out there nice to see a dry track for once in a few weeks
00:22:04right we've been uh the weather mother nature has been keeping us
00:22:08keeping us on our toes
00:22:12nice to have the sunshine 25 seconds left plus a lap
00:22:16Nate thrash has been in control since the start over co-championship
00:22:20leader Seth Hamaker then Tom Vial
00:22:22Max Volan started the day pretty speedily
00:22:26and then Jack Chambers headed for a career best heat result if he can
00:22:32he can stay there in the top five
00:22:36Chan Baker holds onto that ninth and final transfer position
00:22:40sometimes it's difficult
00:22:42when the track changes from
00:22:45qualifying practice
00:22:47to the heat races right now and then later on
00:22:50to the main event
00:22:52you have to really be on top of it be trying to
00:22:55you have to forecast what that track condition is going to be like
00:22:58so you can make the appropriate changes to your motorcycle
00:23:01and the setup whether it be suspension engine tires
00:23:04so the rider that is most in tune with how their bike works
00:23:09and the necessary changes they may need to help them
00:23:14the best lap times have the most comfort to
00:23:18race with as much speed as possible
00:23:22here's the second place
00:23:24Seth Hamaker
00:23:26that big win that Will alluded to earlier this season in Indianapolis
00:23:30broke a four year drought
00:23:33and behind him coming to the white flag
00:23:36who is a long way back
00:23:38Tom Vial more than 10 seconds
00:23:40Jason Thomas behind Seth Hamaker runs third
00:23:43and this is a little worrisome for Tom Vial
00:23:45because the way he had been in this championship lead
00:23:48was through consistency it hadn't been through raw speed
00:23:51as Ricky mentioned now with that Foxborough debacle
00:23:54he has lost the lead and it's going to be up to him to find the speed that it takes to win
00:23:59and in this heat race so far he has not been able to do that
00:24:02so somewhere between now and the main event
00:24:04he's going to have to figure this out
00:24:05but the points are only going to get worse from here
00:24:07he's getting some serious heat from the 92 of Max Boland
00:24:11on that blue and white Yamaha
00:24:14I was watching Max Boland earlier today
00:24:18and he looked really comfortable
00:24:20had incredible whoop speed
00:24:22there we go
00:24:23checkered flag for Nate Thrasher
00:24:25well done
00:24:26right from the drop of the gate
00:24:28Nate Thrasher was out in front
00:24:30and put together a really comprehensive heat victory over Seth Hamaker
00:24:34and then Tom Vial will cross the line third
00:24:39with a little bit of head scratching to do maybe
00:24:42leading to the main event
00:24:54have a look at this for a good scrap right at the end
00:24:56of the second heat of the 250 East Division
00:24:59Bryce Shelley on the inside of Chandler Baker
00:25:03Chandler fighting to make his second main event
00:25:06and did it like that right on the line
00:25:09and these two exchanged some words afterwards
00:25:13so a heated battle to make it to the main
00:25:15let's hear from the man who won though
00:25:18thank you Lee
00:25:19Nate Thrasher wasn't so long ago
00:25:20that you found yourself winning a triple crown event
00:25:22now mother nature hasn't been so kind since then
00:25:24but here you are winning a heat race
00:25:26you think you're going to get back to those winning ways
00:25:28here with some dry weather
00:25:30yeah I think so
00:25:31it just feels like a normal day out here
00:25:33and I feel right at home
00:25:34yeah
00:25:35Bobby fired me up before that heat race
00:25:36and had to go show him what I could do
00:25:38so
00:25:39yeah we're ready for this main event
00:25:40I'm going to put up a hard fight tonight
00:25:41and hopefully we can get another win
00:25:43thanks Nate
00:25:44and let's send it to Jason Wigan
00:25:46yeah thanks JT
00:25:47you heard Nate Thrasher mention Bobby
00:25:48that's Bobby Regan the team owner of the Yamaha squad
00:25:52he likes to fire his riders up
00:25:54I was just talking to Cooper Webb
00:25:55who's headed out
00:25:56championship leader in the 450 division
00:25:58he's getting ready for his heat race
00:26:00Cooper Webb is known as a late race tactician
00:26:03but he's working on the early race speed
00:26:05said the team made a bet with him this week
00:26:07now a normal supercross main event is 20 minutes
00:26:10about 26 to 27 laps
00:26:12they said if you can keep your lap time under a certain
00:26:15very fast number for 20 laps
00:26:18will let you finish your race early
00:26:20think about going fast for a short time
00:26:22instead of the full race duration
00:26:24Webb was able to meet that requirement
00:26:26they pulled him off the track early
00:26:28he's working on early race speed
00:26:30because they know he has the late laps dialed
00:26:32we'll see how he does
00:26:33when the big race comes later this afternoon
00:26:36100% honing in on his skills
00:26:39and working on that speed to make sure he has this guy
00:26:43covered which is going to be hard
00:26:45Chase Sexton definitely has the speed going for him
00:26:48he's been on the average the fastest all season long
00:26:52but you got to have the whole bag
00:26:54not always the fastest guy wins
00:26:56but man two incredible racers
00:26:59and it's been a lot of fun to watch these two legends battle
00:27:03the 25 year old from Illinois
00:27:06you see him fourth from the right
00:27:08bike number four Chase Sexton
00:27:10last weekend's winner in Philadelphia
00:27:12he started the season on the right note with a win in Anaheim in California
00:27:16then at Phoenix
00:27:18he won in Birmingham and last weekend in Philly
00:27:21to keep his championship aspirations alive
00:27:24he's just 12 points back from Cooper Webb
00:27:27let's see his form here in this heat
00:27:30first one for the 450s
00:27:33here in MetLife Stadium
00:27:35good start Justin Hill on the inside
00:27:38good start Marsha and also Chase Sexton
00:27:42I thought Chase Sexton was going to get close down
00:27:45but man he crept around the inside
00:27:48he's got the preferred line right here
00:27:50this is going to set him up perfectly to make the move
00:27:52to make the move
00:27:53on the inside of Shane McElrath
00:27:55who made a brilliant start
00:27:56career high result recently
00:27:59his first ever podium in the premier class for Shane McElrath
00:28:02so confidence is high in the quad lock Honda camp
00:28:05then Justin Basher and then the Suzuki of Ken Rockson
00:28:07making a swift move on the inside
00:28:09good move on the inside
00:28:10I love that 90 degree corner
00:28:12right before the finish line
00:28:13oh there goes good
00:28:14Ross has gone for it again
00:28:18gotcha
00:28:19yeah he's able to do it
00:28:20got a good drive out of that corner
00:28:22put the power to the ground
00:28:24dove to the inside
00:28:25closed the door on the 12
00:28:29his next couple laps
00:28:30would be interesting to see if Kenny
00:28:32can make some ground up on Chase Sexton
00:28:34Kenny always so explosive
00:28:36early on in these races
00:28:38I'll tell you what
00:28:40Ken Rockson has done an incredible job
00:28:42racing banged up
00:28:43oh look at
00:28:44McElrath wasn't able to triple out of that corner
00:28:50Justin Basher looking for options and looking around
00:28:54because he knows that Justin Hill is not too far behind
00:28:57yeah that was great
00:28:59for the 12 of Shane McElrath to hold that position
00:29:03because I thought for sure that the 51 of Barsher had him covered
00:29:06but go back to Ken Rockson
00:29:07he's been banged up for the last 4 or 5 weeks
00:29:10he had AC separation on the shoulder
00:29:13he told me last week that that's actually feeling a lot better
00:29:16but it's his ankle
00:29:17and any external rotation really just hurts him
00:29:21he's got some ligament damage there
00:29:23just trying to make it to the end of the season with the best finish that he can do
00:29:27looking at Shane McElrath aboard the 12 in 3rd
00:29:30Barsher 4th
00:29:31let's go up to the head of the field
00:29:33because Rockson has some pretty swift pace going at the moment
00:29:36as he chases down
00:29:38Chase Sexton
00:29:40race leader
00:29:41he was the fastest guy on the track
00:29:44he was 3 tenths 2 and a half tenths faster last lap
00:29:48what you got JT
00:29:50just thinking about Ken Rockson
00:29:51he's been so fast early on
00:29:52which is really his calling card
00:29:54as you mentioned Ricky
00:29:55but what I'll be watching for is
00:29:56can he sustain this pace
00:29:57because that has been the problem
00:29:59you see him poke up the inside
00:30:01they're trying to make a move on Sexton
00:30:03it's the late laps
00:30:04maybe a minute 12 and on
00:30:06where the ankle injury
00:30:07and the shoulder injury
00:30:08starts to add up a little bit
00:30:09it's a little bit too much to hold on to
00:30:11so let's see if he's been able to close that gap
00:30:13on the injury here
00:30:14coming into East Rutherford
00:30:15and I got an update from Ken today
00:30:18saying he just got the MRI back on the ankle
00:30:20that you guys were just talking about
00:30:22that torn ligaments
00:30:23like you said
00:30:24we're getting some bone bruising too
00:30:25but the good news from the team
00:30:27is that he did turn some laps during the week
00:30:29that has not been the case in past week
00:30:31since the injury
00:30:33usually he just kind of keeps it mellow
00:30:35even through qualifying
00:30:36he pushed harder through qualifying today
00:30:38so maybe a good side moving forward for Ken Rockson
00:30:40the 30 year old has displayed so much grit this season
00:30:44and so close to a championship
00:30:48hey it's not over yet
00:30:49but it sort of is
00:30:51and he knows that
00:30:52that he's up against it
00:30:53with just today
00:30:54and three more rounds left in
00:30:56the Monster and GAMA Supercross Championship
00:30:58he's done so well
00:30:59got that got that career big one
00:31:01that first victory in Daytona
00:31:03earlier in the season
00:31:04and it's just holistically
00:31:06has been riding so very well
00:31:08just him and the team
00:31:10and Larry Brooks the team manager
00:31:11what they've been able to build
00:31:13and the culture over there
00:31:15is something that Ken has really
00:31:18taken a liking to
00:31:20has a lot of confidence in that race team
00:31:22and his results speak for that
00:31:24and Larry Brooks is an incredible team manager
00:31:27and has many many
00:31:29Supercross championships
00:31:31working with legends in the sport
00:31:32like Jeremy McGrath the king of Supercross
00:31:35well last time we were here in MetLife Stadium
00:31:38was two years ago
00:31:39where the rider of the 51
00:31:41the rockstar Gas Gas
00:31:43Justin Barsha
00:31:44stood on the top step of the podium
00:31:46it was in a horrendous night
00:31:48for weather
00:31:49and the mud
00:31:50and the rain
00:31:51and the lightning
00:31:52and the storms
00:31:53well
00:31:54but Justin was the one
00:31:55who came out of it the best
00:31:56so happy memories here in Jersey
00:31:58adversity
00:31:59Lee does not seem to bother Justin Barsha
00:32:01and he's got some that he's facing right now too
00:32:03a week and a half ago
00:32:05he took a practice crash
00:32:06the bar hit his finger on his right hand
00:32:09split it open
00:32:10he had a laceration
00:32:11unbelievably no fracture
00:32:13but he's had to take up those fingers
00:32:15so his index finger there on that right hand
00:32:18that's his front brake
00:32:19he's had to take those two fingers together
00:32:21in order to get enough strength to use his brake
00:32:23he said once I can start moving that finger more
00:32:25and the swelling comes down
00:32:26I'm going to need those fingers back
00:32:28to grip the bike
00:32:29so making the decision right now
00:32:30a tough one
00:32:31do I grip the bike
00:32:32or do I use my front brake?
00:32:37it's a
00:32:38everything's a compromise

00:35:56here in the northeast
00:35:57and will christian
00:35:59Chase Sexton said
00:36:00after last weekend
00:36:01all I got to do is keep on winning
00:36:03well
00:36:05he's saying true to his word
00:36:06that's right
00:36:07fantastic way to start the afternoon here Chase
00:36:08great start to you but it looked a little hectic out there
00:36:11And we know that this track is going to change a lot heading into the main event.
00:36:14So just talk me through that and what you're going to expect.
00:36:17Yeah, it was, the track was pretty good for the heat race, obviously.
00:36:20It's a little more dry than qualifying.
00:36:22But it's really windy today and it's hot.
00:36:24So there's not much the track can do about it.
00:36:27So it's going to be similar to Salt Lake City.
00:36:29Derek, it's going to be pretty slick tonight.
00:36:31And you just got to be patient, be on your toes.
00:36:33And Kenny was riding really well at the beginning.
00:36:35And I was like, ah, I don't want to push much harder.
00:36:38But no, it was good.
00:36:39And we had a good battle.
00:36:40So looking forward to the main event.
00:36:42And, yeah, stoked to go racing.
00:36:44Stoked to see you out there.
00:36:45See you in just a bit.
00:36:46Chase, congratulations.
00:36:48Sixth heat win of the year.
00:36:51And a quick reminder, as the MonsterNG Supercross Championship winds down,
00:36:55the auction to benefit St. Jude draws closer.
00:36:58Race-worn and used gear from the Indianapolis round,
00:37:03plus incredible donated items, including two Stasic bikes with St. Jude design,
00:37:07a Kawasaki electrode, and autographed Oakley goggles from the man you just heard from,
00:37:12Chase Sexton and his teammate Aaron Plessinger.
00:37:15The auction begins April 28th and runs through Monday, May 12th.
00:37:18Head to Supercross.
00:37:19The details.
00:37:22That's pretty cool.
00:37:23That's pretty cool.
00:37:24We'll get back to the kid.
00:37:26Back to the kid.
00:37:27Cool items on there.
00:37:28I saw you signing a guitar today.
00:37:30Yeah, that's right.
00:37:31That will be part of that.
00:37:33So much more.
00:37:34Hey, here's the rider in the spotlight, Justin Cooper, aboard his Monster Energy star Yamaha.
00:37:41It's his second full year in the 450 class.
00:37:43What's your assessment this year?
00:37:45Well, I love the momentum that he's had, and he's had a great season, like you talked about so far.
00:37:49There you see his best finish, second place, and he's gotten some great starts.
00:37:54And I like this racetrack and how the whoops are forming up.
00:37:58They were jumpers.
00:37:59They were jumping through the whoops in time qualifying practice earlier today.
00:38:03I expect them to kind of get that way main event time later on this afternoon.
00:38:08And I also like his riding style for the 450.
00:38:12He doesn't override the motorcycle.
00:38:14And these 450s have so much power.
00:38:16Sometimes the easier you ride them, the faster you go.
00:38:19Does it help or hinder him that his teammate and training partner is the championship leader?
00:38:24Well, I think it helps him.
00:38:26I'm sure any time you're around a guy that's winning and a championship contender or two-time champ like Cooper Webb,
00:38:32I mean, how do you not use that as an advantage?
00:38:37So one title rival has won the opening heat.
00:38:41What's in store for us here in the second 450 heat?
00:38:45Top nine would automatically qualify for the main event coming up a little later.
00:38:49Keep your eye on Bike 7 as well.
00:38:51Aaron Plessinger.
00:38:52Heat 2 450s here in Jersey.
00:38:54Gates down.
00:38:59Good start, Justin Cooper.
00:39:01Watch the inside line, though.
00:39:02Webb's trying to sneak through.
00:39:04Plessinger's trying to sneak through.
00:39:05Yeah.
00:39:06Plessinger did a good job of blocking that inside.
00:39:10Freddie Norren's off to a great start aboard.
00:39:12Yeah, look at Freddie.
00:39:13Number 33 up front there.
00:39:16Oh, look at Christian Craig goes off the track.
00:39:18Two of Cooper Webb on the inside, trying to make a move by the seven.
00:39:24Malcolm Stewart aboard the 27.
00:39:26Vogo.
00:39:27He's in the mix.
00:39:28But it's Justin Cooper who leads the way from Cooper Webb.
00:39:34Well, you heard Weege's report about what Cooper Webb has been working on, and that's that early race sprint laps.
00:39:42And this is a perfect example of what he's been trying to do is early on in these races.
00:39:48He's going to try to lay down as many fast laps as possible.
00:39:53Riding with a lot of intensity.
00:39:55That's where Chase Sexton is so good.
00:39:58A week on from Philadelphia.
00:40:05I'm still sparing a thought for Aaron Plessinger.
00:40:07You see there aboard Bike 7.
00:40:09Yeah.
00:40:09Who was in such great form.
00:40:11He got a magnificent start in the main event, only to collide with Shane McElrath and kind of got bounced off to the side of the track.
00:40:19And he was playing catch-up from that moment onwards and ended up rallying to finish eighth at the end of the main.
00:40:25So he'll be looking to kind of get something that he felt was his a week ago.
00:40:30He's in a fight here with his training partner, Malcolm Stewart.
00:40:35I'll go back to what Chase Sexton was saying in his podium interview and how this track has gotten drier and how you have to have patience.
00:40:43And what he's talking about is because it's getting slicker, you really have to be easy with the throttle.
00:40:49And it's hard to do when you're in a position like Malcolm Stewart, number 27, right there.
00:40:55When you're trying to gain ground, you want to twist the throttle so much.
00:40:58But you know if you do, you're going to light the rear end up and you're going to lose forward drive.
00:41:02Oh!
00:41:03Now, while we see Malcolm Stewart on screen and hassling Aaron Plessinger, we were meant to have his big brother sitting in between you and you today, James, who was with us last week, Supercross legend.
00:41:17And unfortunately, JS is a little under the weather, so I know that you're watching, mate.
00:41:21Yeah.
00:41:21Feel better and get better as quickly as you can.
00:41:24And we'll see you a little later in the season.
00:41:26That's right.
00:41:27We miss you, buddy.
00:41:28Hope you get to feel ins...
00:41:29He was great on Wednesday on our meeting and then heard he was sick, so we're thinking about you, bud.
00:41:38You can really see the difference in whoop entry speed going into that first set of whoops.
00:41:43The difference between the seven of Mary Plessinger and the 27 of Malcolm Stewart.
00:41:49Malcolm has always been able to have incredible whoop speed, whoop entry speed, that is.
00:41:57And that helps so much, because rather than trying to build speed through the whoops, you're able to maintain speed.
00:42:06Meanwhile, up front, Justin Cooper holds a 1.4-second lead over his championship-leading teammate.
00:42:14And a quick reminder that you can take an inside look at Yamaha Racing's factory-supported teams after every race on Yamaha Motor USA's YouTube channel.
00:42:23I think it's going to be really, really important, and I talked about it a little bit in the 250 heats, is if you're a guy like Cooper Webb or you're a guy like Chase Sexton and you're in it for the championship, it is going to be really, really important to make sure you get a good feel, engage, and try to predict what these conditions are going to be like in that main event and get that bike set up 100 percent, Will.
00:42:46And there's some confidence he's coming out of Justin Cooper when I spoke to him earlier, with how his setup was on the bike and just everything.
00:42:55He's got about 50 to 80 friends and family here.
00:42:58He's from only an hour away, and he talked about how everything was just sort of coming together.
00:43:02And when I asked him about how it would be to get a win here at his home race, I mean, his face just lit up.
00:43:08So everything trending in the right direction.
00:43:10I was also told that he had a great week back then Cooper Webb, Jason Wygen, talked about those sprint laps that Cooper Webb was putting in.
00:43:17I heard that Justin Cooper was right there.
00:43:22There he goes, Cooper up the inside.
00:43:24Look at this, side by side, the teammates.
00:43:27Cooper Webb is going to have the outside option.
00:43:29Justin Cooper keeps him out for now, but here comes the points leader, leaping into the lead to the joy of the crowd.
00:43:38His teammate racing him hard.
00:43:40Justin Cooper's on the inside, preferred line coming into this right-hander.
00:43:44It'll be tough for Coop to get back by.
00:43:48Wow.
00:43:52What an epic battle between the teammates.
00:43:54It's only for a heat, but a lot is being learned here that Cooper Webb can use against Chase Sexton in the main event.
00:44:02Great ride, Justin Cooper.
00:44:03May have lost the lead, but this one's been a great one.
00:44:06Yeah, great riding by Justin Cooper to defend that position.
00:44:10He ends up losing it, but it wasn't for the lack of trying.
00:44:13Respectful, but firm competition against his teammate.
00:44:19Oh, this is going to be huge for Cooper Webb if he's able to hold off Justin Cooper.
00:44:24We talk about start position.
00:44:26He'll have the number two start position going into the main event.
00:44:31Most likely, Chase Sexton's heat race will be faster, so that'll give him the advantage.
00:44:35And I like that position, going second, because then that puts me in a spot where I can start on the inside of my competitor.
00:44:44Well, with the clock almost down and a lap to go, look in the background.
00:44:48Aaron Plessinger has been clicking off some pretty speedy lap times, and the Red Bull KTM rider is looming in the background.
00:44:56Behind him, Malcolm Stewart.
00:44:57Joey Savace coming off a career-high result in Philly.
00:45:01And then Dean Wilson aboard the Honda HRC machine.
00:45:04Dylan Ferrandez, Christian Craig, Freddie Norrin is in a position to go straight through to the main at the moment.
00:45:09Well, you go back.
00:45:10You talk about Joey Savace on that number 17 quad-lock Honda team.
00:45:15He didn't make the main in Foxborough.
00:45:17He comes out, gets fifth last weekend.
00:45:19He was really good in time qualifying practice earlier today.
00:45:23And here he is, sitting fifth in his heat race.
00:45:25And this is just what confidence does for you, and it's great to see from Joey.
00:45:28We know he has the ability to run up front, and I'm pumped for him and that race team.
00:45:34Cooper Webb is on his way home.
00:45:37That will be a satisfying heat victory.
00:45:40He had to work a little harder for it than he thought.
00:45:42Justin Cooper is right there, though.
00:45:45Coop's going to have to block the inside.
00:45:48So, perfect setup for the afternoon.
00:45:50Both championship rivals winning both the 450 heats.
00:45:54Chase Sexton heat one, Cooper Webb heat two.
00:45:59It's game on here in New Jersey tonight in the main event.
00:46:05And this man here, known for his dogged determination, Cooper Webb.
00:46:09We'll hear from him when we come back.
00:46:10So fun for the fans to get up close and meet the riders, get an autograph, get a picture,
00:46:20get a selfie, whatever it might be.
00:46:22That's the access that Monster Energy Supercross offers.
00:46:26Fans, young, old, whether you're interested in 250 or 450,
00:46:30and there is the crowd favorite, Aaron Plessinger.
00:46:34He ran third in that first run for him tonight as we bring you an Insta360 replay.
00:46:41The teammates from Star Yamaha going at it.
00:46:44Justin Cooper, Cooper Webb.
00:46:45This was some good racing.
00:46:46Yeah, slowly, Coop was making some ground on Justin Cooper.
00:46:51But I'll tell you, Justin Cooper, he really defended that position.
00:46:55And then Justin Cooper, 32, is going to have the preferred line on the inside set up perfectly.
00:47:00But this was a great move by the two of Cooper Webb to stop a little bit early,
00:47:07get set up for that inside 90-degree corner, makes a move.
00:47:10He's going to close Cooper out right here, close the door on him.
00:47:13But Coop's, uh, Jay Coop keeps digging, comes up a little short.
00:47:21Good win for Cooper Webb.
00:47:23Here he is with Will.
00:47:24Thank you, Lee, and Cooper, congratulations.
00:47:26You just got to watch that replay of your pass on your teammate.
00:47:29Clearly, you were here to fight tonight.
00:47:32With four rounds left, where is the will to win?
00:47:35What did you come into this weekend with?
00:47:37Oh, all-time high.
00:47:38You know, I felt great.
00:47:39Like I said, that was a great battle with the teammate.
00:47:41He wasn't letting me go.
00:47:42And, you know, we want that bonus money, baby.
00:47:44So we were going for it.
00:47:46But, yeah, I felt great.
00:47:48Just fell off too early in the first turn.
00:47:49That was my mistake.
00:47:50I kept seeing everybody overshoot it.
00:47:51But, yeah, I had a great start.
00:47:52Just fell off too early.
00:47:53So we'll fix that in the main event.
00:47:54But, yeah, I'm definitely fired up.
00:47:56I feel great today.
00:47:57I want to go out there and win tonight.
00:47:58And I think it's possible.
00:47:59So I want to give it up to the good Lord.
00:48:01I want to give it up to the Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha team,
00:48:04my mechanic, Fly Racing, Alpinestar 100%.
00:48:08My wife, my mechanic, Peanut.
00:48:10And just, yeah, let's do it in the main.
00:48:12See you out there early soon.
00:48:13Cooper Webb is ready to go, guys.
00:48:15He did win the main event here back in 2019.
00:48:19So has good history.
00:48:20So, too, does this guy and this right-of-status
00:48:24Supercross 25, the official game.
00:48:29And we want to revisit something that we flagged with you last week.
00:48:32The final five rounds of a season.
00:48:35Chase Sexton statistically is at his strongest.
00:48:38And he started that last weekend by winning in Philly.
00:48:41Nothing like a dub.
00:48:44He won his heat as well.
00:48:46So we'll see if he can keep that momentum going.
00:48:48Jason?
00:48:48Yes, well, you heard Will in Chase Sexton's heat race
00:48:52mention no changes to the motorcycle today.
00:48:55I want to give you an idea of how in tune with the bikes these riders are.
00:48:59This is where the front suspension connects to the motorcycle right here.
00:49:02They can raise or lower the front of the bike in increments marked in metal here.
00:49:06Those are 2.5-millimeter increments.
00:49:09But for Chase, a 2.5-millimeter change is too big of a change.
00:49:13It would completely ruin his feel.
00:49:14So instead, they have to use calipers and make changes in 1-millimeter increments.
00:49:20He can feel 1-millimeter higher or lower.
00:49:23To give you an idea of how small that is, the width of my pinky nail is 8 millimeters.
00:49:29Chase Sexton can feel a change in his motorcycle 8 times smaller than my fingernail.
00:49:34When the SMX World Championship continues, Justin Brayton takes you around this challenging track inside MetLife Stadium.
00:49:48All right, big triple right here.
00:49:50Later in the show, injured factory Kawasaki racer Jorge Prado joins Ricky and myself in the booth
00:49:56to discuss being back on the bike when he'll return to competition.
00:50:01All that plus the last chance qualifiers and tonight's main event,
00:50:05when Monster Energy Supercross returns here on NBC.
00:50:092.250 heats done, 2.450 heats complete.
00:50:18And that brings us to the SMX Halftime Report.
00:50:21Yes, it goes by in a flash, doesn't it?
00:50:25Well, a week ago in Philly, in much colder conditions,
00:50:28WWE staff, Ron Breaker had just the best time.
00:50:35He couldn't believe what he was seeing at Lincoln Financial Field.
00:50:40He absolutely loved it.
00:50:43Now, Jason Thomas got to talk to him, and he's got a lot on his plate right now
00:50:47because it's here and it's all happening in Vegas.
00:50:50You can watch WWE's biggest superstars brawl at WrestleMania
00:50:54and what could be John Cena's final match on the biggest stage in wrestling.
00:50:58That's tonight and tomorrow at 7 Eastern, only on Peacock.
00:51:04Talking about stars on the big stage,
00:51:07how about our very own Justin Brayton,
00:51:10a veteran of 190 starts in Supercross, a 10-time podium placer.
00:51:15He got to throw the leg over again and take a bike for a ride,
00:51:18and you're going to go for a ride with JB right now.
00:51:23All right, here we go.
00:51:26Lap around East Rutherford.
00:51:28Finish line job.
00:51:29Into a tight 180-degree turn.
00:51:33Back down the star straight.
00:51:35Then a big 180-degree turn right here.
00:51:37Check this out.
00:51:38Look how much space in between that berm and the first loops.
00:51:47Now a set of loops back-to-back here in East Rutherford.
00:51:51Triple into the corner.
00:51:58Then look at this.
00:52:00Biggest rhythm lane maybe we've seen all season.
00:52:05You guys are going to be doing all kinds of different stuff through there.
00:52:10Big triple.
00:52:11A little whip.
00:52:13Tight 180-degree turn.
00:52:15You guys are going double-double.
00:52:17Or triple-single.
00:52:20Last section.
00:52:23Single.
00:52:24Over table.
00:52:26Last turn.
00:52:28There it is.
00:52:30Lap around East Rutherford.
00:52:33Well, Justin Brayton still got it, and I'm standing in that section.
00:52:36You heard him mention one of the biggest rhythm sections of the year.
00:52:39Now, there's two ways riders have been attacking this.
00:52:41One, double-end, and they're going to hit all these ruts that are just in front of me.
00:52:45The second is to triple into this section, and that is saving a lot of time.
00:52:50Now, the ask is going to be, can the 250 riders continue to execute that in the main event as this track starts to deteriorate?
00:52:57And at the end of this rhythm section, on the other side of this skid steer, there's another triple jump.
00:53:03You saw Justin Cooper doing that in the heat race, and you saw Cooper Webb get up the inside of him and make that pass.
00:53:09So watch for that.
00:53:10Can that inside work?
00:53:11Those are the decisions these riders are going to have to make in the main event in one of the toughest rhythm sections of the year.
00:53:18We'll keep an eye on that, JT, for sure.
00:53:21As we bring you up to speed on the chance, Imus, he got pushed all the way to the end.
00:53:26Nate Thrasher, from a brilliant start to an excellent finish.
00:53:30And the two title rivals, Chase Sexton and Cooper Webb, prevailed in their respective heats.
00:53:36It sets up for an awesome afternoon here in New Jersey.
00:53:39The 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship has been one to remember for these fans and for all of us.
00:53:52Because the parity, the sharing of victories has been unprecedented.
00:53:5718 different winners across the 250 and 450 classes.
00:54:01It has been amazing.
00:54:02It also has the attrition rate.
00:54:04It's been brutal.
00:54:05A lot of big stars out.
00:54:06And the 250 East division has had six different winners from seven races.
00:54:10And in the Premier Class, two champions going head-to-head, Cooper Webb and Chase Sexton, for the title of the 450s in 25.
00:54:18Who will win it?
00:54:20Well, it's going to be played out over these remaining rounds.
00:54:23Next week, we finish off this unprecedented run of four successive races in the Northeast.
00:54:29We head to Pittsburgh for the first time in more than 40 years.
00:54:33And then Denver and the season finale in Salt Lake City before everybody switches into outdoor mode for the Pro Motocross Championship.
00:54:42It's all part of the 31 rounds of the SMX, the Super Motocross World Championship.
00:54:48When we come back, a very special guest joins us right here in the booth.
00:54:52Stick around.
00:54:55This has been the U.S. Bank NBC Sports Report.
00:54:58The Super Motocross World Championship is where the world comes to race.
00:55:14Australian Jet Lawrence is the two-time SMX World Champion in the 450 class and one of the leading stars of the SMX League.
00:55:22German-born Ken Rockson has been a fixture in American racing since 2011, along with defending 250 East Division racer Tom Vial of France.
00:55:33He's an example of a racer who came to America after success in MXGP.
00:55:39New Zealand's Cole Davies has won the last two 250 West Division rounds and Japan's Joe Shimoda won the season opening race in Anaheim.
00:55:47English racer Max Anstead led the points until an unfortunate injury sidelined the Yamaha rider.
00:55:56But it's not just the stars who seek the SMX spotlight.
00:56:00Chile's Hardy Munoz and Venezuelan Anthony Rodriguez are established as main event regulars.
00:56:07Frenchman Dylan Ferrandes remains a contender for the Phoenix Honda team.
00:56:11And Sweden's Freddy Norrin is a top 10 regular in the 450 class.
00:56:16Scotland's Dean Wilson has been tapped to fill in at Team Honda HRC for engine stars Jet and Hunter Lawrence.
00:56:24And when the Pro Motocross Championship begins May 24 at Fox Raceway,
00:56:29the Lawrence brothers are expected to return to the starting gate, along with Spanish star Jorge Prado.
00:56:35Prado is in his first season here in America and is expected to contend for the Pro Motocross title.
00:56:41And I'm really pleased to say we don't have to talk about him, we can talk to him.
00:56:49Jorge joins us here in the booth.
00:56:51First full season was on the schedule for this year.
00:56:54Unfortunately, in January, that kind of went a little bit sideways when you injured your shoulder.
00:56:58You had to get surgery.
00:56:59Great to see you back at the track.
00:57:01Tell us how the recovery is going and how you're feeling physically.
00:57:03Yeah, thank you.
00:57:04Nice to be here with you guys.
00:57:07Yeah, I mean, this is my first year racing full-time here in the United States,
00:57:10and I was super excited to get Supergoose going.
00:57:13Functionally, in round three in Anaheim, too, I dislocated my right shoulder.
00:57:17So, I mean, recovery is going good.
00:57:20It takes some time.
00:57:22Shoulder injuries are never easy.
00:57:23But I'm happy to be back on the bike and enjoying the sport again.
00:57:27Speaking about being back on the bike, how was it to be back on the bike?
00:57:31Was it exciting? Did you just take it kind of mellow?
00:57:34What was that like this week?
00:57:36Oh, it's amazing.
00:57:36I love riding so much.
00:57:38So, I was like a little kid, right?
00:57:40I was riding on Tuesday and Wednesday, and I just couldn't stop riding.
00:57:43I just wanted to ride the whole day.
00:57:44So, no, really enjoying my time and step-by-step getting more fit
00:57:48and more healthy for the start of Pro Motorcross.
00:57:51Do you think that you would like these conditions here, what you've seen so far today?
00:57:55I always like, no matter what, conditions.
00:57:57I always want to be racing.
00:57:59So, it doesn't matter how the track is.
00:58:01I want to be out there and, yeah, and experience new stadiums.
00:58:05I only race in Anaheim and San Diego.
00:58:07So, hopefully next year we got to do all the rounds.
00:58:10That's our goal.
00:58:11Yes, we do, because you continue to build your fan base here in the United States.
00:58:15And, folks, as you know, all season long, you can tune in to the Spanish broadcast
00:58:19on the Telemundo page of the NBC app and on the Telemundo YouTube channel
00:58:24where you can join Edgar and Tommy straight through the Super Motocross finals.
00:58:29Well, speaking of Edgar and Tommy, how about we join them right now?
00:58:35And, Edgar, I want to start with you first.
00:58:37This is the second year of the Spanish channel option, and it's gone phenomenally well.
00:58:41What kind of growth have you seen?
00:58:44Tremendously.
00:58:45The growth has been amazing.
00:58:47Every week the numbers keep going up, and this is because the fans who follow the sport
00:58:51are finding a channel to listen to their races and watch their icons, their pilots,
00:58:58their competitors, like Jorge Prado in this case.
00:59:01So, no doubt about it.
00:59:02This is getting bigger.
00:59:03It's going to continue to get bigger.
00:59:04And now having Jorge Prado part of the competition is going to make it even better.
00:59:10No, how could they not be excited, Edgar, especially after the championship
00:59:12that we have seen in Supercross this year?
00:59:15And I have to say I love what I'm seeing from Chase Sexton tonight with the track,
00:59:19the big rhythms, the drier conditions.
00:59:21Man, it's going to be really hard to stop with a good start.
00:59:25Well, congratulations.
00:59:27Great work.
00:59:29Continue what you've been doing.
00:59:30And right now we're going to have a special little treat because Jorge is going to stick
00:59:34around and call the opening segment of this 250 last chance qualifier with you guys.
00:59:39How does that sound?
00:59:40Fantastic.
00:59:41Looking forward to it.
00:59:42Un placer.
00:59:43Que bueno que tenemos a Jorge Prado.
00:59:47All right.
00:59:48We will turn it over to you guys.
00:59:49Take it away.
00:59:50Bueno.
00:59:51Muchas gracias.
00:59:52Thank you very much.
01:01:18Tomi, Edgar, thank you so much.
01:01:22We'll let you go and we'll bring it back here on NBC.
01:01:25Jorge's going to stick around and enjoy this 250 last chance qualifier.
01:01:33Isaiah Clark, you may remember, in his heat race had that collision with Cullen Park and
01:01:39that's what took him out of contention to go straight through and transfer.
01:01:43Henry Miller, you see there on the 55.
01:01:45Henry had that huge crash where he went under the net and over behind the berms.
01:01:49So, a couple of guys on a big comeback path here.
01:01:51Great to see him back out.
01:01:53But Jorge, before we went live, you were talking about how the SMX track crew was watering the
01:01:58track and what it would do to those conditions.
01:02:01Tell us what putting water down would have done and how it changes the track.
01:02:06Yeah, well, I think that the track crew did a great job putting some water on track.
01:02:09We need to keep the track dialed for the next races.
01:02:12But, obviously, for these guys, it's a little bit greasy.
01:02:15You've got to be careful, especially in those initial laps where you still have the water
01:02:18on top and be very cautious of coming to the corners, not opening the trail too aggressive.
01:02:24So, it's also cool to see the guys adapting to the track.
01:02:28You've got to be super quick.
01:02:30And, yeah, these guys are pushing it.
01:02:31I mean, it's the LCQ.
01:02:32You try to find a spot for the main event.
01:02:34So, it's challenging.
01:02:37Especially these 90-degree corners right here, right, Jorge?
01:02:41I mean, when they're watering it, you're trying to lean the bike as much as possible
01:02:44to make sure you get the right apex.
01:02:48And then it can be slick.
01:02:49Yeah, for sure.
01:02:50We see those 90-degree corners.
01:02:52And they don't really have like a rut or really a berm where you can put that front tire
01:02:56and trust the front end.
01:02:57So, you've got to be careful.
01:02:59And a smooth throttle control is super important in these conditions.
01:03:03You don't want to rush it, but keep the flow, right?
01:03:05Yep.
01:03:06Henry Miller leads the way on that Storm Lake Honda.
01:03:10He's 10th in the championship points at the moment.
01:03:12So, super important to make this main event.
01:03:15And 10th, interestingly enough, is his best result of the season.
01:03:18Isaiah Clark, then Lane Shaw, who made that spectacular start.
01:03:22And then Bryce Shelley aboard the 97 sits forth,
01:03:25looking for his third career main.
01:03:35This is what happened to Bryce Shelley in the heat.
01:03:38You may remember from a little earlier, right on the line.
01:03:42Jorge, check this out.
01:03:44This was a battle.
01:03:46Yep, I just watched this on my phone before getting in here.
01:03:50That was pretty sick.
01:03:51You know, these guys are giving everything until the finish line.
01:03:53The race is not over until you cross that line.
01:03:55So, yep, props to the guy that got it straight to the main event.
01:04:00That's right.
01:04:00Did you ever have to race a Lashman's qualifier?
01:04:03I actually had to race one this year in San Diego.
01:04:08I had a little crash, and then I couldn't make it to the main straight.
01:04:11So, I had to race that L.C.Q.
01:04:13And, I mean, for me, it was good.
01:04:15I could have some extra time on track and try to flow a little bit better
01:04:20and be still warm for the main event.
01:04:22So, for me, it wasn't too bad.
01:04:23But it's obviously not the perfect situation, as you don't have a good gate pick.
01:04:26So, as a title contender, you don't want to go in the L.C.Q., right?
01:04:30No.
01:04:30But I can see what you're saying from your point of view.
01:04:33Being on a new bike on the Monster Energy Kawasaki team
01:04:36and needing more experience in Supercross, yeah,
01:04:39you kind of turned, like, a negative into a positive.
01:04:41Yeah, exactly.
01:04:42So, for me, it was not too bad.
01:04:44It was not a perfect scenario.
01:04:46But, you know, I took the positives, and that was a little bit extra time on track.
01:04:50And, yeah, it worked decent for me.
01:04:54I like these 90-degree corners and how they're a little bit slippery
01:04:57and how you have to be very careful and how far you lean the bike over
01:05:01and what the bike is doing
01:05:03because I think you can make up a lot of time if you're really in tune
01:05:07with the traction you get or don't get.
01:05:09Do you like those 90s like that?
01:05:11Well, to be honest, I didn't experience too many 90s racing Supercross.
01:05:15because I only raced the first three rounds.
01:05:17Yeah.
01:05:18So, but I guess you need that throttle control, right?
01:05:21And today the dirt looks a little bit slippery,
01:05:24so it's even more important, body positioning
01:05:28and understanding where the tires are in the corners.
01:05:32So that's important.
01:05:34We also see these, I like this Ride Hunter after the triple.
01:05:37I think it will have some different options for the main event.
01:05:42Yeah, I think the track layout this weekend is pretty cool.
01:05:44You're listening to Monster NG Kawasaki's Jorge Prado.
01:05:48One lap to go for Henry Miller, the 27-year-old from Minnesota
01:05:52who unfortunately, he finished fifth at Indianapolis in the LCQ
01:05:59and he didn't go through to the main.
01:06:00That was a tough memory,
01:06:01but Henry's coming back from a fall in the heat
01:06:04and leads, and leads really well, RC, by 3.2 seconds.
01:06:08Yeah, and if you're the, but if you're these two guys,
01:06:10you're Lane Shaw and Bryce Shelley, man,
01:06:12you just got to get it into the main event right here.
01:06:16You got about a half a lap to go.
01:06:19No need to push it.
01:06:21And just keep it clean and get to that checkered flag.
01:06:24Yeah, Hamden Hudson's just a couple of seconds back,
01:06:27so no immediate pressure on this final lap for these two.
01:06:32Big rhythm lanes right here,
01:06:33and they were a bit steeper earlier today
01:06:36in qualifying practice along with the whoops,
01:06:38and as the SMX track crew have continued to work on it,
01:06:42they've gotten a little softer and a little bit more round.
01:06:45Yeah, exactly.
01:06:46I was watching yesterday a bit of press day,
01:06:48and that rhythm on the left side of the stadium
01:06:51looked pretty gnarly.
01:06:53Yeah.
01:06:53Pretty steep, so there it goes.
01:06:56Lane Shaw, thrilled to follow Henry Miller and Isaiah Clark home.
01:07:01He's pumped to go through to the main,
01:07:03and so too Bryce Shelley.
01:07:05Well done, Henry Miller.
01:07:06Hey, Jorge, can you stick around for the 450LC?
01:07:08Let's do it.
01:07:09Let's do it.
01:07:10Yeah.
01:07:13Well, living here in the northeast myself,
01:07:15I can tell you we've been waiting for an afternoon like this
01:07:17for quite some time.
01:07:19This winter has just dragged on into spring,
01:07:22and to have an 82-degree afternoon,
01:07:24this is beautiful here in MetLife Stadium
01:07:27in East Rutherford, New Jersey,
01:07:29and a quick reminder that the motocross of nations
01:07:32is coming to the United States.
01:07:34Yes, happening later this year in Indiana at Ironman.
01:07:38Ricky, Jorge, you know what the spirit of the motocross of nations
01:07:43is all about, how difficult it is,
01:07:45how excited are you to see it come to the U.S.?
01:07:48Well, I mean, being an American, I think it's incredible,
01:07:51and at a place like Ironman, that place is unbelievable,
01:07:54and just to be able to go to MX of nations,
01:07:57the event is incredible, to race for your own country.
01:08:01That is special, Jorge.
01:08:02You've done it several times, and it's a special event.
01:08:05Yeah, I think it's always special to race for your country,
01:08:07and this year racing in the U.S. will be super cool.
01:08:10We race in 2018 and 2022 in RedBot,
01:08:14and it's for sure it's something special to race motocross of nations
01:08:18in the United States.
01:08:19Yeah, very, very special,
01:08:20and it's an honor to have that privilege.
01:08:24It's going to be a race that you're definitely going to want to go to.
01:08:26If you're just joining us,
01:08:27Lee Diffie along with the GOAT, Ricky Carmichael,
01:08:29and our special guest, Kawasaki star Jorge Prado,
01:08:33still on the recovery road
01:08:35after his shoulder surgery from earlier in the year
01:08:38after a crash in Anaheim,
01:08:40but he will be back for the outdoor season,
01:08:41for the pro motocross season,
01:08:43and he's going to stick around
01:08:44and call this 450 last chance qualifier with us.
01:08:48Top four go through to the main event.
01:08:51Let's see who gets the best start.
01:08:56Mitchell Harrison's in the mix.
01:08:58He sure is, out in front.
01:09:01Harrison almost tucked his front end,
01:09:04and that right-hander
01:09:04again, the SMX track crew
01:09:07watering in between some of these races
01:09:09just to keep the moisture in the track
01:09:12like Jorge was talking about.
01:09:14Otherwise, it will get extremely dusty, dry, and slick,
01:09:17trying to keep pristine conditions.
01:09:20Yeah, we see again some of the riders
01:09:22just trying a little bit with this opening lap,
01:09:25this tricky condition, right?
01:09:27It's slippery, and it's not easy.
01:09:29No, and they're trying to go as fast as they can
01:09:32because last chance qualifier, it's it.
01:09:34It'll transfer here, it's game over.
01:09:37You want to make
01:09:38and most of the passes in the opening laps.
01:09:41That's where everybody's together,
01:09:42and it's the easiest.
01:09:44So, yeah, you're dealing with a difficult dragon
01:09:46at the same time.
01:09:47You just try to make passes.
01:09:49Whoa!
01:09:49That was a nice move from Jeremy Hand
01:09:51as he went around the outside of Tristan Lane.
01:09:54Tristan fought back,
01:09:55but Jeremy's hanging on to that position for now.
01:09:59Tristan Lane fight back, so he's on this inside.
01:10:02He's going to be perfect.
01:10:03Does he defend the inside spot?
01:10:06No, Jeremy Hand tries to come back underneath him.
01:10:09Great riding by these guys,
01:10:11like what Jorge was saying
01:10:13of how slick those 90-degree corners are.
01:10:15Keep an eye on the background, too.
01:10:21In blue and white, Grant Harlan aboard that 43.
01:10:24There's Grant.
01:10:25He holds on to that fourth and final transfer position,
01:10:28but Cade Clayson is right with him.
01:10:32Cade coming back from an injury.
01:10:35Been back now for a couple weeks,
01:10:36and he got injured back in Tampa earlier on
01:10:39in the season.
01:10:48Has to think about it.
01:10:49Lunges on the inside at Grant Harlan.
01:10:52Grant Hanks tough for now.
01:10:53Mitchell Harrison leads by almost two seconds.
01:11:01It's so tough, these last chance qualifiers,
01:11:04because you don't want to make a mistake.
01:11:05But at the same time,
01:11:07you have to maintain a fast pace, JT,
01:11:09and what you got.
01:11:11He took the words right out of my mouth.
01:11:13Ricky, he's in such a tough position here
01:11:15because he has to ride defensive.
01:11:17He has to be aware of Cade Clayson's
01:11:19going to try to make the move,
01:11:20but he also has to try to keep his lap times low
01:11:22so he doesn't get swallowed up by the guys behind him.
01:11:25And unfortunately for Grant Harlan,
01:11:26he has been in so many of these LCQs this year.
01:11:30Now he's won some,
01:11:31and he's also been on the losing end of some
01:11:32thinking about Seattle.
01:11:33So let's see if he's learned anything
01:11:35and found a way to get into this main event.
01:11:37This Tristan Lane, Jeremy Hand battle
01:11:39is far from over.
01:11:402.10 left on the clock,
01:11:41plus a lap.
01:11:42Grant Harlan, then Cade Clayson.
01:11:45Kevin Morantz is just a couple of seconds
01:11:48off that as well.
01:11:49See what Kevin can do in these closing laps.
01:11:53Meanwhile, up front, Mitchell Harrison,
01:11:55who's doing a super job,
01:11:56is coming off his equal best result of the season.
01:11:59making the main,
01:12:01finishing 16th in Philadelphia.
01:12:03He's done that several times throughout this season
01:12:05aboard his Partzilla Kawasaki.
01:12:09And while Mitchell continues to lead and lead well,
01:12:11let's check in with Weege.
01:12:12Jason Wigand, where do we find you, mate?
01:12:14Yeah, thanks, Lee.
01:12:15In the pit with Henry Miller,
01:12:17who just won that 250 last chance qualifier.
01:12:19I want to show you the measures they have to do
01:12:21for a privateer racer to compete at the highest level.
01:12:25I'll show you what's inside his suspension.
01:12:27If you were to buy a motorcycle,
01:12:29it would look like this.
01:12:30These are called travel control valves.
01:12:32They have huge holes,
01:12:33which allow a lot of oil to move through the front suspension
01:12:35for a smooth ride.
01:12:37But a fast rider would bottom out.
01:12:39It'd feel like riding over a speed bump
01:12:41in the parking lot instantly.
01:12:42That's not what you want,
01:12:43taking off from a 70-foot jump.
01:12:45A pro expert level rider on a motocross track
01:12:48would have holes this big,
01:12:50significantly smaller.
01:12:52But for Supercross,
01:12:53they switch to these.
01:12:56Look at the difference between a motorcycle you would buy
01:12:58and what a professional Supercross rider has
01:13:01on the racetrack.
01:13:02Stiff ride,
01:13:03but that's what they need for control.
01:13:05Otherwise, they can't do these jumps.
01:13:09Fantastic explanation there.
01:13:11Pit Report by Wygant.
01:13:14It was even good for me.
01:13:16I didn't even know about that.
01:13:17There you go.
01:13:18You learn every day something new.
01:13:20It's good.
01:13:22Hey, Jorge,
01:13:23while we watched Kawasaki rider out in front of Mitchell Harrison,
01:13:26unfortunately,
01:13:27your teammate this year,
01:13:28Jason Anderson,
01:13:29had to not finish.
01:13:31He was sitting on the sideline.
01:13:32He won't finish the Supercross season
01:13:33as we sit here right now.
01:13:35So therefore,
01:13:36you look elsewhere for other riders in green.
01:13:38What do you make of 250 star
01:13:40and co-championship leader Seth Hamaker?
01:13:42Oh, yeah.
01:13:43I mean,
01:13:44Seth's riding super good.
01:13:46It's,
01:13:46you know,
01:13:47I've been watching the races
01:13:48and he's very smooth.
01:13:50Like,
01:13:50he's just putting everything together
01:13:52and he's flowing.
01:13:54We could see in the heat race,
01:13:55he had a great pace.
01:13:57This morning,
01:13:57he was hitting big rhythms
01:13:59and he had a great lap in the qualifying.
01:14:00So,
01:14:01I feel like he has his confidence level high
01:14:04and he can do good tonight.
01:14:05I mean,
01:14:06the championship is tied
01:14:07and hopefully,
01:14:08the Kawasaki is up front
01:14:10in the main event.
01:14:13Mitchell Harrison's keeping the green up front here for sure.
01:14:16He won the LCQ in Birmingham earlier this year
01:14:19and certainly en route
01:14:21on this final lap
01:14:22to go through to the main again.
01:14:24He's had a pretty good transfer ratio
01:14:26of when he's been in the LCQ
01:14:29of making it to the main
01:14:30more than 50% of the time.
01:14:32So,
01:14:33keeping that going here
01:14:34in New Jersey this afternoon.
01:14:38Grant Harlan has been able
01:14:39to withstand the pressure
01:14:40from Kate Clayson
01:14:42and just eke out a bit more
01:14:43of an advantage there
01:14:44and things have stabilized Ricky
01:14:46between Tristan Lane
01:14:47and Jeremy Hand as well.
01:14:49Yeah,
01:14:50getting down to the wire here.
01:14:52Two more corners
01:14:54for Harrison
01:14:55and he's going to get it
01:14:56locked in.
01:14:57Tristan Lane there
01:14:58and not as many fireworks
01:15:01as what we normally see
01:15:02but
01:15:02a terrific start
01:15:04and a great ride
01:15:05by Mitchell Harrison
01:15:06aboard his part Zilla Kawasaki
01:15:08to win.
01:15:09Tristan Lane,
01:15:09Jeremy Hand
01:15:10and Grant Harlan.
01:15:11They're the four
01:15:11that we will see
01:15:13in the 450 main event.
01:15:15Jorge,
01:15:16thanks so much.
01:15:17Congrats on the recovery.
01:15:18We look forward to seeing
01:15:19the Pro Motocross Championship.
01:15:20Thank you so much.
01:15:21Thank you for having me here.
01:15:23It's a cool experience
01:15:24being with you guys.
01:15:25You make it easier
01:15:26for me to be around
01:15:27as you do your job very well.
01:15:29So,
01:15:29no,
01:15:30thank you for having me.
01:15:31It is.
01:15:31It's terrific to have you
01:15:33as part of the SMX
01:15:34World Championship.
01:15:38You were just listening
01:15:39to Jorge Prado.
01:15:40You're now listening
01:15:41to Ghost Towns
01:15:42and lead singer
01:15:43Savant.
01:15:44He sang the national anthem
01:15:46a little earlier tonight
01:15:47to a rousing round of applause.
01:15:49Ghost Towns
01:15:49will be performing
01:15:50a set next weekend
01:15:51in the Fan Fest.
01:15:53And this is

01:16:11at MetLife Stadium.
01:16:14Pretty cool.
01:16:15Hearing the voices
01:16:16of our very own
01:16:16Jason Wygan
01:16:17and Ricky Carmichael.
01:16:19Fun doing that for you?
01:16:20That was a lot of fun
01:16:21and it's crazy
01:16:23to think
01:16:23how good
01:16:24they can integrate it
01:16:25and we weren't even
01:16:26yeah it was fun
01:16:27a lot of fun
01:16:28a lot of work
01:16:29I can tell you that.
01:16:31We know that many
01:16:31join at different times
01:16:33so let's show you
01:16:33some heat highlights
01:16:36and that was
01:16:38a really close call
01:16:40early in the first
01:16:41heat chance
01:16:42that was RJ Hamshire
01:16:44kind of pushing
01:16:44his way through.
01:16:45Austin Faulkner
01:16:46had this scary moment.
01:16:48Wow that was
01:16:48a major get off
01:16:50could have been
01:16:50a lot worse
01:16:51and he's able
01:16:53to remount though
01:16:54ends up fourth.
01:16:56He's riding
01:16:56with a lot of speed
01:16:57here today
01:16:58best I've seen
01:16:59from him
01:16:59all season long.
01:17:01Boy it got close
01:17:01at the end
01:17:02Chance Hymers
01:17:03just held off
01:17:04the West Division
01:17:05champ from last year
01:17:07and championship
01:17:08leader this year
01:17:08RJ Hamshire
01:17:09in the second
01:17:10boy Nate Thrasher
01:17:12just rocketed
01:17:13out of the gate.
01:17:13Well he did
01:17:14and he put on
01:17:15a fantastic performance
01:17:16he had a lot of speed
01:17:17in the whoops
01:17:18early on the day
01:17:18qualifying practice
01:17:19but check this collision
01:17:20out and that's
01:17:22the crazy thing
01:17:23about Supercross
01:17:24if one guy
01:17:25has a mistake
01:17:25through the rhythm
01:17:26section
01:17:27and the person
01:17:28behind him
01:17:28is committed
01:17:29that's what happens.
01:17:31Henry Miller
01:17:31went off the track
01:17:33he came back
01:17:34to do well
01:17:35in the last chance
01:17:35qualifier
01:17:36Nate Thrasher
01:17:37won
01:17:37Chandler Baker
01:17:38makes an inside
01:17:39move here
01:17:40on Bryce Shelley
01:17:41and that was
01:17:42for the final
01:17:42transfer position
01:17:44right on
01:17:45the line.
01:17:46so action
01:17:47all the way
01:17:48through
01:17:48both
01:17:49250 heats
01:17:50to give it
01:17:51this full field
01:18:06of 22
01:18:06for the
01:18:07250 main
01:18:08here in
01:18:10East Rutherford
01:18:11so much going on
01:18:12everywhere
01:18:12and Jason Wygant's
01:18:14right in the middle
01:18:14of it.
01:18:15yeah thank you Lee
01:18:16you saw Seth Hamaker
01:18:17on that graphic
01:18:18as the fastest
01:18:19qualifier today
01:18:20I want to show you
01:18:20the athleticism
01:18:21and coordination
01:18:22it takes
01:18:22to go that fast
01:18:23in Supercross
01:18:24I have his boot
01:18:25and one of his
01:18:26teammates bikes
01:18:27to demonstrate
01:18:27a very advanced
01:18:28technique
01:18:29he's using today
01:18:30now when the riders
01:18:31are racing
01:18:31they want their foot
01:18:32here on the peg
01:18:33the ball of their foot
01:18:34it allows them to flex
01:18:35their ankle
01:18:35and calves
01:18:36to get maximum
01:18:37control and leverage
01:18:38over the bike
01:18:39but they have to use
01:18:40this lever
01:18:40to shift gears
01:18:41it's a five speed
01:18:42transmission
01:18:43Seth said
01:18:44he'll come out
01:18:44of a turn
01:18:45before the whoops
01:18:45in third
01:18:46he'll grab fourth
01:18:47and then when he hits
01:18:49the first bump
01:18:50in the whoops
01:18:50the starter whoop
01:18:51the bike will
01:18:52momentarily be airborne
01:18:53he will grab fifth gear
01:18:54and then instantly
01:18:55has to get his foot
01:18:56back on the peg
01:18:57within a fraction
01:18:58of a second
01:18:58to regain control
01:19:00if he miss shifts
01:19:01he'll go down
01:19:02if he doesn't get
01:19:03his foot back
01:19:03on the peg
01:19:04he'll go down
01:19:05I asked Tom Vial's team
01:19:06if he was using fifth
01:19:07they said
01:19:09I don't know
01:19:09if he's ready for that
01:19:10but in Supercross
01:19:11the difference
01:19:12between fast
01:19:12and crash
01:19:13is literally
01:19:14that big
01:19:16yeah
01:19:17just
01:19:17when the SMX
01:19:20World Championship
01:19:21returns
